RE: Diversity Representation in MU*ing

Also on the topic of banning races for there being "too much" of them, can we talk about how so many MUSHes have treated Asian culture like a weird trend that they have to ban or restrict? Like yeah, I get that there's people who do unfortunately bad portrayals of shit, but I can't be the only one who has seen MUSHes literally put Asian characters on a restricted list.
I don't ban asian characters, or restrict them (save in like, a rare few fantasy settings where they literally are on another continent and I'm planning a First Contact type situation later).
What I will ban the fuck out of is your anime samurai ninja master dragon lady concept that just so happens to be east asian because that shit usually goes well outside the theme of what I want to run.
Few people seem to be able to differentiate between the two, however. I didn't restrict your asian character, I restricted your weird-ass concept that happens to have asian stereotype culture tags just slapped on it.
#SorryNotSorry
Also, not you you as in @HelloProject, the general, nebulous you that refers to no one in particular.

Disturbingly, while I've seen it more often with hetero couples, if the couple is homosexual they will more likely be female.
The female couple is more likely to be accepted and/or encouraged than the male equivalent. Just saying.

RE: Ideas you got from works of fiction
@BroadStreetBully said in Ideas you got from works of fiction:
@Derp I mean to a degree aren't all of the World of Darkness games supposed to be like this? In Vampire you play a blood guzzling cannibal, in Werewolf you play a spirit-addled lunatic with violent anger issues, and in Mage you play someone who took too many red pills and is consequently a psychopathic megalomaniac, yet in all of these you have compelling reasons to be this way and aren't just Pure Evil (tm)
That's the idea but you aren't ever allowed to play that. If you play the lying seductive vampire you're being a sex-pest predator, if you play the rage-filled werewolf you're being a dick bully, and if you play the mage who can bend the world to his literal will then you're being a powergaming jackass. Doesn't matter that it's all baked into theme. This is MU and you have to be nice and cooperative, dammit.

We may not win but now some poor bastard has to do what I did last year.

I dunno how to reply to those without spoilers, so. I suggest just keep an open mind? It really starts to weave intk the last game's story and all of the characters have their own compelling motivations.

RE: The Art of Lawyering
@Ganymede said in The Art of Lawyering:
Suppose there is a clear precedent that requires three operative facts. Suppose there is sufficient evidence to establish all three, but there is evidence to the contrary. This is what a jury shall decide: what the facts are.
And if they fit the mold, the case is made.At which point it will winds its way up through the various courts of appeals until it gets to the Supreme Court, who will probably overturn it. Despite paying lip service to the idea that a set of facts doesn't need to match exactly a prior set in a decision, they will overturn decisions for petty differences, and do. All the time.
So it can make it to a jury but fat lot of good that will do you in the end, really.

I looked up Lawyers got this, so necro thread.
Soda company poisons the water table somewhere.
Bob the water manager was "in charge" of this aspect of the company.
Can Bob be sued for damages? or is this a case of doing my job, I didn't know and knock it up to the company level?
Is Soda company sued for damages just because they have bigger pockets?
I mean, based on that, I would agree with @Ganymede for the most part, but I would also add (and IANAL, remember, I just work for them and do the research):
"It depends" is pretty much always the answer to these questions. Were water manager's actions intentional, or at least reckless? Did the company present him with sufficient information in order to ensure the safety of the water? Were all items properly marked as to show their contents?
Those types of cases are always really dependent on nitty gritty facts, so you need the nitty gritty facts in order to make a proper determination (or at least, projection). Without knowing all the contours of how it went down and who knew about about it and when, it's hard to say, because there are defenses that can be made based on a whole slew of information.
They can both be sued, but whether you're successful or not is an entirely different story.
