Prince, Bowie, Carrie Fisher..these people were icons for a lot more than their professional work. And Rickman! It's that they were all too young, it seemed. Like yeah it's sad when an 80 year old actor we love dies, but come on. I was not ready to lose Prince.
@Pandora It's a good thread, and a good thing to have a discussion about. I wish we could get a group of people who are not comfortable telling others "please don't do this/contact me/whatever boundary" and see what they would feel comfortable doing, because that's my hurdle.
Isn't any coded tool you give them to use in the moment, in scene/conversation essentially the same as saying 'hey could we not'? If the aversion is fear or wariness of conflict or insulting the other party, would throwing a card on the scene not trigger the same anxiety?

Agree, a lot. That's a lot of the reasoning behind the way we do things on Arx. Even though there's a lot of code and thus a big learning curve, we very much try to keep the power of policing players out of player hands, because when games are like that there's a lot of low level snobbery and impatient correction that are VERY unwelcoming to new people.
@Jeshin Some people don't feel comfortable lying. Some games will go ahead and do the thing to your character while you are offline.

I agree that there's plenty of shitty demographic stuff on games (the ageism thing is a bitch) and it shocks me that it's been this way forever. Also, "athletic with curves" should be banned from all descs.

I used to do things like go through char pages/galleries/ item / retainer lists every so often, and weed out the unthematic ones. but i don't and other staffers probably have more productive ways to spend their time, so you gotta point it out.
idk. I have played sever black people and many non white people and never had anything approaching a shitstorm, or even a heckle. Experiences differ.

Oh my god, this is the worst. I get so squicked out at the "you". I also get squicked out at any ooc chit chat like "Dang, this is hot :)". Yeah, good writing is great, but why would you make me think about the player behind the keys instead of the characters? Way too intimate, and I don't rp to get intimate with people.

Unsolicited but firm advice: do what you would do IC, and let us worry if anything weird crops up OOC. There is no reason to be borrowing trouble when there is none. I repeat, we aren't going to let anyone be a creeper, a cheater, or an OOC bully. Period. There is no player that I have ever seen or heard of that is going to be allowed to 'kill' Arx. I mean, I guess if a literal Moriarty with incredible network skills decided to take us down we'd be fucked, but beyond that?
