    • RE: FCs on Comic MUs

2 alts seems good. You still get some camping, but you just have to be willing to monitor it in SOME way and reach out. We do it on Arx, by counting poses done in a room with other characters. We don't have one set cutoff, we just kind of look at it like, if you had 0 poses the last two weeks, and only 20 the two weeks before that, I don't really call that very active on a roster character. Maybe make an OC, which has no activity requirement, and go from there. I suggest that, see if they want to talk about it, can be more active, etc.

I also think Apos is super right about the type of game environment you create (not shocking, I mean we obviously staff a game together). I think it's important for people to openly have the impression that being shitty, snarky, or mean towards other players is not ok, and I wade into many ooc channels to enforce that on a daily basis.

it's not fun. I get accused of attacking people, paying favorites, 'punishing' people, and trying to run a game WITHOUT FREE SPEECH, etc etc. You can't be conflict averse AND create the game environment you want, if you want any sort of standard of behaviour. You just can't, ESPECIALLY if you have some players in coveted positions/characters that others want.

Or you could maybe disallow all OOC communication, like an RPI?

    • RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?

Also, if you want to play an IC bigot, you should really not be taking it personally when other characters confront or disagree with yours. I believe you should probably not be rping about anything that has you upset OOC, but this is just common sense.

If you are going to do a thing IC, don't take it as an OOC insult or problem when other people have their characters react with IC distaste or disapproval.

Bob and Brad - daily uploads, physical therapy questions, tests, exercises, just search your problem or even the body part. This channel helped me identify the issue with my shoulders/arms and showed me stretches to fix it. It's helped other people I know, too - and that jingle. Super nerds.

Girlfriend Reviews funny game reviews from the perspective of the girlfriend of the person playing them. This is my rec for the "funny gamez content" category - runners up being Thorhighheels and Nakeyjakey.

exurb1a - hey, are you ok? No matter the answer, this channel's philosophical videos are very good.

kurzgezagt - do you like to be knowed sciencey things through animation?

Jenna Marbles - it's Jenna fucking Marbles, professional gamer and wholesome mom of youtube. (she's a 33 year old lady)

Contrapoints - trans issues, alt right extremism, social commentary - her brand of humor and philosophy and socratic dialogue is smart and generally full of compassion.

(also omg yes Unraveled. BDG is a treasure)

@Rinel I am a firm believer in the right pose at the right time. Sometimes you need two paragraphs. Sometimes, one line for impact is definitely the way to go.

    • RE: @Arx: Anonymous Messengers (Answered)

The reason condemn went away is because people are really keen on letting female leaders know when they don't agree, way more than they are male leaders. IE, a male leader voted to pay the teind and got like 10 disses, and Dawn also suggested paying it (but abstained from the actual vote iirc? doesn't really matter) and got like 40+. Per week. For over a month.

So until people can straighten up and act like they have some sense, probably no condemns.

    • RE: How To Treat Your Players Right

wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where reaching out to a player to say "Hey we heard you are being a dick. Knock it off" was ever that clear cut and simple?

If you don't see logs of conversations, or have corroborated accounts, you are walking in blind. More than once i've gone at someone with hey you are making people uncomfortable with x,y,z please stop and gotten:

      1. but so and so (the person being championed by whoever reported) is my friend and we are just like that/they don't mind
      2. weird, because i have asked X if they are ok with this and they said they were and never pointed out they wanted me to stop
      3. what?

Unless you see a clear cut behavior that is not acceptable, you have to realize there are at least 3 sides to every story. At least.

How many people would any of us trust to take "RPing out sex" to be wholly IC?

      YIKES

I always assume, default, that sex being RPd out is wholly IC. On the rare occasions I have done sexy rp and suddenly felt like ...oh, this is probably a kink this player is keen to play, I have felt massively uncomfortable and that was the end of that.

@Sunny said in Difference between an NPC and a Staff PC?:

I am actually really skeeved that TSing someone is being equated out to having an actual sexual relationship with them.

Wonder if it's the same guy I'm still having problems with on CoS.

Does he send you PMs that are probably meant to be sinister but just reiterate that your decision to ban this dude was the right one?

(Or, really, it's @ZombieKerouac, if that helps.)

He logged on to Arx and asked how we were, it was nice. Not sure Apos got around to answering him, but if he reads here: the game is totally still run by cunt rags and they are doing really well, thanks for asking!

    • RE: Diversity Representation in MU*ing

@Waller said in Diversity Representation in MU*ing:

One of the many issues in diversity in MU*ing is the setting.

      Here's a WoD/CoD example:

Yes, there are Black people in New England, but when every single game is set in Small New England Town, New England State, it is a reach to figure out why my Black Vampire/Mage/Changeling/Werewolf is in this area. Everyone has to come up with reasons, and I have. But knowing that realistically my character would, at the very least, stick out in a crowd, makes upholding that IC Masquerade difficult in Small New England Town.

Sure, put your game in a place that you want. But when you look at the character roster and it looks like the campus of BYU...maybe it's your setting.

Here's what gets me about this: those small New England towns will have a ridiculously disproportionate number of strip clubs, opera houses, billionaires, east asian people, etc etc. So the realism is blown from the start - there are vampires and werewolves. The plausibility is blown by what I just mentioned. There's no town of 10,000 in the entire US with like, fifteen bars and strip clubs and bookstores and boutique shopping centers.

@egg blue eyes are coveted because they are rare. Just like being 'the tallest' is coveted because it is rare (and generally accepted to be attractive, most people don't covet rare things that are NOT.)

@tinuviel said in A healthy game culture:

"The game brings out the worst in people" is inaccurate at best and an excuse at worst.

or it's just truthy. It's not even a statement that invites or allows quantification. You can SAY it's inaccurate, but by what measure? It's an opinion, and your opinion that it's an excuse is an opinion, and at the end of the day sometimes you should just let people talk about things to attempt communication and connection.

or pick apart things according to standards that don't exist, whatever.

@devrex said in GMs and Players:

@saosmash That is not what @derp has been saying at all. He said "use the in-game tools which are almost impossible to forge," and "we will patrol this place by this standard" and no more. Not leaping all over someone just because someone said so is not championing the abuser.

Nothing exists in a vacuum. Derp has a demonstrated history of pointing out victims often make false reports, and sung this 'logs are so easily forged' tune. Not going to go looking but I'm pretty sure he's also claimed reports of sexual harassment are overblown because he doesn't see it happening much.

    • RE: The Shame Game

In reality, shaming is very effective at what it CAN accomplish - which is setting the standards by which communities ostracize people. Shaming a girl who likes dick probably won't make her stop liking dick, but it will encourage everyone around her to join in on the shaming and exclude her from reindeer games, job promotions, and not being burned at the stake.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

A +meetme (with some caveats) is likely. The OOC room suggestion is prooobably a hard no. All I can speak to is my own experience, but of all the (four?) wod mushes I dipped my toe into, there was just 0 organic, random RP to be had. Also the OOC rooms were horrible and headache-inducing.

But, every character in Arx is assigned a home room, a private space in which they can idle and chat and watch paint dry as they like.
