    • RE: Period Piece Face vs Modern Face

We aren't discussing, we are CATEGORIZING. Ok I'll show a celebrity and you can pick: Modern Face or Period Piece Face.

    • Period Piece Face vs Modern Face

Stole this from Go Fug Yourself (<3) because the girls labeled like five actors and I wanted them to do ALL OF HOLLYWOOD.

You know how some people just look great in period pieces? And some people look jarringly modern?
Reese Witherspoon, for instance, has a super modern face.
Halle Berry has a super modern face.
      Julie Roberts, super modern.
Elizabeth Olsen has period piece face, but her sisters, le olsen twins? Modern, all the way.
Emma Stone does NOT have Period Piece Face but you think she does until you really consider it.
Jake Gyllenhaal does not have Period Piece Face UNLESS he has his beard; Maggie has raging Period Piece Face regardless.
      Drew Barrymore has Modern Face.
Matthew McConaughey has Period Piece Face but it’s kind of a surprise once you realize it.
Naomie Harris has Period Piece Face.

What are some PBs people use that just don't belong in a modern (or futuristic) setting, and which just don't belong in 'period' games?

For instance, two faves: Jensen Ackles and Chris Hemsworth? TOTALLY MODERN FACE. STOP IT.

So... people were upset that she wasn't being clear when she was being a moderator and when she was being a poster, and when she makes it clear, it's "flip at best, and snarky at worst?" And immature?

No, people had questions about her suggestion to leave something out of a thread, and her response to those questions was to heavily imply anyone who could not tell the difference between her saying something as a mod and as a poster was stupid. When there were questions about that, she sarcastically labeled something MOD VOICE in another thread. This was discussed, in this very thread. So, when someone uses all caps MOD VOICE in an attempt to seriously mod after using it in a snarky manner, that's just going to muddy the water. I'm saying once you do that with a label, you can't use that label again in the future and expect people to realize you are using it seriously.

@saosmash Honestly? Some of the names in that thread were braying for Auspice's head in this one not so long ago. I've personally observed how long they wank on a grudge and go nit-picking and twisting anything and everything into a federal case for shit to attack when they single somebody out with the intent of causing harm or humiliation or driving someone out. It's childish bully behavior, it's bullshit, and there's no excuse for it, or turning a blind eye to it and pretending it isn't happening, amongst people who claim to be adults.

And I JUST took you off ignore. That'll learn me.

I appreciate your insight, please elaborate.

Okay. When a person says things like "well you just make it so easy", or "lol I'm trollin u and you fell for it so hard", they are attempting to shape the narrative with that statement, regardless of what is really happening. It's like saying "the NFL called me to say they were super sorry for scheduling a game during my birthday party". Even if the NFL corrects that, publicly, the statement is out there so that SOMEONE will believe it.

And "well who cares about this when people are starving in North Korea" arguments are also not very sound to make, because one bad does not remove another. A better alternative might be "Why do you care so much?", because then the onus is on the other person to justify (or slip up and make a bad argument YOU CAN POUNCE ON). Go get em, tiger.

ETA actually most of this went on in the other thread. But whatever!

@roz I think the difference is that Glitch and ES never used MOD VOICE as obvious sarcasm. This mod team has, and thus it is kind of ruined. I'm not going @tempest over it, whatever. People are people, snark happens, mistakes are made. But I do think that makes it very hard to use "MOD VOICE" going forward.

I agree with @Apos. After Auspice's turn in this thread calling people who didn't realize she wasn't using "mod voice" stupid, any subsequent MOD VOICE is just going to come off flip at best, and snarky at worst. Find a more mature way to do it.

@bobgoblin When you have devolved into "HAHA YOU ARE TAKING MY BAIT LOL" and "there are real problems in the world", you have lost whatever argument you thought you were having so hard. I have skimmed this thread at best, so this isn't even about the content of your comments, just the form they are taking. Tempest is a way better troll than you. This way lies madness.

And yet doctors are shy telling them that their problems come from, e.g., being overweight because they're afraid to lose the business.

the hell they are. Doctors notoriously blame any and everything on weight. Particularly weight in women.

@insomnia If you're looking for someone to do 'portraiture', even if it is cartoonish, you're going to need to pay commission prices. I mean, you're going to need to pay whatever is asked for, anyway, or resort to upping your MS Paint skills. Drawing actual people is a lot harder than drawing tropes.

But a lot of us view a lack of OOC communication and collaboration to be a very bad thing. Like, talking to each other to ensure that there's not OOC animosity is fucking important in these hobbies.

Well get your shit together, Summer.

@kanye-qwest I'd say more YMMV. I played an absolutely horrible bitch of a vampire on TR. But everyone was aware that it was IC. But part of it may have been that I absolutely let her be wrong, and publicly so. She was a beatstick, a dog on a chain, but man, she'd bark her damn head off if she had an opinion. I still snicker to this day that she ran the only Elysium in town for awhile. Folks either loved or hated how she ran it.

Ok, but your average WoD game seems a lot more chatty OOC and sandboxy than any game I'd like to play. I don't want to feel like I need to be smiling and explaining myself on channels or befriending strangers just to RP a character. Like I said - that's not my jam.

@apos ehhh i played a mildly acerbic - mildly - person and had people treat me like a heinous bitch IRL because of it. I didn't talk to people OOC much, because I don't get like to get down like that. Experiences will vary, and if you are playing a terrible male character I think you get away with a lot more than if you are playing a 'terrible' female character.

I think it really really really depends on the game. If your game is mostly going to run on player plots and player driven conflict, sure. You can approve some assholes, some tough guys (and dolls) who don't afraid of no authority, etc. If you want your players to mostly work with each other, no. Noooooooooooooooo.

@saosmash Amen. People will take characters with totally reasonable sheets and dial them up to 13, or sometimes to a nice and steady 8. They need no encouragement to be edgy or confrontational, in my experience.

@faceless I know you weren't asking for advice at all but...if the lower paying job with the award winning employer culture won't put you in dire straits? That one, all the way. A company that respects work/life balance and takes care of employees is so, so nice to have.
