    • RE: Meanest (But Funniest) Thing You've Done in a Game

@ominous Was playing an Amber Diceless game, and one of the characters was trying to tag Princess Flora, turned out they were both shapeshifters of the advanced quality. So we go to get the other PC from Flora's room and the GM describes in rough terms, the sheer hentai going on in there (without being ultra descriptive, they just said slimy tentacles. Lots of them. They start reaching through the door).

I took a step back, and being first in strength amongst the group placed my hand on the other characters back so he can't escape when he tries to run. As he screamed when the tentacles took them I forced the door shut and held it shut until I heard nothing on the other side again.

Meanwhile, the guy who became the center point of an inadvertent tentacle threesome is all: I don't enjoy it!

GM compares psyche's of people in the room and then says:

      Yes, yes you do.

ETA: The player of the character I stopped from running, used to have this /thing/ when he ran V:tM or W:tA where my characters would always end up being tied up and abused somehow to the point I stopped playing in games he was running. It was nice to 'return the favor' so to speak.

    • RE: Backpacks!

@auspice I love this backpack: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BP5N2BS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I have had it for years, it is very good at carting around pretty big laptops (Carts around my asus gaming laptop without a problem) and is mostly waterproof for all weather, tough, durable, and most importantly, pretty comfortable.

      It's also cheap.

@auspice No. The problem is that they receive major kickbacks from the pharmaceutical company to get people to /try/ them in the first place.

Last psych I went to had me changing medicine every three months for my bi-polar, but I was like just give me fucking Lithium, that shit works for me (and is also how I got my forum moniker) but to this date, he won't put me on it.

FASERIP actually quantifies comics really rather well, there are ways you could do it, the only part of FASERIP that doesn't really work, is it's impossible for villains or anti-heroes to advance or develop stunts without the GM saying 'Have some villain points'.

    • RE: Potential Game / Temperature Read

@auspice As much as I like Eclipse Phase, I just don't think it translates very friendly to a MU. The concept of /losing/ memories, possibly long stretches of memories, does not make for a good MU time, cuz, how do you track when people last updated their persona, and what about forks, and the IC/OOC separation would be...

I love Eclipse Phase, but, on a MU* scale?

I say do the Expanse if you are feeling most passionate about it, getting rid of the 'FC's' is the right play imho.

All three of these could be doable, but I think for the Magicians and the Expanse you have to figure out what you're going to do with the book/show characters. Either get rid of them entirely, at which point how do you feel the game would work without them, or do you allow them as FC's or NPC's only?

Personally, I would love to see an Original Sci-Fi written by you, and that intrigues me more than the other two.

    • RE: FCs on Comic MUs

@surreality I wasn't suggesting that they wanted more intolerance, sexism, or anything like that. Just was commenting on the paradoxical nature of his statements and the way things are presented. As @Tempest said, first thing she got on the game was 'Women are supposed to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen, your lady scientist will be odd' or something to the sort.

It presents a different sort of mood than what @ixokai was saying. That's where my paradoxical comment came from.

I'm /definitely/ not saying Theme shouldn't be enforced, at all, one of my favorite original themes ever was heavily based on the Roman Empire in ways (Aether, I still miss you), adhering to theme is important.

There are a lot of reasons the 60's could be interesting, the civil rights movement, for sure, the change in society away from the red scare 50's days, etc.

I'm also glad that @ixokai said the PC's aren't expected to be racist/sexist, because they are heroes, which is good. Actually makes the game more interesting to me, though that wars with other things.

    • RE: FCs on Comic MUs

@ixokai Sexism and intolerance is a thing even today. Anyone who thinks otherwise is lying to themselves or perhaps so privileged they don't see it.

The thing for me is that RP and Games are meant to be an escape from reality, and it seems an odd point to try and enforce for gaming pleasure.

Or maybe it's just not directed towards me, and that is completely fine, but it strikes me as a bit odd where you claim that sexuality doesn't matter for even FC's on your game, but then you put forth that intolerance about sexuality and sex is a big thing on your game.

      Paradoxical.

@arkandel Don't get me wrong, I love the Netflix shows, just commenting on the financial burden probably being a very large issue as to why they don't do that many shows concurrently. It's a lot of eggs in one basket.

@lotherio The CW probably has a much bigger operating budget than Netflix does to be completely honest. It's also probably easier to get producers.

@collective FASERIP is awesome, but how do you do OC's with it? Random rolls? Converting it to a point system?

@kanye-qwest I kind of agree, the whole idea of 1963/1964 is that the world is supposed to be moving forwards at that time, and yet there is a clear policy of zero tolerance. Marvel was not that intolerant, it pushed it's intolerance onto a fictional type of being (mutants) in order to represent intolerance and the injustice of it. To actively promote an intolerant attitude and pick a timeline where Tolerance was a thing...

      It just squicks me.

With an FC pool that small, there's plenty of room for OC's too there. Which I think is good.

It would help from the get go if OC's were a driving factor on the game.

@tempest There's a few, many are dead or close to it. Champions MUSH is petering along with just a handful of people. There's also Brave New World but that has Elsa/Zero iirc, don't know if Marvel Reborn is still a thing or not, and @ZombieGenesis was running a M&M based game, dunno if it's still up.

@collective The only time sexuality of a character is important to me, is when someone is trying to force their idea of the characters sexuality onto me.

One time I app'd Iceman way way way before there was any young gay iceman from the past, and people kept trying to pressure me into playing him as gay. I refused. It caused me a lot of angst.

I am not straight RL, but that character, the original Iceman, was straight to me, and I was going to play him that way because that's how I saw him in my head.

Needless to say, those people trying to tell me /how/ to play /my/ FC, was one of the quickest turn offs to an FC ever.

It's why I don't like FC's anymore, to be honest, because no matter how you play it... someone is going to be upset with it.

You can't please everyone, so don't even try, but you can avoid that hassle by just making OC's.
