@jaded The problem here is that stun spells and stuff like that in the SR games by HB just do AP damage iirc, they don't actually disable anyone.

RE: FCs on Comic MUs
@thatguythere That just goes to show, that how 'powerful' and how 'weak' a given character is... is controlled by the writer. Nothing more, nothing less. Many writers don't even /try/ to keep things sensible.

RE: MSB Popularity Contest
How is this mildly constructive?
Seriously curious.

RE: Make MSB great again!
@arkandel And it /does/ happen here, upon occasion. Thankfully @Glitch was on the ball when it happened to me. I can only presume @Arkandel will be good about it too.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I won't play a game with microtransactions unless it's a f2p game (which is something of a joke, it's never truly free, they have to make money somehow). I would prefer to pay my money once and be done with them.
I don't mind spending money for DLC if it is actual /content/. In that respect I try to justify game purchases with how much time it will entertain me, a movie costs so much money, if the DLC can't entertain me for at least as long as a decent movie for the same price, not worth getting.

@wizz If you leave, then you aren't participating and guiding it's future is what @Arkandel means I believe.

RE: Make MSB great again!
@wizz It's appropriate for the hogpit. Not for anywhere else to be completely honest.
We can be supportive. We can be cruel. We can tear each other apart. We can build each other up. We can be a support group. We can be a rabid mob.
It comes and goes, if you are getting nothing out of participating on the forum, that's understandable. I take breaks every now and again myself.
It's not all bad however, we've had some great conversations and thrown around some awesome ideas before.
As to whether or not this place is worth it? Depends on what you're here for, and what you want to get out of it.

RE: Make MSB great again!
@wizz I personally wouldn't do anything based on someone else's opinion but formulate my own.

RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
XCom2 might be solid for a MU as well, where the aliens won, and the PC's are part of the resistance...

RE: FCs on Comic MUs
@misadventure I'm pretty sure there's not a mutant power of 'magic'. Magic is a power that some mutants have /learned/ but, not a mutant power in and of itself.
-
RE: FCs on Comic MUs
Only problem with limiting OC's to one power per se, is that some powers are inherently more versatile than others.
Telekinesis. Telepathy. Energy Manipulation. Matter Conversion. Etc. Etc.

Make the advertising section essentially locked. Original poster can post things, but otherwise, no comments. Keep the rules on the advertising thread to a single post, that way it's all concise, creators have to edit their initial post to keep things up to date should they so choose to update it.
But this also bars posters from posing questions to the advertisers, and permitting the advertisers to respond to the same. While I understand that we can always PM each other, you are severing a legitimate form of communication. Further, not all advertisements are for complete games; they are also used to see the general interest of the members for particular games and to solicit assistance.
Consequently, I disagree with @thenomain's synopsis. A cursory reading of the current Advertising Forum shows at least as many requests for help or feelers for interest as advertisements for completed games. Giving the poster control over what's in their thread is already an unspoken policy around here; there's no need to really change that. But I agree with Thenomain that it will take some genuine effort for us to, without policing, respecting the existing policies, let alone new ones.
Otherwise, and unsurprisingly, I concur with @faraday. Make the Reviews section non-Hog Pit and move parts to the Hog Pit if warranted.
I wouldn't use the advertisements board for what you are discussing. I would use the mildly constructive forum.

IF there are things wrong with a game that is on the advertisement thread, you can rest assured we can definitely create our own threads on the subject(s).

RE: FCs on Comic MUs
@apos Even that isn't going to be a surefire method. People have different RP styles, who wants to see a Batman who is smiling all the time while wearing the cowl. Bruce, yeah, he's a playboy but Batman? No.
So there's a lot of factors as to who would do an FC justice. Honestly... I find FC's to be the worst thing for a game in almost all circumstances, because whoever is clamoring to fanfic that character probably doesn't have the best intentions for the game as a whole. This is not a hundred percent true of course (nothing ever is) but an OC, at least they're trying to /create/ something for the game and push new storylines.

RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game
@misadventure Yes it's an RPG that really benefits from miniatures and hexes or square grid map. That is the part that makes it tricky or annoying to do on a MU honestly.
Also completely off topic, since I think FS3 will actually be a perfect fit for this game genre /and/ medium used.

RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game
@misadventure Pretty much which is what makes it fairly easy to code actually. Fire this weapon at this range at this target, make random percentile roll, get result based on armor worn. Apply damage.
-
RE: Looking for potential staff for a Colonial Marines (Aliens) game
@sg It is a great RPG for at home and having fun, now you /could/ automate it actually pretty well. All the way down to the random chargen, which might be worth doing honestly, but it'd take a lot of time and code. An interesting project I might think about trying once I finish the game I am working on.
@fatefan As for this, yeah, I am interested as well. I am assisting with code on one game, and coding (as well as writing, building, etc) my own or I would help.

You have to begin with a solid base. And I understand this should go without saying but it does apparently have to be said - if you do not have the temperament, if you do not have the organizational and narrative skills, you should not even make the attempt. If your goal is self-aggrandizement, you should not make the attempt; if your goal is to create a sandbox for yourself and for your friends and your attitude is that anyone outside of that group is so peripheral to your interests that they may be subject to any level of abuse, you should not make the attempt. When you begin toxic, you have no right to complain that the environment is poisonous. And when there is a problem on a comic game, 9 out of 10 times, it is because of this. All other problems flow from the source of malicious or inept staffers.
The sheer amount of 'No' in this bit is just absurd.
No MU is ran entirely by one person, unless it /is/ a game intended to be a sandbox for a few people and if so there is /nothing wrong with that/. Nobody has the right to tell people not to /try/ something, to not even make an /attempt/ at something is just... No. You don't get to choose that for people. That is the point of having multiple staffers, to shore up each others weaknesses and to play to your strengths. Nobody can be /everything/, at least not for long, without suffering severe burnout.
The problem on comic games is because they're all the same for the most part. Most games are a mix-mash of DC and Marvel (and more). Screw that. Most are WAY alternate timelines. Screw that. Most are places where there is no parity between FC and OC. Screw that.
Any staff problems only compound the issue.

Camping is a problem. There is no easy solution.
Here's a solution: how about only allowing one PC for every player? No alts. You're either playing on the game or you are not.
Permit people to use redshirts or proxy bits for the same PC, so that they can RP in two places at once if they are worried about missing RP opportunities on the game by being occupied in one scene.
This is a good idea, alts are not a good thing on Super Hero MU's in my opinion, they allow people to hold their 'favorites' and thus deny them to others. It is the rare person who can be ultra active on multiple characters at the /same time/, and even if you manage it, your attention and focus is split. Far better to just not allow alts as much as you can enforce, at least, not amongst the FC's. Maybe allow 1 FC and 1 (or 2, whichever) OC's might be the way to go here. Something worth trying at least.
I think a policy of FC's needing to /lose/ more might help. In the comics FC's are kicked around for much of an arc before they finally win the day, if they do at all. Part of the problem is that some people playing FC's aren't actually /writers/ in the sense that if they don't have a clear goal for a thing, they want to win by default especially if they're playing their favorite FC.
(EDIT: To remove stupid gif.)
