@faraday How easy would it be to make a WoD or a saga d20 game on Ares rather than your system?

RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux
@Lisse24 Neither is a mush a mud. Arx boarders very closely with a mud more so than it does a mush so creating comparisons between the two is tenious at best. Thats like saying "WoD tabletop should add mechanics like those found in other board games." Well uh maybe, but maybe not. You know what tools I want from a mush? Emit, dice rolls, character sheet, grid rooms. Thats all I need, and that should really be all anyone needs to fulfil a tabletop system that is cinematic like FS3 or WoD (FS3 is clearly even more cinematic than WoD but WoD is more cinematic than DnD. By that I mean the complexity of the mechanics, is it meant to simulate or just provide basic understanding so people can blow shit up.) Heck half the reason I dont play Arx is because of the amount of shit you can and should be doing codewise outside of just roleplaying and rolling dice. If I wanted to play kingdom simulator I have video games for that

Maybe these people have unreasonable expectations out of the hobby as it is today. This is especially true when the people most ENERGETIC in affecting the world around them are OFTEN the obnoxious, uninteresting, buries-staff-with-jobs, giant coterie/pack/motley plot-hogging sort.
I have seen this recently and do view it as a 50/50 blessing/curse. Sure you have activity but is it overall good activity? Sure you are promoting RP but is it for love of story or self-interest for the prize at the end of the arc? More than likely I would say most of these players probably start out with good intentions but power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux
@lisse24 The difference between a game like Arx which is a custom game, and a WoD game is that WoD is a tabletop rpg system. The "tools" for creating fun in the game as designed by the game is found in ghe rulebooks and only requires a go-ahead by staff that whatever id thematic and in keeping with the ideals of the game. Games like Arx are not using a tabletop system and thus create tools because otherwise they would have none

RE: Star Wars Stand Alone - Staff Sought
The idea for setting and storytelling, like others have said, I think is a great way to play a Star Wars game. Admittedly however the only SW rpg system that appeals to me is d20 saga so unless that is the system you end up using I probably won't come check it out
ETA: In fact when I ran saga on roll20 I had my players pick a starting ship, then their first mission was to check out a planet that had sent a partial distress call in the Outer Rik before falling entirely silent and then as they enetered the system they were shot down onto the planet and the entire campaign was based around them fixing their ship and finding a way to destroy the droid fleet from the ground so they could restablish comms and launch

RE: Warhammer 40K - Rise of Heroes
What templates do players play? Is it using the traditional 40k rpg system (d100's) or some custom system?

RE: NOLA 2: Back in the Vieux
Can yiu give us a break down on what NOLA is for thise of us who might not know?

RE: Godbound RPG
@zombiegenesis So I went and picked it up because.. free, and reading through it it would be great for one shot DnD games, or shorter less serious ones. It is very similar to DnD though you don't have to keep as much track of your AC and other stats as you will with DnD, and you can kinda just be creative and make a thing that is described by Words which activating those Words gets yah magic and the Words have to in a way describe both your god and the power you are looking for. Will probably try to run this with my group or set up a new table for it.

RE: Potential Supernatural Game
@bear_necessities Super friends friendly please, allow stuff like regular beat 'em up but death consent only, based on the story and where it goes. I mean a demon is a bad guy at the end of the day and good bad guy players know when its time to exit stage dead. Very fun characters when done in a collaborative way, because the demon is an ally because they get something out of it too that doesn't need to be the other PCs, it could be the "bad guy" that the PCs are fighting that you want something from. An item or regeant that you do or don't tell the other players you need (At least ICly)
Would have a lot of fun at a Supernatural game, dunno cortex but would learn it for this!

RE: ParanoiaMUSH
While I might only play this on occasion for some random shit to do I really think this could work out in a mush environment and eould be excited to see where this idea goes

RE: Do we need staff?
I would say there is several factors that decide the size of a Staff roster on a game.
- system, as faraday has pointed, some systems like FS3, are intentionally designed or simple enough (Akin to say FATE Core) that the need for a Staffer that is qualified as knowledgeable enough to settle misunderstandings or disagreements is minimal.
- The size of the player base. This is a bit more minimal on the size f the Staff roster I believe, but does play a role in figuring out if Staff is needed.
- Theme, as faraday and Gany have said, the tighter and more secure a theme is for a game, the easier it becomes for Staff to let players take things into their own hands. canon based games tend to be the easiest as the forumla for the theme is presented in the media of that canon, be it books or shows, so folks kinda know what they are getting into and working towards. Systems like wod have so many aspects of theme that can have multiple levels that without Staff guidance or say so can be thrown out of whack between groups of players. One group might have a heavy gory sort of horror theme for their playsessions, another group might focus more on the psychological horror aspects, and then if/when these two groups mingle it may cause misunderstandings between players so having Staff available to kinda help mediate and place players together for the appropriate tick boxes of the types of theme that are available and run by this group helps mitigate that.
I am biased on the idea that Staff should not just be there to facilitate +job stuff, I think Staff on a game in some way should be responsible for the theme and story telling that takes place on that platform. Also sometimes code breaks (which is a problem of many older MUDs these days that have no active Staff anymore, the systems begin to break down and no one has access to restore functionality or at least reboot the core systems or disable ones that are obviously broken and further breaking the game).
No one in the scene feels comfortable making the rules ruling (I have seen this a few times) without some higher authority helping out even if just for a clarification rather than a hard ruling.

Just want to throw my hat in the "still super excited for this" camp, in case you're wondering if there are people out there jonesing for some non-Denver Shadowrun. Cyberpunk 2077 is still a YEAR away, best case, and I need some cyberpunk (w/trolls and elves) to tide me over.
Or two, still no release date beyond maybe 2019 lol.
I dont know 5e as of this moment but if you guys want a storyteller dedicated admin hit me up and I will go learn it

RE: Blood of Dragons
@balerion Now do you reccommend a "roster" (that seems to be the general term around here for a already CGed character) character because then their skills and stuff are in proper place for the type of character? TBH I love being in dragons and magic and medieval worlds but I am not super huge into the politics and court, I would much rather just male a character that lives as part of court but has no majestic goals of obtaining a higher rank or the throne.

RE: Blood of Dragons
@balerion If you dont know anything about GRRM's works aside from dragons and politics, how accessible is BoD?
-
RE: Active Modern Day Games?
@bobotron first of all, that window is hella terrible to use on a phone. Second of all, what is up with the colors about half way thru? Third of all do you know if the community is "good"?

RE: Online character sheets?
@thenomain I mean I dont really hear dnd 5e called just 5e unless the people in the conversation only play dnd... which is rare.

RE: Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
@cobaltasaurus in the midly constructive section we have a list of open games thing that we have been using for this primarily, so go chuck the link in that thread as well please!

RE: Potential Buffy Game
@zombiegenesis So you say you have a buffy DB and I have tried to find but havent been able to what system or codebase you are going to be using for the game if you decide to open it.

RE: Online character sheets?
@thenomain said in Online character sheets?:
Is this for D&D 5e or Vampire 5e?
He says V5 in the original answer to you, so I am thinking VtM 5e
