      Automating PC-made equipment getting sold would be great, too. Yes, it can be a source of RP but some players don't necessarily want a scene every time they buy an item (and it's a fire-sure way to make craftsmen burn out if 90% of their scene requests involve selling pants and shirts - roleplaying being in retail isn't necessarily a blast 🙂 ).

      This is in place. If a PC has a shop, they can choose to list some of their recipes through it so people can 'buy' through them and just desc it themselves. And a lot of PCs will also just take orders over messengers and send back stuff if you want custom work.

      Edit to add: Oh, PC crafters can also choose to list pre-made stuff too. If you go to Joscelin's Atelier (@directions atelier), she usually has pre-made stuff put up in her shop.

      For me, I prefer to have some sort of IC scene so I can get a feel for the character I am creating for before making their stuff. I think it makes them a happier customer and my job easier when writing custom descriptions.

      Game of Thrones, but wait there's more. Set in Old Valyria before the Doom. Everyone can be special snowflakes in their own way; magic everywhere, dragons everywhere, special Valyrian steel weapons everywhere. The books establish something of a democratic system of 40-something (??) rival houses that led the republic while rivaling for power, so there could be all kinds of noble heads of houses. etc etc.

      And if everyone got so annoying that you had to, you can literally do 'rocks fall, everyone dies' at any point.

      @Packrat I also need to grab Cristoph for a scene someday, if you can forgive me for contributing to spending too much on clothing.

      This is factually incorrect. You can, indeed, be in more than one faction. See @Caryatid .

      If two factions disagree, you have to put in a temporary notice of hiatus to the faction in which you feel the least closest to the most members.

      1. Difficult to get caught up on lore stuff. The website lacks a lot of important information and so I've had to rely on what other players can tell me. This is also a challenge since I don't know what Marius would ICly know, and I don't want to be one of those people who assumes his character knows everything all the other characters in his sphere knows;

      This has been pretty consistently a problem that I have seen since even I joined. There are things that I actually do think my character would know, that you'd have to spend a lot of time exploring the grid or asking questions about. I wish we had a more concise way to know with a trust to people to not assume whether it makes sense for their character to know. (I play a level 5 intellect character with tons of varied learning written justifiable I think into her background. It's harder to play when someone mentions a really common history thing and you are like ??? yeah that sure happened.)

      I think people have made strides to helping this as players and as staff. With the player wiki being an unofficial thing and the theme board being an official. I hope I see the theme board used more now that we have it.

      Aw, come on. Anywhere. Give them personal rooms or 'quiet' rooms they can idle in without spamming each other. ... Then let channels do what they're there for, with a history function so they can be monitored by staff for abuse (as opposed to 'X said Y ten minutes ago' and sending logs back and forth after the fact).

      Personal rooms don't fit every game theme, and as previously mentioned I already have a quiet room if you want to opt out of chit-chat. Also you're assuming the history function is enabled, which not all games do.

      Oh come on, what theme doesn't fit with a 'personal room'? Are your characters literally /never/ alone? It doesn't even have to be a 'room'. You could have a 'barracks' and have a 'bunk' room for each person off it. There are plenty of ways to work in a place where a character can go just to put their bit without having to be around others that would work just the same as a quiet room but also give the player some breathing room to do other things.

      (Not TS. I am talking about like-- When I was on Arx, I idled in my room and chatted on channels, and even @emit'd some object formatting to my room to see what I'd get.)

      I was afraid to ever post on WORA. Never did, actually, before it closed.

      I have posted on here, and I think in useful and productive ways, even when it was straight up a call-out post.

      That should illustrate my thoughts on the difference between the two.

      It is absolutely MSB owners' right to tolerate and even encourage such behavior if they feel it's a good thing.

      To be fair, MSB owners/admins do not encourage any such behavior. Nor do they discourage it. As ES said in the thread, they provide the framework, we are making MSB what it is. (With some exceptions, of course. Like trolling and the like.)

      It does go back to the fact that people calling out shit as it happens isn't a real check. I know I have called out behavior and it goes ignored. Though, I have approached people about behavior and also gotten positive feedback and receptiveness. So I don't know the answer to this.

      Do we need a safeword?

      @surreality said in RL Anger:

      @Meg Hate to say it, but when I'm getting dogpiled and every mound of insults slung in my face is upvoted to the heavens, it's pretty clear that behavior is being cheered and lauded, not merely deemed acceptable. And, again, I can't even fucking apologize to someone without being a pile of shit for doing it. Doesn't exactly incline me toward being terribly apologetic or forgiving.

      You don't have to be. I don't ascribe to the philosophy that anyone has to behave in any specific way in these forums. People will either like how they behave or not, myself included, but that doesn't mean they /have/ to do anything. I am sorry there is dogpiling, which is always a rough thing to experience on these forums. (I've had it happen and had to throw up my hands and be like THIS IS NOT THE HILL I WANT TO DIE ON and stop posting for a while in that thread.)

      I just think the battle is already lost. People have already heard all the arguments and decided their own opinions, one way or the other. Without actually introducing new things to the thread, it's just gotten old, for me, at least. (I don't want to speak for anyone else.)

      @shangexile ...yeah. 😕

      Guys, uh. We are treating each other like humans and such. There is zero need to dogpile him; please don't. What he ultimately did was hard, and it was a good thing. Anybody angry with him on my account, please be aware that very awkward fence is trending toward mending, and that I would sincerely appreciate it if people didn't pour fuel on any perceived fires in that regard. He's not being a dick right now; please do not treat him like he is. Let's maybe try to let the few small decent human beings gains going on survive, at least in this case.

      I would be grateful, and grateful enough I will go fuck off for a while and STFU, ok?

      Agreed. He did a good thing. I am glad that he started actually speaking and then got to the point where he apologized. Auspice may or may not have him blocked though, and perhaps couldn't read his posts. Which would suck, @shangexile, and be frustrating, but please consider that too. You don't need to defend yourself. There's people that appreciate what you've done and approve, whether you care or not, and there will be people who won't care, whether you care or not. Such is life.

      Anyways, I have a migraine and I'm going to go lay down before I cry.

    • RE: Identifying Major Issues

      @Rook

      man, I have never heard of that game. I am saddened that I missed the chance to try it.

      I do think there are certain personalities that will always want things given to them; not entitlement, but just hesitant, unwilling, etc for all kinds of different reasons. Some people will always need to be handheld, regardless of anything else. A good portion, I'd even say.

      Then there are people that will always make their own fun, push their own plots, etc etc. Because that's just the way they approach the hobby. (And man, how many times will they have to get accused of shit like staff favoritism or being figuratively glared at and bitched about by people not making their own stories?)

      And there will be people in between. I don't actually see this as a problem of the hobby. It comes down to human nature.
