My specific gripe is less with the color involved, and more with the values: dark text on a dark background, light text on a light background, etc. I have to play with a dimmed monitor because of a severe light sensitivity (thanks lupus) and that affects how well I can distinguish between text and BG (also thanks lupus, since that's what damaged my eyesight and continues to do so). Just be conscious of that when picking text colors, as some people feel that dark ansi is perfectly visible against black or dark gray, and it only is on some superbright monitors.

RE: Where do you draw the line in having your character take what would otherwise be an "IC" action for them?
You're the one who controls the character, so you're the one who can make new motivations feel ic, or at least pick some plausible ones.
Yes, that may be annoying, but even in real life people's unpleasantness sometimes forces us to re-evaluate what we'd do.

RE: Mu* Clients for new iPad Pro?
If you can afford a windows-based tablet, I'd suggest that instead, since you can game on them, mush on them, and in many cases now, draw on them. Getting a clip-on or bluetooth keyboard is not very expensive.

RE: Make MSB great again!
@arkandel This site enables harassment.
You allow known stalkers, with known pasts of stalking behaviors, to harass and slag other players. My messages blew up with a half-dozen regular posters who are afraid to speak up for fear of being further harassed here and on various games where they know those folks play, and who have mentioned other players who feel the same, by name.
You tolerate that, and it's why I mostly have stopped supporting or interacting with this site, beyond maintaining my ad thread. It's why a number of folks I know refuse to come here anymore, why even more read but refuse to post, and when this site's name come up, they assume it's just more shitposting and vendettas.
This is wora-level bullshit.
And yes, I have had to deal with players who were extremely shocked and hurt to see themselves and their friends harassed here, many of whom have never posted here at all. And you think that's okay, too. It's not okay. It drives players out of the hobby, especially new players.
I shouldn't even have to post about this, because it shouldn't be happening. If this site was genuinely good for the hobby, most people wouldn't be put off by the mere mention of it.

So my question is: what tips are there for Players who want to make sure their style is meshing well & inclusive of those gathered?
Offer hooks. Reply to questions if you can, or give an inquiring look or an encouraging question if you can't. Reply to what is said. Ask questions of your own. Include folks if you notice no one is picking up on their poses. If your character is very flashy, make a point of highlighting other characters in the scene. If your character is not, try to find a reason why they might speak up or interact-- even if it's out of their comfort zone.

My character still has that framed, autographed print of Dayne. So muscular!

I want to hang out with this guy at this exact concert. Just hide the PBR.

RE: Good writin'.
@Ghost Thank you. You were always wonderful to RP with, and please come to F&L if you ever return to MUing.
Unfortunately I think the rest of us are all on different games, too. :<

RE: Faceless' Playlist
@Ghost It's like a shimmer or a glow of light, usually gold-tinged, that surrounds the character. In Dayne's case (he was huge and golden to begin with), the impact imo was like Armstrong from Full Metal Alchemist every time he showed off his muscles.

RE: I owe a lot of people some apologies.
@surreality I think that's pretty clear. People are just identifying the cause of the drama and want something done about it.

RE: Marvel: 1963+
@tnp I'll follow y'all to the next one if you allow OCs, especially if you let folks bring their immortal ones over. What's 40 years? xD

RE: Unlikeable, incompetent, and inactive: Can these characters work in an MU?

@goldfish Sometimes i'll even play with some metapose if i know my character is being a dick.
"<Some assholish statement>" Did he just? ... yes, yes he just said that, with a straight face even, he's gotta be sarcastic right? RIGHT? Alas, No, Grover is just a prick, apparently.
That, and being willing to roll with the consequences of one's prickishness, tend to go a long way in establishing OOC goodwill towards a 'difficult' character. Showing character growth over time helps, too.
@mietze said in Unlikeable, incompetent, and inactive: Can these characters work in an MU?:
I think people can truly adore unlikable characters based on how they're written (or like in the case of a TV show, how they are portrayed), in a love to hate way. For me an example would be John Smith in the latest TV series of Man in the High Castle. Do I like him as someone who I'd love to hang out with? NO. But he IS one of my favorite characters on that show because the way he is written and more importantly the actor's portrayal of him really make him enjoyable to watch on the screen.
There's a lot of pathos that can be mined from nonverbal reactions that offset, undercut, or inform people's villainy; Rufus Sewell is a master of that, but we RPers can do so as well, yep.

If you ever need to know my I say, personally, you both make chars on FandL and battle it out in the streets so we can all watch.... Please? I haven't had a Battle Royale in... oh, heh, it's only been a day. Still, come on in.
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
Or join the vampire sphere.

RE: Unlikeable, incompetent, and inactive: Can these characters work in an MU?
@mietze I always try to have multiple defining traits for my characters (even if they aren't always obvious) just to make things more flexible. But my policy is to also try to say 'yes' to RP opportunities whenever I can, even if at first it might be out of character for them to be there.

RE: UX: It's time for The Talk
@HelloProject Yay!
We let players be able to raise most stats as they like (provided they have the xp) without staff needing to authorise it to speed stuff up, too. We're not perfect, but felt that some of the gatekeeping about justification was unnecessary busywork.
So, parts of our code were designed or adapted to try to remove staff as a barrier between players and RP.

I really hate my family sometimes. And I hate myself for not being able to be a bitch to them.
The fact that your family has normalised cruelty (because conservatism has) to the point that you hate yourself for not being cruel is saddening.
Point your hate at those who deserve it, not yourself.
Are you actually suggesting they shoot their family instead of themself?
Cause when I read...
"I rolled my eyes, but inside I'm the weak ass fuck who doesn't have the heart to tell them that, you know, if I'd had a gun available at certain times in my life, I probably would have shot myself in the fucking head with it."All kinds of red flags come up.
Maybe learn not to hate? Get help?I'm saying hate fox news and the republican propaganda machine instead of focusing that on themselves.
