@ganymede Why don't players fuck non-social system rolls (or don't do so as badly)?

They do, quite often in my experience. They'll nuke another player with a devastating attack, then after you lay there, mutilated and in pieces, they'll say, "Oh, I just wanted you to be knocked out, please don't die, I don't want to be known as a PKer" UGh, then why did you attack me with your full power rolls using a machinegun?

    • RE: Comfort Food...

@jinshei Most of the specialized poutine places will be lacto-vegetarian by default. Almost all of the poutine shacks I've encountered in Montreal and out west will use a mushroom gravy unless otherwised specified, the only constant is they'll claim they're using the original recipe and everyone else is fake. Might be best to call anywhere near you ahead of a trip. There's a couple places in my city that do pretty good vegan poutines 🙂

I picked up Battlestar Galactica Deadlock last night. It's a lot like the table top Attack Wing or X-Wing but without character cards, I'm liking it!

I think I'm going to make Kafka Mush:

Where you can fill out apps and file queues all day long for every little thing. Then realize you're short on house rule prerequisites, of which there are many, and their use is so esoteric, so you have to do a whole whack of other queues and wait for them to resolve before proceeding. But by the time they're almost done, the staffer disappears and you wait for a new staff, who has a different interpretation of everything so it's back to square one.

If done correctly, there should only be one PC on the grid at any one time.

I don't know if anyone would call it 'good,' but I'm watching Kong Skull Island right now and enjoying the hell out of it. Once you get past the mysterious extra 10 helicopters, it's a really fun, really stupid movie.

    • RE: Make it fun for Me!

I've always encountered these arguments when there was some element of PvP involved. It was usually invoked by staff to get the resolution their involved friend wanted, often saying something like, "dear unpopular player, it's often 'more interesting' to have a setback or two on your hero's journey. It's best for you to lose this encounter and then you have something to work for!" Or some BS like this.

It always seems to be players with no staff alts or no friends on staff that are asked to make it fun for someone else, and it's tedious.

I think this is why if I ever find myself on a game with different factions that are set against each other, I tend to clique up and sandbox things as much as possible with people I get along with.

Saw The Towering Inferno the other day.

Richard Chamberlain really nailed playing a shitheel in that movie, it was great. Also watching Steve McQueen and Paul Neuman trying to out macho each other was a real treat as well.

    • RE: How do you like things GMed?

@Derp said in How do you like things GMed?:

People can talk about not liking things being 'on rails' or whatever, but sometimes you just gotta use that fiat.

As a player, I'd like a heads up about scenes like these so I can opt out. If a GM has an outcome that has to happen, then I'd just rather not, I'll skim their story on the +Bboard.

What makes things fun in role playing is the emergent story that happens via dice rolls and the input of other players. Some of my most memorable moments as a DM were when my big badass end boss got one shotted, or as a player someone in the party took out the balrog with one wild swing thanks to the 20-20-20 rule.

    • RE: RL things I love

Went to Ikea to get the frame for an adjustable/standing desk. I got the cheap crank one because it felt solid, and after spending the afternoon drilling the hell out of my old drafting desk which was too wobbly for a battlestation, I'm rocking a desk at a comfortable height, and I can stand up when I want to. It's pretty boss. Also got an ergo assessment at work, and they boosted my desk there up two inches and got me a new chair.

I'm looking forward to this brave new world of good/decent posture.

This probably makes me a horrible person, but watching the last few weeks of Reddit melting down has been very entertaining during a slow period at work. It reminds me of that old shit storm Serenity went through a few years back.

    • RE: Space Games and Travel Time? Why? Why Not?

So, here's a crazy idea, why not have space adventure games in localized areas where moving from one spot to the other in a RL day isn't some sort of immersion breaking feat?

I've played on star wars games that were localized in a sector, where it would take maybe 3 IC days to go from coast to coast, and it was awesome because this wasn't an issue.

Then others where you cross the galaxy at the speed of plot (and had to because the gun store was located on one planet, and the gaunch store was located on another) and it was shitty because in the middle of plots the PHB would say, everyone in my office, now!! and people would have to ditch out on the fun, despite the fact that it would take IC days for the orders to come in, but oocly the boss was having a shit fit over some random thing.

Anyways, design a setting with this in mind, I guess.

    • RE: GMs: Typical Player/GM Bad Habits

GM Bad Habit: Throwing a Big Bad in front of low level players expecting them to run away.

I get that having a teaser of what is to come is sometimes a great thing, but this is so overused(In mushes and TableTop), I've seen and am now a player who will almost never go for it because almost every encounter is a death sentence.

As a GM, it's taken me years to get my players to trust friendly NPCs, after having one screw the party over back in the day. I've also done a lot of work rehabbing my group with having realistic stats for bad guys instead of 'Scaling for level'.

Anyways, this came to mind saturday when my TT GM jumped our fresh 3rd level characters with a fucking Aboleth. We tried to run, but cultists teleported in and kept us from getting away and now we have a jellified illusionist in a bucket.
