It's sure as hell not bad enough for anybody to be throwing in the towel. 'Something to work on' is not the end of the world, but it is something that's going to introduce ugly consequences if you guys move to the step of deleting things instead of just moving and redirecting. Either the ugly consequences are going to require more work, or the work needs to be put in in the lead-up phase towards consistency.

RE: Mud Hosting, for 0 budget?
If you set it up to run on your own machine over your home internet connection, make sure you go and read your agreement with your ISP. Comcast in particular at least used to have some particularly strong language about doing anything that allowed incoming connections if you don't have a business account.

RE: How is there not a Gloomhaven thread here?
I mean, she said that they're enjoying Gloomhaven and it works for them? I'm not sure what your issue with it is, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying a paid product. You're coming across as weirdly aggressive about peoples' enjoyment of a game.

I don't know that we've ever really engaged, but hooray for new-ish faces!

Faraday calls Bob all kinds of names, against forum policy.
Mod says "Be nice"
Bob still has to look at the post sitting there calling him all kinds of names but isn't supposed to respond. This (and the rest of the post surrounding it) is my problem/concern. It is currently happening this way, and it is my opinion that the deletion of posts will make it worse, not better. If there is some reason to believe that this will not be the case if posts do start getting deleted, then I don't actually have a problem with doing it that way instead. The deletion of posts is superior in every case that I can think of EXCEPT for this specific issue, but this specific issue is enough for me to be made REALLY uncomfortable with the thought of things being done that way. The amount of bullying that it would enable is pretty extensive.

RE: [Request] Policy Template
I don't think it's a good idea to have a single file called 'rules'. Too long, nobody will read, and if you want to reference a specific rule you have to spam yourself. Break them down into separate files, titled by their subject, and each is their own policy. Slap on a policy index and go.
Seriously. Do it that way, not this way. Experience speaking.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I am actually a terrible person, or I suppose I can just be bought? My desire to mitigate my pain has proven to be stronger than my ethics; stupid WoW has become a fixation. I think I'm feeling the urge to play so strongly because 1- I'm in crisis (and this has long been a way for me to vent some of that pressure, and 2- I have told myself NO (and because it's off limits it becomes much more attractive).
BLEH.

Because the hogpit isn't staying in the hogpit and the moderators are asking for input regarding that situation.

I think I have a skewed viewpoint on what constitutes 'too long', which is suddenly worrying me about running a MUSH with an original theme now.
Still, that's good advice, thanks.
I am queen of wordy, I get it. Theme /setting files are a whole different beast than policy files. Short. Simple. Blunt. I'm awful at it, but I recognize the need. Usually I use a ghostwriter. Because wordy. But this makes me look succinct. Do not be me.

@sunny I may have to try it now. One of the big things holding me back is that I'm really bad grouping with people for dungeons and stuff. I played WoW and avoided all that stuff, because of it, but it stalled my play because I needed to go into some places to further the story. So I ended up dropping WoW. Then again, WoW is full of little jerks that get pissy if you're not quick enough and I hated that.
You totally should give it a shot; there's a trial up to level 60. It isn't eliminating ALL of the group play (there will still be a few things you have to do for progression unfortunately), but it is the bulk of it. FFXIV does have its little jerks that get pissy if you're not fast enough, but they are not even remotely the majority. Peeps get rewards for playing with new players, peeps get bribed with hefty bribes to do instances with noobs, there's a mechanic called the echo where if you wipe enough the fights get easier....well, I've been pugging as a healer all this last week, and I have not once been squawked at.

Cyberpunk is definitely a sub-genre of Scifi. You're free to be wrong all you like, though. Don't let me stop you.
Wikipedia says it is, too, but here's a link from some people with a stake:

I encourage you to do your own research.

RE: [Request] Policy Template
Yep. And I think those 'immediate boot to the face' things are different for most game leads. My button issue is 'if I catch you fucking spying OOC I will end you'.
Though honestly the longer I do this hobby the longer my list of 'no second chances, do this and you're gone' things is. I was checking through my policies mentally to see which ones I'd be more likely to allow a 'second chance' for and I'm coming up mostly with 'none of them'. Mainly I think it would be doing things not-by-the-rules by reasonable 'ignorance' standards -- they didn't know the rules for PRPs and didn't realize it was different than X or Y's game, or something like that. If the primary problem is 'didn't read a news file' and not what I feel should be common standards of behavior (if someone tells you to stop paging them, STOP) or whatever, that's where I'd give people chances. Where I can say -- yeah, this is traditionally different here and while yes you should have read the files, go do that now, and all the other ones, too -- that I can easily see what happened. If it's not a situation like that, though? Meh, I'm not big on second chances any more. Cause a problem? Bye.

Yeaaaah, I don't think money is the thing here, it's time/energy, both of which unfortunately cannot be purchased outright. Or we would.

RE: Forum wonk
Thanks, I should be able to get around it, with that! I figured there'd be a few things busted with the move, also figured reporting it was the way to go.

RE: Texan MU*ers
My favorite Texan has reported in. She doesn't come around these parts that I know of, but she's OK now! It was a really rough few days from what I heard.
