    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

      I am at my desk.

      I have a scarf on. I have a space heater. My blinds are closed against the window, so it's not sucking out the heat.

      I am freezing my tail off, still. Omg. This building is SO freaking cold, and my coworkers are all 'I don't know what you mean, I'm comfortable' and 'you're crazy, I'm sweating buckets' and I'm over here with my teeth chattering and my fingers turning blue. No, it's not really THAT bad, but it sure SEEMS like it. FREAKING COLD AND I DO NOT LIKE IT.

    • RE: Consent in Gaming

      @Auspice

      To be 100% honest I do not give a fuck about "bad actors". Bad actors get a boot up the ass immediately in any game situation I am ever responsible for, anymore. I am making policies for the good people to use to engage with one another, and it's really important to me that good people be able to say "nah, that's not fun" for ANY reason. It's up to me as a staffer to nail down the assholes.

      ETA: I am completely fine and comfortable with full consent games, even. Because when someone fucks up that environment by abusing it, you get rid of them. The 'get rid of them' is the factor most of our games have been missing for the last two decades, and now we're left making policies that seem to forget that this is even an option.

      Policies are to give the good people a framework for interaction, not to keep bad actors from being bad. It doesn't matter what your policies are, the bad actors are going to be bad. You just have to make sure your good people know what that behavior is so they know to tell you.

      ETA2: There is no policy in existence that will keep poor sports from being poor sports, petty people from being petty, or people who can't deal with consequences from having a fit when they're applied. It is not possible. It's not even really possible to minimize it. Bad actors are bad. Period. What policies CAN do is help reasonable people (which is most of them) speak the same language and have the same expectations, reducing misunderstanding and miscommunications because everyone knows what's expected of them.

      OK, I am withdrawing from this conversation and putting the thread on ignore with one last repetition because holy crap I am frustrated right now:

      I am advocating for it not happening on-screen, not for it not happening at all.

    • RE: TS - Danger zone

      I cry sometimes when I watch a sad movie, read a sad book, or RP out a sad scene. I have certainly felt anger when my character is angry, and elated when they succeeded. I was so happy when someone made my character a dress and gave it as a present to her, especially because I know how much OOC time went into making it IC.

      But I do not ever even a little bit get horny from sexual rp because that would be wrong and bad and clearly would show that I have IC/OOC issues, amirite?

      ETA: The previous statement is untrue. Hyperbole. There have been scenes that I found hot. It has absolutely happened. I had sexy dreams about an MMO NPC once, too. TOTALLY had to fan myself cool after the first kiss between my Jedi Knight and [redacted] in swtor, since I've been waiting literal years for that shit. And Cullen in DA:I? Zomg.

      That is a good point. As an ST, I still use 'you' in one on one storytelling scenes. Not that I have lately, but when I start my OTT up again...yeah. I DO do that!

      My IT office is also much with the prank wars and screwing with each other and such. Right now, we have sticker wars, because stickers-on-things is one of the things that drives one of my coworkers completely bugnuts. So of course we put stickers on his everything whenever he's not looking.

      He gets his revenge, though, never fear.

      Childish? Sure. Fun? Yessssssssssssssssssssss.

    • RE: Privacy in gaming

      My expectation of privacy is not that any given someone MUST provide it. It IS a selection criteria for me. If somewhere has it on policy that they will not be what I, specifically, find reasonable about my privacy I will not play there no matter what. I can understand the reasons for it, respect that it is their decision, and never once darken their doorway ever. Which is perfectly reasonable.

      I couldn't afford implants, as yeah, that is about the cost they run. I will say that dentures (I have a full set top and bottom due to car accident stuff) are not at all that bad. Mine fit so well I don't have to use glue or anything, and I can eat just fine and such. That runs more in the range of 5k, and gives room to maneuver for the big bill.

      ETA: plus I can pull them out and chase people with them, which is always a complete win.

      Please. I would subscribe to this newsletter if you carried through with this threat.

      ETA: Derp's best impression of Gordon Ramsey's critique on TS logs would be -- I mean, you could probably do a patron thing.

    • RE: RL things I love

      I am so blessed with my job.

      Working from home today (instead of losing the hours) while I recover from a medical thing, with an assignment that's sort of like a donut assignment to begin with (it's a complete treat to be able to work on this stuff at all, it's super fun for me).

      My boss just called to give me more work to work on, and it's all interesting research in a vein I research on my own for fun sometimes.

    • RE: How to Approach (nor not) a Suspected Creep

      We OOCly play our characters.

      Even if there is no OOC communication, problematic OOC behavior is still possible.

    • RE: Personal Agency for Personal Boundaries

      @Ganymede

      I am seriously not trying to be rude here, but there have been SEVERAL posts by people here (me, including) detailing at length how we feel about things, our experience with them, and what is helpful about some of the solutions posed. What you are asking for has had several HUGE posts made in the past few days in this very thread speaking to that precise issue. I don't have the spoons to go into it again, and just quoting my post a second time at you isn't really mildly constructive. The question posed has been answered here repeatedly.

      @Aria

      I just heard that all of the artifacts and individual pieces of art were also saved/survived (not the windows), too. And that only one person was hurt, a firefighter, and while he was seriously injured, is expected to recover. I'm hoping that this is true.

      I mean, cool. Your post asked what they were waiting for. I understand you and I don't agree, and that's fine, but I don't think it's out of line to point out that what you are cheering for so excitedly isn't something that everyone is on board with for equally as valid reasons.
