      @Cupcake

      It doesn't make you a bitch to feel frustration / aggravation / etc in reaction to that. It's a reasonable internal reaction to that behavior. What would make you a bitch is if you then behaved with frustration/etc. Which I am positive you did not do. Thus, no, it does not make you a bitch. Your human reactions to social norms being violated are reasonable -- where the understanding/tolerance comes in is in how you moderate your external reaction, the choices you make.

      My immediate reaction to someone slapping me (obviously this is not even remotely in the same ballpark or emotional scale or whatever) is always going to be anger. I may not punch somebody if I realize in time that they did it because some bug life saving blah blah.

      Context does not matter to the lizard brain. Lizard brain controls initial emotional reaction. Context matters for thinking rational brain, which governs behavior.

      However, relative to the concept of the OOC game, its not very newbie friendly to only play with known commodities, just in my opinion.

      Agreed. I think it's unhealthy for the game as a whole to not engage new/unknown folks, and something the community of any game, no matter how good they are right now lol, should be way way better about it. This is an area where everyone can pretty much always improve. I do my best to try when I remember, and I know a lot of other people do, too. Still worth bringing up and reminding us all about.

      ETA: I should add 'for the first few months' of not being out, because the moment I end up around people who know me it's pretty much all over. SOMEDAY I will figure out what my tells are. Someday.

      Staff: I know that IP, hey everyone, play with this PC its our old friend ... (Kidding, or I hope I'm kidding)

      I wish you were kidding, lol.

      @surreality

      While I have not had that specific experience, I have had similar within the hobby. Very similar. I have had to get RL law enforcement involved. These statements by @surreality are true things; these are lived experiences. It's worth keeping in mind when discussing the topic.

      ETA: Y'know, screw it. There was a period (which ended with me ultimately leaving the hobby for a while) where my ex husband (or someone pretending to be him) was logging into games and pretending to be somebody else to get around the protection order I had and continue to screw with me. He made a character and roleplayed with other people long-term and everything. This shit happens to people. I am pretty sure he still pokes in here and lurks every once in a while to keep tabs on me, based on things my kid has said.

      In my Mod Voice, loudly: if you feel threatened or stalked on this board, please bring it to our (Arkandel and I) attention immediately. Arkandel and I agree on few things, but we absolutely will not tolerate stalking. We may request that you help us understand what's going on, but we promise you -- I promise you -- we will take that shit very, very seriously.

      Thank you.

      Facebook. I know, I know, it's a plague upon humanity, but I've been able to keep track of some old co-workers that I would have had to work a LOT harder at, if it was even possible to do so without the FB. But really, what I love are....

      ...Those people who your positive relationship with them never changes. Like, you get along thick as thieves, don't speak for 2 years, and then it's just la la la like nothing happened.

      "Words only have the power you give them to hurt you" is a lot like "oh, you're depressed? You need to spend more time outside!"

      Yes, but that's not actually the problem, here.

      Going to repeat my point:

      Telling people that words only have the power they're given is exactly like telling someone who is depressed to go outside.

      I am going to play vampire again, I think. I am looking forward to this a lot. The more I talk about it / read about it, the more excited I am. I am probably just now on the other side of the line between many years of burnout and nostalgia, but...yeah. Really looking forward to this.

      I know you said you didn't want the attention so maybe I'm bad for this, but I am really really really glad you got through the cancer. My work wife is finishing up her chemo right now and it's brutal, and I know I'm not even seeing the worst of it. Glad you had the wake up call and didn't give up.

      @lisse24

      I love Cobra Kai, sooooo much, but I would not recommend it for a kid. 13ish would be as young as I'd see it, depending on maturity levels. Not that it would really screw with a younger kid exactly so much as like, the themes it deals with and so on aren't really target appropriate.

      making something a priority (everyone's enjoyment) over continuity does not mean I don't/can't recognize someone taking advantage of that

      This.

      It doesn't surprise me that some people don't understand the PTSD° of surviving some of the worst, most self-centered staff and overbearing, self-righteous players.

      The quote above is a sign of healing.

      ° This is not to demean anyone with battlefield- or domenstic-style PTSD. My heart goes out to all who do.

      Lol, hey. It IS a sign of healing, and I didn't really recognize that. Thanks. I have been doing a LOT of healing work the last few years, after the hell of my younger years, and it's neat to recognize it happening in areas I'm not really actively working on.

      Also, as someone who does deal with PTSD of the non-combat variety, I do think it is a reasonable way to discuss this variety, because it IS what it is. Trauma is trauma, and how human creatures deal with it is the thing.

      I think DressBarn is changing their name to something less offensive. The ones out here are at least. I only know this because I have had 3 different people PM me on FB to tell me this because they recollect my flailing and 'WHY WOULD YOU CALL A DRESS STORE THAT' as super amusing, apparently.

    • RE: Star vs Ensemble Cast - Why Theme is Vital

      I forgot genre.

      Genre: This is like, what TYPE of game. Sci-fi, urban fantasy, etc.. I'd actually say with some of the bigger IPs, the IP itself is at this point the genre (WoD, Pern, Star Wars) at least culturally.

      ETA: Culturally as in within our hobby, to clarify.

      I totally don't think that what definition people use specifically actually matters, just for the love of little green apples if you're going to have a conversation about theme, define theme, otherwise it's all nonsense all the day long with people talking past one another and nobody actually learning anything.
