    • RE: The Apology Thread

      @Warma-Sheen said in The Apology Thread:

      So mine was an regret-expressed non-apology.

      Which is something I fully support. I think there is a lot more to be gain from honest communication even when the parties do not agree and will not come to an agreement then there is from performing a social dance one does not mean.
      I think that is one of the reasons people tend to look over apologies so closely is that through both fiction and modern media we see far to many non-pologies.

      @Alzie
      Hate to break it to you but if someone has been gone and unplayed for seven months there death has the exact same impact as a nameless npc no matter how important they may have been.. My argument has always been less with the policy, hell if I ran a game their would be regular idle purges of anyone gone more then 3 months barring something like RL military deployment or something like that., but againt the waxing of the pcs if you want to do that do in universally as in weather the player says this is what my char does or not. At least then it is only lazy storytelling that is the issue, not the presence or appearance of ooc spite.
      And no I do not think all death in storytelling is lazy but I have seen too many times storytellers acting like the mere presence of death make it someone compelling.

    • RE: Classic World of Darkness

      I think the biggest issue with the multiple cities would be the fragmentation of the player base, if you have 30 players but split up between three cities that turns into three mini-games with 10 players each. Allowing alts will help with that but not everyone will make an alt in every sphere.

      @WildBaboons said in Wheel of Time MU(SH|X):

      It's been a while since I've look at it.. but from what I recall and previous experience it's far too crunchy for what I'm looking for.

      On a scale of 1-10 how much crunch are you looking for? 😮

      1 - Descriptive traits, no numbers no dice. (Comic MUSH)

      3 - FATE, descriptive traits with minimal numbers and dice.

      5 - nWoD, numbers and dice everywhere but very simplistic

      8 - L5R, numbers and dice everywhere and lots of 'feat' type things to modify stuff. (Fuzzy here, only played L5R once, been a while.)

      10 - d20 with feats, talents, spells, enchanted items (angreal), armor class, THAC0, etc.

      I'm no tabletop expert, so my chart is probably off. Sue me.

      Chart is not bad though I would say these ratings are based on a 1-20 scale since there are games like Traveller and Gurps out there that are much more complex than D20 not to mention any system ever published by GDW if we want to dig back into the mists of history.

      I am kinda in both camps on this one. To me RPing is primarily a social activity, if it was just the placing myself in a role and gaming aspect there are video games that do that better and far more time efficiently then MU* could ever dream of, and I am far more likely to RP with someone I find pleasant OOCly then someone unpleasant or a blank slate OOCly. However I almost never give out RL information to people I RP with even those I consider friends and have RPed with across multiple games over many years.

    • RE: Where the hell is everyone?

      I think places are getting quieter but I think a big part of that is the time of year people are getting geared up for the holidays, thanksgiving in two days then the craziness of the Christmas season. Also I think games in general are trending towards the smaller right now which while the RP is still there tends to make less chatter which makes places seem quieter then they really are.
      I mean there is nothing right now that approaches the number of connects that the Reach or HM even had in their heyday, but tit does seem like there are more choices.

    • RE: How much plot do people want?

      Since the have been mentioned a few times, in general saving the world plots should be avoided but I will make one exception, if you are playing in a genre where saving the world really does happen on a regular basis.
      For example if you are playing a Justice League game it would likely be a common event because in pretty much all of the comic iterations they saved the world at least once a year(even the comedy inclined Giffin-era league made with the world saving), same with the Avengers or other A-list super teams.

    • RE: The Apology Thread

      @Monogram
      I think a good part of the reason we hear about the good things less is that we talk about them less.
      Non-MUSH example, if the average person goes to a restaurant and gets good service they tend to talk about it much less then if they get bad service.
      Also the god news stuff is far less interesting as a conversation topic. Lets say Joe and Bob have a beef. If they beef continues it continues to generate 'news' it remains present and people talk about it. Joe and Bob resolve things it gets mentioned once then forgotten like most things.
      Now I do think more things are held onto then let go, not just in this hobby but in general, but not quite to the extant chatter both here and elsewhere would lead one to believe.

      Lack of cups does not equate to a lack of awesomeness.
      After all if you had to have a Cup to be awesome wouldn't that counter a lot of your Ovie case earlier?
      In a team sport lack of championships does not mean a whole lot to me concerning individuals, best example is not from hockey but from football Dan Marino never won a Superbowl, Trent Dilfer did but there should be little question on who was the better QB.

    • RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot

      Shadowrun is like any other game it is what the people at the table make it.
      I have run D+D campaigns with out a single dungeon crawl, in the Shadowrun table top I am currently in, we started out as basic runner though quickly left that behind to further our own IC goals and while we still take paying jobs we are ICly quite picky and spend almost as much time researching if we should take a job as we do doing the job. Oddly enough our must frequent employer is the DA, mostly in legal situations.
      The plot we spent the most time on is one that no one paid our chars for but was personal to the PCs.
      Of course I have the feeling I want something different out of a gaming book then Theno does. I am basically show me the world, show me the rules to interact with that world, get out of my way. I really don't care how the author intends me to play.

      @collective
      I wouldn't worry about it a whole lot, just play the character they way that feels right to you, and people will either decide to rp with you or not. Most likely related to factors completely unconnected to your characters activities.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

      I am scared, I desc pretty much the same as Tempest.
      Paragraph one is always the pretty much unchanging stuff; height, build, hair color, eyes etc
      Paragraph two is clothes. I do one general that over time slowly add others as scenes require.
      Though for the most part people do not read descs unless prompted. I have been asked what i have been wearing in scenes before since it is not something I normally pose unless it is effecting the action of the pose my normal response it, "it's in the desc." then you get the cascade of x looked at yous.
      I also tend to look at everyone as I enter a scene because I am old and set in my ways.

      These situations are where I learn that I am really not a nice person. Last time I dealt with a similar situation I found out how much I could get away with without violating noise laws and took full advantage. Three days later the neighbor was suddenly reasonable.

      @GirlCalledBlu
      So you don't want people to split from the main group and do their own thing, instead they should stay in the main camp.
      But it has been stated in the thread that the leader is a staff alt, that makes the arguments that it is not a players not being railroaded seem a bit disingenuous.

    • RE: Regarding administration on MSB

      I still don't this this as a big deal. I am likely the first to rant about unnecessary moderation.
      I don't see this as being a case of it.
      Would I have made the post as a mod? Not without someone posting something to the effect of lets do X but given that WORA the board quite a few of us long timers migrated from did have these things planed there and then executed, and such things have been mentioned hopefully jokingly in other threads, I also don't see it as a grand controversy that it was addressed as a Don't Do This post either.
