I might be the odd one but Vampire is the one game line where I prefer the NWoD version to the OWoD. The whole Sabbat vs Cam thing never really interested me. I find the political structure of the covenants more interesting and you still have the VII and the Brood to provide adventure antagonists.

RE: AD&D 2nd Ed
The 'fix' I always used for hit points was slightly different. Hit points stayed the same but instead of negative hit points they stopped at zero and any overflow was taken as damage to con. It worked fairly well. Normal healing spells would restore hit points and con was only healed though rest or the restoration spells. Since Clerics can't default to restorations just cure x wounds spells con damage it was usually not curable right away.
It works fairly well for the flavor of some wounds being minor and then others much more serious.
While this is similar to the hit point / vitality systems it also had the added effect of con damage making saves harder etc. -
RE: Sin City Chronicles
My guess is that past history has shown that a game getting handed off is much the same as a table changing dealers at a casino, a clear sign to walk away as things are about to get a whole lot worse.
While it is not always true, I can definitely see the mind set of "I signed on to play under X but now Y is in charge this sucks."
Now I don't think attacking someone on here is the right way to go about it, (at least outside of the Hog Pit) but there are a couple of folks that while I think they are a definite benefit to the hobby I would not bother playing on a came they started at least not until after I saw who it was handed off to. -
RE: Bad Actors, and Bad Behavior (extended)
Bad is going to be different based on the game for the most part, different communities have different standards. Your first list is pretty universal but for the most part of lot of the issues will most be a clash between the player and game culture.
If the game is set up where the outcome to most conflicts are negotiated than my preference for dice based resolution will conflict with that how I deal with that is what determines weather or not I am a bad player for that game. For the record my response would likely be to bounce and not look back, making me not any kind of player of the game.
I do think staff is a lot of cases is not clear about what the culture of a game is either through lack of communication or through just being out of touch with the situation down in the mud but that is an entirely different issue. -
RE: RL Anger
Honestly I tend to me more concerned about animal lives then human ones., for the most part animals are more deserving of sympathy.
Note this does not stop me from eating them, and I have zero problem with hunters who eat what they kill. -
RE: Fifth Kingdom
Totally off topic but this is one thing that bugs me, People should not say Lord of the Rings is Low magic it is not it is very high magic but the magic is rare in the world. I would consider the Sovereign Stone RPG setting (original edition not d20) to be more low magic while magic is very common in that world, literally any character can learn it, it tend to me on the low powered end of things. LoTR magic might not be common but when it shows up it shows up big.
I generally think we should describe magic in settings on a dual axis one being rarity the other being power when it shows up. For example Common Low would be Sovereign Stone like I mentioned, Uncommon High would be LoTR, Forgotten Realms would be a good example of Common High. Can't think of an Uncommon Low at the moment, maybe the Six of Swords books. -

Wait, why should everyone have these, though? People don't all have these skills. Like driving I get, imo you should be able to be fine driving a car baseline but maybe you aren't a stunt driver or a getaway driver or a street racer unless you invest in that skill.
While I agree with your thoughts completely, game designers often don't. For example with the drive skill, in OWoD days, Drive 2 was required to be able to drive a manual transmission by the skill description. So my that same skill description nearly everyone in my high school should have drive 2. I grew in a rural area where driving manual vehicles was pretty much a universal skill.

+1 for the Defenders of the Earth, it was my favorite cartoon as a child.
Also while I do not have the time to staff etc, I will look forward to more news on this project as I would play it in a heartbeat. -

What do you need to consider in turning a tabletop RPG into a Mu*?
I don't think you have to use a tabletop system but I know nothing would get me to not consider a game faster than an undocumented system.
I would not play a card or board game where I was not allowed to see the rules either. -

. I can assure people that no one is spying on players to ensure no one is TSing and no time is being spent/wasted trying to enforce this rule at the moment,
Not about the content of the rule itself, but I have to say stating you have a rule but that you are not going to actually attempt to enforce it seems kind of pointless. Any rule you are not going to enforce is not worth the effort to enact.

I love the idea of magnetic pieces on metal boards. As a person with a cat and living with allergies(to the evil tree not the cat.) I have seen the devastation an ill timed pet leap or sneeze can have on a set up game board.

RE: Make it fun for Me!
@sparks said in Make it fun for Me!:
In general, my rule of thumb for how I try to play is just "try to make the scene interesting and enjoyable for everyone involved".
This is really my goal in any scene, after all if people don't have fun enjoyable scenes with me than unless they are completely masochistic or idiotic they will quickly stop having scenes with me. (Not every scene will hit this goal but no one bats 1.000)
So while I ma a big advocate of having fun yourself you should not ignore the fun of others. It hearkens back to tabletop for me. If the GM is not having run running the game they will stop running it so make it fun for the GM too. Just like when I am running the game I try my best to make sure it is fun for the players, but if a player makes my live miserable as the GM i have zero issue telling him to leave nor leaving a game that stops being fun for me. -
RE: Retail "Horror" Stories
I worked a bit of retail the worst horror story was from one of the holiday seasons I worked at Macy's. Macy's had a lot of sales that ended at 11 am sometimes 10 the whole "doorbuster" thing. Well I was working in housewares the day of one of these sales and it was a good one, so things had been hectic til the sale ended at 11. Then the department got fairly quiet. The one lady walks in goes to one of the items on sale picks it up this is like 11:45 well after the sale is over. she heads to the check out station for the department. Normally two of us there but the other person and gone to lunch after the sale ended.
She waits behind one person and steps up, i scan it tell her the price expect to get the money and move on with my day. She has a fit that wasn't the sale price she said. I say sale ended at 11 it is now almost 12. She tried the I was in line at 11 I get the price, which is the correct policy at the time the computers were even set to give out the sale price 15 minutes after the official end to cover that. I respond with, no you just got in line behind the person who just left. He harrumphs and says, Well you can change the price. I know I could have but at the time I was annoyed by her tone and body language and she was not gonna get it for the sale price from me. I do the standard retail line of no I can't the computer won't let me. this goes back and forth for a bit. And then she wants to talk to my manager. So I call for manager of that floor, (multi-floor store each floor had and assistant manager and the store had an overall manager) assistant manager comes over talks to the lady then to me. assistant manager looks at the record of sales on the computer sees the gaps in sales after the rush from the sale ends and is like, I am sorry ma'am the sale is over. Lady still won't leave she fumes at bit and then demands to see the store manager. Now mind you this is now well past the point of time when I should be at lunch. We wait about 30 minutes for the store manage to show up, lady pacing around me and the assistant just chatting about random stuff. The other person for the department arrive and start to help the back log of other customers that started to build.
Store manager arrives. now the lady lies her ass off now she was in the store at 9 blah blah blah, Oh and I and the assistant manager were very rude. I admit I was curt during the whole time but also polite, and the assistant manager was one of the sweetest people ever. The manager then listens to what I and the assistant say and check the log for herself and is like. I ma sorry ma'am the sale appears to have been over. So lady makes a big huff and storms out, I return product to it's place.
then comes the happy ending, shortly before the end of my shift a couple hours later same lady walks in picks up the same things walks to the counter to buy it sees it is me grumbles a bit but does pay the actual price this time. -

RE: What's missing in MUSHdom?
@three-eyed-crow
To me the code base issue is not really a culture one but a cost one for me as an end user.
For me the main draw is the RP and the various bells and whistles don't matter, once a game can handle +roll <stat> and show me the result I am good with the code support. So games that I have to learn a different command structure for induce a cost (the time spent learning) with no corresponding benefit since they do not add to the main draw.
Back in the dark ages I learned the commands to play on MUSHes and at this point that is what I stick with. This is not to say anything against other code platforms but I am not going to bother to learn a new structure until there are not viable options with the old one. I am the same way with video games as well. I will be loyal to the playstation line for as long as it exists because that the the controller I know and use without thought where hand me a x-box controller and say his the A button or whatever a button on it might be called and I look at the thing confused trying to find the correct button. -

I'm just curious how they're going to do the crossovers, with LoT being in a different time, and Supergirl being in a different reality.
Well neither time travel nor reality hopping are strangers to superhero stories. From what I heard they will keep the big crossover events to one a season and that seems doable. After all we had Flash pop over to Supergirl last year.
My guess for this year is that it will be facilitated by Zoom. He is being built as a big villain and time traveler on LoT and he has the obvious connection to Flash. It should be too hard to explain him dragging in SG with some mumbo jumbo about his method of time travel breaking down barriers between the realities, Arrow and already appeared this season in LoT and can be drug in via connection there or with Flash and there you go.
Note before people say anything about spoilers I know nothing that is just logical conjecture.
