I have to agree, I do think this year will be Dubs and Cavs part four, I do want more playoff drama to get there than last year though and I do think we will get that.
One of the big reasons I like the Russ extension is that it can be used to try and convince George to stay around.
Yes I know he has been very adamant about going to the Lakers once he hits free agency but Russ is there for the foreseeable future and Melo for two more years after this one. If they make a respectable play off run, (I will define that as winning the first round and taking the second round to 6 or more games.) They might convince him to stay, after all LA is improving but they still likely miss the playoffs.
If the thunder keep George then they have a legit "Big 3" to add pieces to, Presti has done an excellent job of rebuilding the Thunder after the exit of Durant when I lot of people, including me, thought it was a death knell for the team. It would not surprise me to see him getting another piece in the off season given how well he has done in this one.

@ThatGuyThere Do you think the Rockets are a better team than the Thunder this year?
I am really not sure. Right now in the west I put the Warriors at one and the Spurs at 2, and I think the Rockets and Thunder are gonna be fighting for 3, I think it will come down to which of the teams learns to work together first.
I think the thunder have more total talent but I think the Rockets are a bit deeper. If you make me make a call right now, I would say the Thunder edge into the 3rd spot for the playoffs but I think it will be one of those races that comes down to the wire. In the playoffs I think who ever is in the three has a shot at the Spurs but the team stuck in four will maybe get a game off the Warriors.
Oddly enough before the extension I would definitely have picked the Rockets over the Thunder but I think the extension will have a stabilizing effect on the team.Edit to add: I have not used that many words to say "I don't know." since college.

RE: The Basketball Thread
While this is not as big as some of the other news this off season, it has to count as at least sorta big news.
Russell Westbrook has signed an extension with the Thunder which baring a trade will keep him there for 6 more seasons. While I am not convinced they will win a championship anytime soon this at least keeps them from turning into a disaster since he showed that last year with a very average supporting cast he can pull them into hte playoffs. -

The same with men. Being big and buff or lean and lithe does not mean you're healthy -- or even as strong as you could be. Pro-wrestlers look really awesome, but most of them are rotting or broken on the inside (not emotionally).
Sadly that should be not just emotionally. I love pro wrestling but it is a mental and physical meat grinder for most involved.

RE: For Want of a Stat System
I second Faraday on that, I made a human ganger that focused on melee and pistols with a butt load of Krav Maga maneuvers and cyber and was the scary guy of our group. Yes, a psychical adept could likely have done better but I was taking out enemies at a rate of 2 or 3 a round.

Chummer for both 4th and 5th can do Karma build for c-gen, tools tab, options, then "characters and printing" has the manner of cgen able to be set to either buildpoints, Karma, or for 5th priority as well. -
RE: For Want of a Stat System
Chargen is by far the most wonky part of cgen. After that is is basically NWoD with d6 where five and six are successes.
For C-gen I would honestly just tell folks to use Chummer and than post a copy of that file to the wiki for staff to ok. -

If you are looking for crunch have you thought about ShadowRun?
It has plenty of crunch in all four of those areas, and runs a bit faster than most heavy crunch systems. -
RE: How much plot do people want?
I don't see aspirations as necessarily needing to be resolved. The one time I made a character for 2ed ed, I instead made them the driving forces of my character.
Some were pretty short term some longer, but one was most definitely never going to be resolved. I was playing a ghoul and one of the aspirations was to be a valued servant to the vampire. I claimed beats for it in scenes where I both succeeded in serving well or learned from failures to accomplish what I was told, but resolution at least for that aspiration would not have been possible really baring death of the PC or vamp in question. -
RE: Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?
@Wizz
Not in a coded object way but WoD games have done similar in notes, since the WoD books in places have had significant variation between different handguns for example, that the type of gun would be noted and the game stats would be noted. My personal preference is somewhere in the middle, I would not want one set of shotgun or handgun stats but instead of eleventy billion real life models instead do things more along the line, light handguns do x, medium do y, and heavy do z, and a short list of what would be in each. Divide shotguns, rifles etc along similar likes. Just from logic a 9mm should not do the same damage as a .50 caliber but I don't think for game purposes there needs to be seven variations on a 9mm.

RE: Good TV
I was talking about Orville with someone on a game and they said, "It is TNG with toilet humor." They meant it as a critique but in a lot of ways I agree with the statement but mean it as a positive.
Discovery for me was just underwhelming. It was not bad really, I watched the first ep on the CBS broadcast and if I could watch the others for free I would but nothing about the first ep drew me in enough to buy a service I was not already signed up for to watch the rest of it.
If they put it out on DVD I would likely pick it up if it was on sale.Orville has consistently been entertaining for the three eps put out and while I am not sure I would pay for the privilege of watching it, I thought the first episode of Orville did a lot more to make me want to see more than the first ep of Discovery.

After seeing the first ep of the new Trek, I stand by my earlier thoughts that Orville is the best Trek I have seen since DS9.

RE: How much plot do people want?
Since the have been mentioned a few times, in general saving the world plots should be avoided but I will make one exception, if you are playing in a genre where saving the world really does happen on a regular basis.
For example if you are playing a Justice League game it would likely be a common event because in pretty much all of the comic iterations they saved the world at least once a year(even the comedy inclined Giffin-era league made with the world saving), same with the Avengers or other A-list super teams. -
RE: RL Anger
Never had true chicken and waffles though I did try the Popeye's limited time thing with the waffle batter as breading and it was pretty good. Not a big chicken fan in general though, but the mention of pulled pork on waffles sounds yummy as hell.

RE: The Basketball Thread
I just can't help but feel the actual season will be pretty lackluster. Off season has been fun but we are likely looking at the same finals match up as the last 3 years. the Warriors and the Cavs will have a tougher time getting there (granted since they lost a combined one playoff game before the finals last year an easier time would scarcely be possible) but I think it is another march to the inevitable once the play starts.

RE: The Basketball Thread
I think it was an odd deal all around none of the pieces except the draft pick seem to really fit in New York either. Though I give a slight upgrade to the Thunder, Kanter is a huge defensive liability to the point he hardly saw the floor in the playoffs last season. (9.1 minutes per game)
All in All is don't see this mattering a whole lot I would still rank the Thunder at best 4th in the west and not seeing them get by the Warriors. -
RE: The Hockey Thread
Yeah I did get my Bowman's mixed up there.
I see Bowman and automatically think Scotty. -
RE: The Board Game Thread
@Cupcake
<grins> I thought I was the only one who semi-RPed while playing board games. I tended to play Britain and I would drive the Russian player crazy since I would never move the fighter from UK to help defend Russia, because my logic was Churchill would never have done that.
