...And then by 2000 A.D. people started drawing penises on everything.

To echo Lord Belh you could likely change the A.D. to a BC there and be very accurate.
The excavation of Pompei has shown us a bunch of ancient graffiti most of it is porn and dirty jokes, and don't even get me started on Mesopotamian fertility idols, true they were designed to attempt to produce a result not for art but here you go.they certainly did not lack graphic depiction of the human body.

@Lotherio said in What RPG SYSTEM do you want to play on a Mu*?:

On a Mu*, I want simple mechanics that makes for quick resolution and doesn't distract from role-playing.

I don't mind simple to use as long as there is enough meat to it to make the system worthwhile interacting with. For example FS3 while simple to use also has enough depth to feel like choices made in building a character matter.
But then I am also a heretic that puts the G on equal footing as the RP even on MUs.

I definitely feel that he system and setting should match up with the same feel but since setting wasn't mentioned really in the initial question I went with the system I most want to play more of.

Cortex, I would prefer regular Cortex to Cortex+ but I like them both.
I really like the way Cortex handles skills really appeals to me. (d4 and d6 are really basic skill such as firearms but then to get to a d8 or higher you have to specialize but you can specialize in multiple things. For example you could have science d6, biology d8 chemistry d10 for example.

I'd be willing to play on a 7th Sea game.

So off topic but I would dearly love any 7th Sea game not focused on pirates, or even set in a coast city so Pirate folks count get their pirate on and the folks like me who would rather be Three Musketeers or the Scarlet Pimpernel could get our swerve on as well.

A sentient Cosmic Cube was involved.

I have not been reading anything Marvel for a few years but as soon as the storyline started I said it would cosmic cube shenanigans. After all Marvel has done but Cap and Falcon being mind controlled by the Cube before.
I thought the story was lame from the beginning not because of Cap is a Anzi but because there was one glaringly obvious way that it was going to flow.

I think a quote by Thomas Paine is particularity apt in a discussion like this. He is one of the people t the forefront of the American Revolution and with the timing of the publication of Common Sense someone whose contribution to it was absolutely vital to success but he is also someone who no one builds monuments in honor of.
Sometimes agitation is absolutely necessary to accomplish growth but no one ever celebrates the agitators.

MUSoapbox has definitely improved as a place to discuss things compared to WORA but I would be lying if I didn't say that WORA was a hell of a lot more entertaining to read.

In my opinion MUSoapbox is a definite good.
There needs to be a place to talk about games not run by the people that run games where posters can say what they want.
Now it is true that most commentary is negative that that is basic human nature. Think about it in other things, if someone goes to a restaurant and have a bad experience they are far more likely to tell people and tell more people than if they have a good meal, so I would bet a truly open BBoard open to any discussion on restaurant would like devolve into mostly negativity. I know this is the case with reality TV shows except on boards where the mods have decides to purposely crack down on negativity. (Huge Big Brother fan) For Pro wrestling it is mostly the same. Comics boards tend negative to the point where someone like me who was a regular reader and semi-regular poster on WORA would say wow these places might be too toxic for me.
Not sure this says much about us as a species but from what i have seen across my interests is that if you want truly free discussion on the internet you will tend to get a truck load of negativity with it. For me I will gladly make the trade of of dealing with the negativity to get the unfettered discussion.

@Arkandel said in Comic book diversity:

Do you think the turn to female and ethnic characters is what's hurting sales?

In a word, no. In more words, Of course not people will buy good comics regardless of the characters gender or race, hell I am pale white man and I bought Christopher Priest's run on Black Panther because it was good not because of the race of the character. I stopped buying the series during the Hudlin run because the book became not good.
While I have no doubt Marvel sales are slumping but I think the most likely reason is one as old as business, the competition got tougher. I stopped buying new comics all together in 2011. I recently started back up because I heard good things about DC rebirth I enjoyed what i read so I started picking up some titles both DC and Marvel, I have kept buying DC not the Marvel ones, mainly for two reason DC has been more enjoyable and higher quality and two most DC titles are 2.99 most marvel titles are 3.99. I know it is only a dollar but lets say you buy 4 titles a week, (a fairly small number compared to most collectors I know , during my peak buying periods I was hitting about 20 a month and even right before I went cold turkey I was at about 12 a week) that dollar an issue becomes $16 or$20 depending on how many Wednesdays that month has. Over a year that dollar per title ass up to just over $200. Now since I can afford money for comics I am obviously not broke but still to get me to shell out extra money for a product, any product, you have to show me how it is better than the competition. Right now at least when it comes to comics Marvel is not. (Other forms of media especially movies it definitely is so while I do not read Marvel comics I will continue to attend their films.)

    • RE: RP Ice Breakers

This is one reason I am pro character wiki, a quick glance can often give at least the start of what kind of situation would both people likely to be in.

Of course I also have very little patience for the what should we do dance, both in RL and on-line variations so I will typically throw out a couple of ideas, if both of those get shot down then I leave it up to the other person to throw something out if that doesn't happen I just don't RP with them and find another person.

I think the OP means the old Mayfair games DC Heroes not the newer one since the Mayfair version is the one in use on DC rebirth which he is the game he mentioned in connection to it.

@ZombieGenesis said in Poll: RPG System for OC Hero Game:

FASERIP / ICONS: I include the newer ICONS here as it is close enough to FASERIP to be almost a second edition of the game.

Slight geeky nit pick, ICONS would have to be the third addition. Marvel had two already Basic in 1894 then Advanced in 1986 or 87.

I voted DC Heroes but honestly Faserip/ icons would work just as well for me. Those are the two are my favorites all time for superhero systems.
Hero System I like but c-gen is math heavy, Heroes Unlimited I like as well but you will have a lot of people not liking palladium in general as well as not likely the level based nature.
M+M has the core of a good game but has too many one punch fights for my tastes. If you two players following the books advice of having attacks and damage save at PL then each hit as a 25 percent chance (a roll of a 1 - 5) of resulting in the end of a fight, which means on average in in four fights between equal opponents will end in one hit. Not clue as far to the realism of that but it definitely does not fit the genre as in any medium superhero fights tend to be rather drawn out affairs if the combatants or roughly equal in power.

@Meg said in How do you keep OOC lounges from becoming trash?:
To me the difference is a private room is on the grid so it should adhere to IC logic. I see no problem with someone wanting a private scene using an anywhere room temp room or what ever but for something connected to the grid at large I do want it to fit the world. I don't care about them RPing privately but I do care about the grid making logical sense from an IC perspective.
Now I am perfectly fine with anyone who wants to make a private room having one that makes IC sense. And I even have one character out of the four, I play that has one. For him it makes sense ICly and OOCly, others to not because for whatever reason it does not (usually OOC not wanting to build it unless I will be scening there once a week.)
However I do not see private OOC rooms as a replacement for an OOC area, if someone wants one as just a place ot park a bit and wants to go through the effort of building one for that purpose that is fine with me., but don't try to sell me on that being a replacement for an OOC lounge or quiet room because for me they fulfill a completely different purpose.

First place I saw a quiet room that wasn't also basically a freezer for abandoned characters was Haunted Memories. Though that was right after my working second shift imposed vacation from mushing so it might have become a thing before that.

    • RE: How do you keep OOC lounges from becoming trash?

      @Meg
Well then back to the topic of this thread instead have having on grid a room like bunk 37-a that exists only to contain a bit, why not have ooc lounge or ooc quiet room that do the exact same thing.

I have never said anyone has to rp with me so nice attempt at a strawman. I am fine with them having their scene where ever, in fact I have often said on these boards people should never feel obligated to rp with anyone they didn't want to. I would much rather have OOC room to park my bit in than a private IC room unless private IC room both makes scene from an IC perspective and will be likely to see enough RP to make the hassle of building it worthwhile from an OOC perspective.
