    • RE: SerenityMUSH - Discussion

A reset would really do the game good I think.

Erase the pirate fiasco and all the other terrible displays of favoritism and issue with dinosaur characters and old equipment that got grand fathered in after rule changes.

Maybe make credits a little easier to come by so people don't have to literally spend 24 hours a day doing trading code for peanuts and spend months/years saving up for decent equipment. Also would present a chance to redo that skill list. 7 (7!) subskills for Run may be a little much.

Don't limit the cool ships so much? I remember there was only X number of type Y ship allowed in the game.. and almost all of them were owned by characters that hadn't logged in years. years. I started on Serenity maybe 5 years ago and there are some ships still parked where they were when I first logged in.

I started playing there after the worse of the staff favoritism, but caught a glimpse of it when Inara returned to throw Favor around. In that time between the game really was pretty awesome. A lot of that had to do with a great group of players running PRPs and the like, but the theme is good, a lot of the systems in place are pretty good.. it certainly has potential.

@Prototart if within the first five poses you weren't either doing a helicopter or walking funny to get the boys unstuck from your leg probably were doing it wrong.

Rare and terrifying really depends on the setting you choose. Tar Valon based female channelers will be common place. In the Borderlands they may be rare but will be well respected instead of scary. Cairhein and Andor similar, though maybe not with the same reverence. Amador and Tear... less receptive.

Personally, unless the game is in the time of the books or beyond I wouldn't allow male channelers at all as a playable concept and save them for NPC Plot purposes.

It really depends on what gane you're wanting to play theme wise and code wise.

If you're wanting late books level channeling with all the fancy weaves and powers that's going to be heavy custom no matter what you go with.

early books/new spring time would probably be good with Spirit Lake type system with little modification.

political Game then Arx may be the way to go.

What Rucket said. from ease of install, use and modification Ares really is awesome. There are some quirks in not a fan of but unless someone has a lot of time on their hands Ares would be the way to go even if you make your own stat/combat system

Yeah, that's a design choice but "known weaves" like fireball, firebar, rolling rings, healing, shielding, etc are pretty much a direct sub in for "known spells"

    • RE: Wheel of Time

I had had a similar idea but just haven't had time to loop back to it yet (https://musoapbox.net/topic/1771/wheel-of-time-mu-sh-x?page=1). There's lots of good discussion in there if you haven't read it yet.

system wise I am curious to see what Spirit Lake does with their magic system in FS3 as at cursory look it seems like it could be adapted to channeling pretty well.

Setting wise you need to ask yourself what the setting is defined as for you. Book 1 is a different setting than book 3 which is differrnt than book 10. Ariel, SeanchN, Asha'man, dreadlords, power level of channelers, all these are affected by timeline choice.

    • RE: Fate Development Thread

I think it's really just a matter of personal preference. I personally way way preferred DF RPG over DFA. DFA just didn't grab me at all and lost my interest pretty quick when I was looking through it. I don't know how those two compare to Fate and Fate Accelerated but I'm not sure there is a best way

    • RE: Fate Development Thread

I was one of those DS players that rarely made GMed scenes or got much in the way of votes so I loved that I could still advance with time as my characters story progressed. I think a limit on max points would have work to stop some of the dinosaur affect and maybe just everything else has to go to Fate points. I dunno.

      @misadventure said in RL Anger:

How the fuck does a company full of BSNs, RNs, etc not offer dental insurance?

Sometimes dental insurance just plan sucks. High premiums and the amount they actually pay out is piddly. I worked one place where the HR benefits person even admitted that she didnt use the dental insurance offered because it was cheaper to just pay out of pocket, even with their kid in braces, than pay the insurance premium.

    • RE: What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.

It's seems odd to argue over how mu access from a corporate environment would be allowed but every commercial firewall I can think of is deny by default for traffic. unless some enterprising system admin decided to put in a rule to allow everything (which absolutely does happen, but that's for the RL things I love for people me employeed) they would have to punch holes specifically for the ports that MUs use. Port 80 and 443 are virtually always allowed through, sometimes limited through a proxy and/or web filtering, but unless you're a company with strictly no outside web access those will be allowed.

And again the example of a hotel. A few big chains only allow 80, 443, IPSec ports and a few other protocols to transverse their guest networks.
