@derp said in What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.:

Many of the people in this hobby use SSH because companies block web interfaces that are labelled as a game, but Telnet / SSH is so old that nobody even bothers trying to shut it down anymore.

This is just.. very incorrect. Any company doing any sort of security will be blocking ssh and all the ports MUs frequently use by default.

Providing access through http/https is the better option by far. every were, from free WiFi at McDonalds to a hotel room allows those ports through. a web filter may block the site, but that's a different beast all together.

    • RE: General Video Game Thread

For all the well warranted complaining about it my prediction is that it will go on to be Blizzards 2nd most profitable game after WoW. It's breaking into a new market (Asia) with micro transactions that will eventually dwarf what they could get for PC game sales.

I admit it was a poor generalization. It's more that some outspoken posters given the impression of wide spread disdain.

Personally I think FATE is probably one of the best systems for collaborative MU

I wouldn't let FATE/FAE games bother you too much. there have been at least four that I'm aware of and I know three of those lasted for at least a couple years each. They may not be massive 100 character games but they were health 10-20 characters over st least a dozen players.

People here hate fate but this is a very very small sample size of the MUing population.

and for what it is worth you absolutely can get near instant feed back on your code in Evennia/Arxcode.

Just edit the code on your server, save the file without even exiting the editor, and on your client logged in to the server do an @reload before testing.

I think it's telling when the best appearance of a character was his cameo on someone else's show. (Iron Fist in Luke Cage season 2)

OCs are allowed. In the case of this thread you'd be creating an OC for the new House that would only go to Roster if you dropped them as a character.

Figured I'd throw this out there since I just put an update about the TV show too.

Still not dead! But kinda back burner now since it's just me. In the mean time I am helping code another project that will likely end up sharing a lot of code with this place so it is still being worked on, but only on the back end side. Theme, building, etc will come later.

Looks like Amazon has officially ordered the Wheel of Time as a new series while the rumor is they have dropped Conan.

Eh.. I'll be surprised if it does.

Most MUers either a) haven't heard of MSB b) don't follow MSB c) won't care anyways

    • RE: Poll: Fantasy Earth 2.0

I think I am having trouble wrapping my head around how this:

@thenomain said in Poll: Fantasy Earth 2.0:

And this is where I started. A “The Walking Dead” motif to people who have to survive in such diverse locales.

      gets to this:

Fedoras and tommy guns, hill giants in vests, flapper goblins.

The tommy guns are more obvious. They're a tool laying around to use.. but the fashion and society? If all those people are gone why would the goblins, giants and orcs emulate it?

    • RE: Poll: Fantasy Earth 2.0

To me noir isn't really about the time period as much as the people and society... and all those would be gone. It would be orcs and elves with radio and Tommy guns instead of iPhones and ar-15s
