Quick Matches in Overwatch are Hit-or-Miss and you'll have asshole Hanzo players skipping around doing fuck-all to ruin your match while you're defense team. My best play of the game was basically using Lucio to bounce a bunch of people off the map with a single attack and then boosting the team using his special, all the while I get a third kill on accident.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
@lithium Do you like feeling perpetually offended when someone makes a general, but truthful, statement? Congratulations on being an exception, and fighting off the advances. I mean, it wasn't exclusive to GD - Griffons had lots of that going on, too, for all that it was the 'egalitarian and polytheistic' rival clan to the Dragons.

@deadculture I don't remember the details of the character trying it. Some noble. But it was right in the main, public area of the Temple. She was sitting in the pews praying, he sat next to her, and a pose or two later had a hand under her dress trying to... well, I'll leave it there, before I went scrambling.
sigh
I'm pretty sure the noble privilege shit started during the Taleo era. Of course, trust Gold Dragon nobles to take it to fucking eleven.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
@kitteh Oh god. The Inquisitors. It was the Inquisitors, wasn't it?
There's another horrible one about that: Rasmus took some woman 'for confession' downstairs and ICly raped her.
And of course there's a few other rape stories coming from Firan but did you expect otherwise?

@deadculture I'm sure if you had a player saying OMG YOU MUST TS and you went nopenope ftb and they were haranguing you in OOC and you raised a fuss about it... in the moment, staff would side with you and perhaps even discipline the player (assuming it wasn't a staffalt).
That's not the same thing as the expectation not being there, particularly re: 'wasting' Dove slots as I mentioned.
I (blessedly) never got the long term Dove experience, but even in my short time, I had people attempt explicit sexual stuff in public rooms with almost no warning, let alone any kind of check or chance to pause or FTB out of that. That was against policy too, but I didn't get the feeling it was culturally unusual on the game.
Well, no, it wasn't. There have been instances of 'noble privilege' taken inside open, public stores, poker pavillions in Festival (this one by a staff alt), and a number of other atrocious actual noble rape stories that are way too numerous to recount here.
If there was an 'expectation' for Dove TS, it was mostly veiled from people who were not Doves, but I can see where that might have been the case.
@Faceless I wish that gif existed back then.

especially after the magic rape wardrobe episode
I want storytime.
Some dude named Tioran had this level II character on the Bear Clan and OOCly he was quite a bit of a creeper. He'd try to force whores to TS him despite their OOC refusal, and at one point he had his character, I forget which it was, but it was a Sadin bastard, I think Andreas, hold a girl at swordpoint and abduct her, shoved her into a wardrobe, wherein he kept her inside and raped her repeatedly.
Then he got executed and castrated for it, ofc, but he had a string of problematic behavior patterns that just had staff realize they had a more overt problem on their hands and so they arranged to siteban the guy off their game.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
@kitteh To be fair, FTB was mostly respected. The one guy that tried to force TS was banned, especially after the magic rape wardrobe episode (you may credit @Sparks for that terminology).

@deadculture I'm hoping we can all agree as a board that nobody should ever, under any circumstances, be that egregiously OOCly gross again.
Like, if we can't even collectively get past that dazzlingly low a bar, it's time to take up the fiddle, 'cause Rome's a-burnin' bright.
Honestly, Firan could turn a relatively decent person into a rabid monster within 3 to 4 months in there.
A lot of us, apparently, including former staffers, came to this realization as soon as the Firan spell was broken. It was a bad toxic environment to be in, and if you wanted to stay, you had to adapt. Of course, you adapted for the worse, not for the best.
But really, if there's a manual of how tos of proper RPing and/or being a decent MUSHing person somewhere, it has to have some Firan examples of how not to.
There were some good things, of course; they kept people on the game. But they weren't enough, and they shouldn't ever justify the level of abuse that went on there.
And while I'm actually alright with the use of offensive language in poses, etc., it should probably be conveyed in a way that won't seem like an outright attack to the person behind the screen. But that takes a level of finesse, or at least, knowing who you're playing with. So you can probably base the contents of your pose on your scene partner if they're a known quantity, and settle for something subtler if you don't know them.
But yeah... @bored's right. At least one person there might have been a predator.

Actually, Firan... sigh. I remember the 'only RL women can play prostitutes' thing mentioned long ago. (I never played there, but it appeared to be confirmed by multiple sources, and was not just some random rumor.)
I think we can all agree that is a disturbingly gross example of sexism on all possible levels, though.
No, it's true. That was a hard requirement to play a whore.

I've been on an European music kick lately. Any French/German/Spanish rock bands people would recommend that sing in their native languages?

I went back and found the thread. Hilariously, the first post it went to was me downvoted to -2 for calling Cirno a troll and @Arkandel upvoted to 5 telling me 'just because he's a troll, doesn't mean he's wrong.'
So yeah, SJW MSB was in general largely supportive of Cirno's unfounded banshee wailing about nonexistent racism.
I think it's silly for people not want to tackle racism, sexism, any other kind of prejudice in a historical or semi-historical setting. I think a detective who would only use politically correct terms when they're a noir-themed asshole loose cannon would just be sad and something would feel amiss.
Can you imagine Scarface without the slurs? Can you imagine The Godfather without the hard language? I can't. That's why I don't play in games that are sanitized in this manner, but am glad they exist for people who think it's a necessity.
I just hope it doesn't become the absolute norm.

RE: How should IC discrimination be handled?
Realms Adventurous, the Fifth Kingdom both did away with race/gender discrimination. One of them even had one of the landholding NPCs be of a different ethnicity than 'Briton' and he was kind of a big deal stat-wise, ICly.
Of course, you still had to contend with 'those damn Saxons invading our land' or whatever, but that's every war, ever, unless you're fighting monsters and not men.
Oh, and the 8th Sea, as has been mentioned, is pretty equal in regards to how shipcrews are rostered. I don't think you'll find much in the way of gender discrimination there, at least functionally speaking.

@sunny I think claiming that this is 100% limited to Arx is a bit misleading. It's just a visible example because it's large (and because it's a successor, in spirit, playerbase and staff, to a game that was racist and sexist turned up to 11).
For instance, we had/have (I dunno if the reboot is still running) the two Arthurian games that both made a pretty strong point of removing any kind of gender imbalance. This is despite the fact that these games were rooted in eras and genres of literature dripping with sexism and that it was even part of the game mechanics/rules (at least for the first game, using Pendragon). Not shockingly, it actually caused some non-trivial problems (for instance, landed women were thematically extremely rare, so they were mechanically worth more points to marry - but that gets turned on its head a bit when anyone can CG one). That game also had someone screaming about racism too, although granted it was 90% Cirno so who cares.
100% Cirno

An Invisible Path Hawkwood. He started so much shit, and when his liege turned hostile to him, he took to undermining her plans. It was an amazing plotline, overall, even with his missteps.

He should learn different accents than 'standard Catalonian' or wherever the fuck it is he came from.

Ryan Gosling is a real human bean and a real hero.
Cate Blanchett is just the human equivalent of Guile Theme Goes With Everything.
