@Ghost Thanks for explaining how I'm obviously wrong and/or lying about how I feel about my game and other open games. I'm much better informed now.

@krmbm No, he makes logins named jizzum and 'c-word' and the like. Usually logs on and right off, but sometimes lurks to make noise. Uses vpn's so I can't really whack-a-mole. Been at it for the better part of a year now. Very. Special.
That sucks. I'm sorry.
It's probably not the same troll. Honestly, this one isn't actually "getting around things" the way he wants to pretend he is.
@GirlCalledBlu - He didn't really do anything on GH itself till after we banned him. His concept was just stupid and when @bear_necessities called him out on it, he got all hostile, so we just decided that he needed to not play here. That's when the trolling started. But here's his pseudo-creepy PMs he sent me here:
Z ZombieKerouac
So I understand you are having an issue?krmbm krmbm
I am?Z ZombieKerouac
With a player who is upset with you and so not being the nicest of people.krmbm krmbm
Oh. shrug It happens. Just a pest. We're coping.Z ZombieKerouac
Unfortunately Lynn can only do so much. But if you want I can help with the issue.
And coping? You've had to lock down guest access and make it so every roster character requires a application.
So how is that coping?
krmbm krmbm
Yeah, but it's not a big deal. The bugs are fixable in Ares, and it's only temporary.Z ZombieKerouac
They aren't bugs and you know it.There are ways even if these /bugs/ are fixed that a person can still bypass the block and ban.
And still claim your rostered characters or force it to where guest logins need to be disabled.
The question becomes, Which is the easier path past this. letting faraday sort through bugs that aren't really bugs.. And then seeing that the issue remains.. Or trying to fix it through other means.
krmbm krmbm
I think we're okay for now. The bugs (Faraday's words, not mine) will get patched. In almost a year... this is the first time we're run into something like this. Worst case scenario, I can ban the person at the server. So thanks for your willingness to assist, but we've got it.
Z ZombieKerouac
Sure you can.Except you can't because I know the work arounds Karma.
krmbm krmbm
Awesome. Take care.Z ZombieKerouac
I will leave the game alone. If you and bear sit down and actually talk like adults.Honestly, Had you two done that last night rather than simply throwing away the blacklist and banning me. I wouldn't have near the issues I do with you and your game.
After all.. A year is a long time to wait for a fix. Having a ten minute discussion maybe twenty? Far less time and far less trouble.
Z ZombieKerouac
And all your rostered characters are mine again, And back as a guest -le gasp- -

Ares and Rhost both have a proxy blocking feature that will block players from known proxy sites (using a list graciously managed by @Ashen-Shugar).

RE: Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey)
@ZombieGenesis said in Gauging Interest in a new Erotic RP MU* (with anonymous survey):
Even if the focus isn't on erotic RP(though it certainly could be) I'd just like to see more games that don't shame players for engaging in erotic RP. A lot of games nowadays have policies in place that amount to "do it but don't post logs about it or discuss it in any way" and I think that's a shame.
I don't think this is meant to be shaming anyone? Like, I'm sure once upon a time the NO TINYSEX rule was because it was disgusting and bad and we should all be ashamed of ourselves, but nowadays? We have children that read over our shoulders, we check logs at work, we share a computer with everyone else in the family, etc.
It's not shaming the person that RPed it. It's just an extra layer of protection to be sure nobody clicks through something that someone forgot to tag NSFW.

RE: Wheel of Time MU(SH|X)
Just at a quick glance: I recommend that you create your own wiki pages for key thematic elements (Saidin, Saidar, Amyrlin Seat, etc) rather than linking to the fandom wiki.
I've been watching the wiki get built since the game turned up on the Ares list, and I'm glad to see it getting beefed up with more of your own theme files, but those outside links should be supplemental information - if people want to know more. If you're selling the game as "no canon knowledge needed," then your wiki needs to support that.

I made an attempt to start an Expanse game around two years ago and absolutely no one was interested
Two years ago was pretty much as far back as the beginning of time so you might find a different audience nowadays.

RE: A Regency MU (Conceptual)
@auspice Not for nothing, but if @Pyrephox's perfectly reasonable questions, phrased politely and inquiringly, made you feel torn down? Running a game is gonna be brutal.

RE: The Desired Experience
Pretty much what @Pyrephox said, just add in "lots of lolz & angst, please."

RE: MU Things I Love
When I woke up this morning, a plot I've been fiddling with figured itself out, and it made me happy, and now I'm stoked to play it with my friends.

Because that's not what Zuck is there for.
I just think equating "running a MUSH" to "running Facebook" is a reach. They're both online communities; that's about where the similarities end.
The reason you're not asking for help from the "game owner of Discord" is because you don't have access to that person because they are running a business that caters to a massive audience.
You are running a MUSH with 12 people on it.
You need to treat it that way.

If you don't, the person being stalked will leave, so you're choosing to have the stalker on your game over the player who was already there being unproblematic. Have fun with that, I guess!
This is exactly what happened on GH. Sutton quit. Ruiz stuck around.
@Derp must have had different experiences.

It's really coming across like @Derp wouldn't believe you if you told him you were being stalked unless you have some kind of "lol hi found you!!!!! stalking you again!" log of the person.

I'd need something more concrete to go off of.
Case in point.

RE: MU Things I Love
Just wanted to throw a thanks to @L-B-Heuschkel for being cool. The MUSH world is full of weird gray areas, and a concern I brought to them is definitely in the gray. I appreciate the simple, straightforward solution (and not calling me a kooky nutter when I'm being one).

RE: TinyMUX: How to set default player attributes?
Unless TinyMUX is hugely different from MUSH, it will use the child's attribute.
In your example, the child's setting of 0 should be respected.

@auspice said in Hello MSBites! Grade your administrators.:
But I'd want other Staff on the game to be able to post, too, y'know?
And it to not just be one single big BLAH of a post.
This is pretty much what RPG-D (http://rpg-directory.com/index.php) does. It seems to work for them.

RE: Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU
@faraday said in Calaveras: Adult Fiction Drama MU:
So what is the actual drama? Are there any plots or just hanging out?
It's still pretty new, with (I think) most of us still getting our feet under us and figuring out our characters, so it's mostly hanging out right now.
There's a group running some criminal stuff, and a forest fire, and there was a drive-by yesterday.
But it's mostly fluff at the moment. Fun fluff, but fluff.

RE: Regarding administration on MSB
@faraday said in Regarding administration on MSB:
Which is the majority? I honestly don't know. I do think that pointing to "well hog pit has more posts" is not really a valid benchmark of what the activity could be if the board had a better reputation across the community and more people weren't afraid of being piled on for posting a dissenting opinion.
We could argue that we don't know what the activity could be if the board theme was rainbow unicorns with three heads made out of chainsaws.
What we know is that the people here use the Hog Pit more than any other forum. Invalidating actual statistics because they don't agree with your side of the argument is a pretty shitty way to argue.

RE: What's out there now and what has been attempted? A codebase discussion.
I think the way Ares is going is about the only way we're ever going to really "modernize" M*s. Yes, switching from MUSH/MUX coding to a real language is nifty, but it's nifty for us, the existing players. It doesn't really help the hobby become any more appealing to people who haven't been doing it for years.
Eventually, just based on the Ares wish list, you'll be able to do everything on the web that you can do on the MUSH itself. Already, you can create a character, send it through CharGen, get it approved, (chat on channels the whole time) and start roleplaying without ever logging in to the MUSH.
And you're doing it prettily, not just punching the commands in through a telnet window embedded in a web-page. "Here's the box where I put my description, and here's the submit button, and here's + button to raise a stat, and here's the - button to lower it."
Once we reach the point that you really can do everything you can do from the MUSH and still use your client, the gradual shift away from clients will be a lot easier to accomplish. Whether this happens via Ares or something else as user-friendly to the end user - not the coders - is still up in the air.
But trying to rush it is pointless. It was only 2 years ago that games opened without any web presence at all. Baby steps.

RE: Valorous Dominion
You can also raise everything but size down the road.
Since all characters are coming out of chargen with the same limitations, at least you know everyone is going to be in roughly the same place: they all kinda suck at one thing so they can be awesome at something else.
Maybe your tough-guy starts out kinda ugly, but eventually learns that red is actually his color, and raises his appearance~
Anyway, I've got two characters here, have had a couple of fun scenes on each. Although I agree that the points are a little limiting out of Chargen, I was able to make two characters that are pretty true to my original concepts out of the points I was given.
The wiki is a mess, and there are a few things broken on the game (+glance, +help finger says you can set things in the finger fields but you can't, etc.), but the staff are super responsive, quick to fix things or implement suggestions, prompt on answering questions, and very friendly.
