    • RE: Celebrities that are Dead To Us

@aria I feel you there. When my sister and I went to the cops over something that happened to us, they threatened us with slander and perjury charges instead of doing their fucking job.

I would like to think things have changed for the better since the late 80's, but then I wake up.

@auspice If it was a flex driver (most likely) then they will be knocked for it, if they get more than 5 missing packages then they will be fired.

It is exceedingly odd that you're not getting the item re-sent to you. Amazon is usually very good at just replacing items that are lost in shipping or delivered wrongly.

@Arkandel I am /really/ happy with the way they went with Punisher, it could have been just pure ultra-violence but there is a ton of emotional drama involved all around on the show. The hardships involved on personal levels, etc.

Let alone the whole Veteran angle they have focused on.

      Really. Really. Happy.

@ganymede I have been considering trying for Grifter maybe, but I am not as familiar with him in DC as I was in Wildstorm.

    • RE: Reasons why you quit a game...

#1 reason I quit a game: Staff don't do their job.

Staff need to be as impartial as possible, follow and enforce the rules equally, and make sure everyone is held accountable.

I don't care about presentation, just do your job. If you're an asshole staff, I do not care, as long as you are fair and do the three above.

    • RE: Savage Worlds Rifts

RIFT's as a /setting/ is one of my favorite settings of all time, once you take out the insanity of the Splugorth, what kind of resources they have, and how anyone could keep them in check to just Atlantis on RIFT's Earth.

SavageWorld's is a system I /want/ to learn, but I don't have a TT group to really try it out with right now, and the book... my god... that book...

      @ghost said in Original Sci-Fi?:

I would Heavy Gear or Robotech my ass off.

      Just sayin'

CAVEAT: So long as they don't use the Palladium RPG System, because fuck that noise. While I don't terribly mind the percentile dice system, there is no way a MU would survive a single combat scene where 6 different PCs and multiple combat opponents each got 3+ turns per round.

Kingsdale RIFTSMU* used the full palladium system, multiple attacks per round and all. It actually isn't that bad, cuz most people go then next attack sequence, and so on and so forth. Each 'Round' just plays like mini rounds.

@zombiegenesis It's more that there are games with literally /hundreds/ of FC's, but so many of them are sat on by people who are playing 4-5 FC's that the list of who is actually a compelling character is reduced dramatically.

With a smaller FC list, that danger is even higher.

So imho, you will need to do a one FC per person type of situation.

Steve turned into a real good guy, but he was already making the transition at the end of Season 1, yeah I feel bad for him, it was kind of a disconnect for me that him and Nancy were together at the start of season 2. I /so/ wanted to see Steve kick the shit out of Billy though. Wanted that hard core.

    • RE: Original Sci-Fi?

I still want to do a sci-fi game that is set on a ship that's gone dark, sort of like Pandorum, but without the funky people have evolved to live on a ship where the only food source is other people thing.

I was contemplating using a version of CoD without any of the supernatural merits for system but, it doesn't really do high tech very well. So am still fishing around for a system I like and will translate well.

I was worried that Bob was going to end up working for the bad guys, but he ended up being totally cool and I was /hoping/ he would just get hurt but I /knew/ he was gonna die and I was sad. I liked him a lot.

There have been teen focused Hero games in the past, Ravenwood Academy which did well even with the draconian 'We make your character sheet, not you.' Premise that drove so many people away. At least until standard MU* drama brought it down and it became invite only or something like that.

That said, you've got a pretty severely limited pool of FC's there. So there's going to be issues unless you did it as all OC's there is going to be major Drama about FC's and Activity, etc.

It /can/ be done, and successfully but it's going to take a lot to keep the OOC drama down due to that.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

@thenomain On some MUD's I played on (Namely one WoT Diku derivative) they had an object that you could take say that Excalibur you looted off King Arthur (It wasn't fully converted at the time to WoT and had some base Diku zones still) and rename it, redesc it, etc, using ansi color and everything. Was pretty neat.

(ETA:) There was one guy who was named Kal Torak (Totally stolen from the Belgariad) who rewrote everything to be dressed in body parts. So his belt was dedesced to be a coil of intestine, etc.

So yeah it wasn't perfect, but was neat 🙂

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

@thenomain Clothing objects? It's literally an object that can be traded, dropped, sold, and 'worn' through one command or another. When someone looks at the character, more often than not, the physical objects are listed after the intro desc, so the description would be like, the face, build, etc, and then the actual clothing part of the description would be the items.

You can then use l <name>'s <item name> to read the description of the item and in many circumstances they are carefully written things. Most of the time though they ended up being a horrible mess of asci and ansi color 🙂 I imagine with xterm256 etc they could be made much nicer.

On a MUD they are actually pieces of gear, that you equip, and if you equip them they provide armor, stats, etc.

MU's may or may not have statted clothing objects.

@bobotron Firan had clothing objects, it's also a very big thing on MUD's and some MOO's. Possibly MUCK also but I don't think I've ever played a MUCK.

    • RE: Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?

@autumn I used to try to keep my descs under 22 lines, because I didn't want it to scroll off a standard resolution screen. My descriptions have actually gotten shorter over the years, rather than longer, because I recognized a lot of superfluous prose that wasn't necessary or even helpful.

@faraday Some of us, who read descs religiously, would like to @pemit ourselves or use think code (if penn) to read descs without triggering @adescs cuz we didn't want to spam them, that and some people new to the hobby would react to an (ETC:) @adesc like we were ICly staring at them or something.

@faraday said in Character Information: Wiki or Mu*?:

      1. Better Set Poses. As you described, people tend to throw that stuff into their set poses now. Because nobody read descs, or just a natural evolution of the genre? Who knows. But it's a thing, and it largely makes descs superfluous.

Problem with this is that you then have people who come in not knowing diddly about what everyone's wearing or general appearance is.
