@Bananerz That's brilliant, I love what you've done with it. Its very inspiring. Thank you very much.
@Bananerz Thank you very much, its appreciated, its a great map.

@Lotherio I saw that it's an actual place, and so made my own. Mainly to show that just very quickly, you can create really interesting things.
Edit: Happy to help make this much better, and it can be yours.
Exactly what I was looking for with interpretation by the map maker. That's a great looking map of the area, in its own style, different buildings.
I understand it creating interesting can be done, and I usually go to Autorealm for layers and detail. I know it takes me a while to do that, I get stuck in the details. I was hoping for someone who enjoys making maps and can add their own creativity to it, in a shorter turn around. I'm okay creating something (comes with the territory in getting a BFA), I also know my limits.
If its okay to use that I would very much like that, if you want to add more detail as you like, I'm open to see what you come up with and am willing to discuss more of it with you.
Removed. Just for everyone information. That's the tour map of Stourhead, a massive estate that is one of the many holdings of the National Trust. They are pretty liberal with copyright on many of their own digital images and artworks held by the trust. They clearly indicate on those images most likely to be republished what is copyrighted or public domain. They do have an entire site dedicated to images from their holdings with many of the images cleared for reuse with property and model releases while being clear if other copyright issues may apply (such as images on loan from private holders). They have bigger fish to fry I imagine than the tour map of Stourhead
My use is intended as derivative with no intent to infringe upon any profit if the tour map is copyright protected. In fact, I'd highly recommend folks visit Stourhead, they do have rooms and cottages available on the premise at pretty decent rates (all things considered, staying at a national heritage site). Those folks that played my short lived Pendragon Mu, Stourhead is near the source of the River Wyle which ran near Salisbury. Its in the neck of the woods Morgan le Fay has retreated to (so to speak). Its an awesome Palladian home and estate (18th Century).
I've removed it, that way no one has to be concerned with legality of it.
In search of someone with really good digital map making skills. Someone who could take the following map and recreate it in their own style, sans the keys/legend information, remove a few buildings and add a few more.

ET. Yes, I played it on the Atari 2600. My mom bought it for me as Birthday Present.
I never got past the first level, I'd fall into a pit and my counter would run out as I tried to head copter my way out.
That's the trick, supposed to fall in the pits, just it was hard to get out.
Its one of the old Atari games we used to try and glitch by flicking the on/off switch. Sometimes you could get the character out of sequence enough to just walk around regardless of background.

Every few months or so I get really loud and shake my cane in the air
Only every few months? ... oh oh, just on this topic, gotcha.
I think the last few posts are just evidence enough I need to completely retire from trying to run a Mu. No matter how clear I try to be in the type of Mu I'm after, something is lost in translation. I'm the sticky wicket. Just for benefit of runners and players alike, communication requires two parties, whole blame cannot reside on the runner; most of the communication problem is the static in the middle between type of game trying to be run and expectations of players.
I still think the 'getting young blood' is off the mark a little in how its being approached. I still feel the less complex, more universal approach is good; or as @Thenomain put it, more encourage the light fandom over deep nerditry.
I think we miss part of the mark to in not encouraging creativity and embracing that is it a written medium. This just came up in another thread, but I think its one of those things that needs a point made about getting young blood:

but who even writes a "business description" and a "going to Walmart at 2am description" anyway?
I also feel called out here, because I do that exact thing for the characters I've made so far. At least once I found out about multidescs and +desc systems lol.
Old hats are good doing away with multidescs and lots of those who have been around end up focusing on PB. Forgetting part of our own draws into this hobby. Instead of defining the target audience and shooting into the dark, perspective from young blood might go a long way too I think.
@Thenomain said in Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing:
So you're saying that you prefer systemless to systemed, and a more open setting to a deeply established one?
My preference certainly, simple universal system is better than complex combat that requires reading 40 pages of a tome (handbook) and less established setting for me versus knowing the nuisances of decades old established theme.
My perspective, I see more systemless/settingless RP on Forums and other video games than on a Mu*. Or if it is an established setting, other RP outside of a Mu is pretty good about letting folks claim high end FCs and retelling stories versus a debate about how to play and who gets to play who.
@Thenomain said in Getting Young Blood Into MU*'ing:
Do you have a set of recommendations for systems?
....
So I am interested in what you have to say and would like to read the pamphlet. Do continue.
....
I do think that picking system and picking setting are different situations, but demanding people Know All Phase 3 Marvel Movies is a consideration alongside Buying Every WoD Book In Existence.
For systems, versatility. I was a fan of D6, not because I was an uber fan of Star Wars but because it was easily customizable even before it was released as Open D6. I'm a fan of FS3, because even as you pointed out, wildly different settings fit under the system. I know @Faraday is adamant about what settings fit the bill for the system out of the bottle, but it is adaptable and others have tried and continuously do try to fit it into other bottles.
The issue is that others argue the system when really young blood just need some basic stats (attributes/skills/etc.) and dice to decide, not an in-depth war game or combat heavy RPG that more typical TT players seem to favor.
Literally if I go to an RPG forum for some type of RP, the system is not an issue and really its whatever the ST recommends using. Same with other on-line RP mediums, most young blood do not even use dice. Yet, we'll argue semantics over whether total dice pool (total face values) vs counting successes (each dice over a certain number) is better or worse.
I see this as a barrier to entry. Coming into some conversation about which dice to use in some complex formula I imagine is like 'no thanks, I'll go back to my forum RP where its more collaborative writing and less rules lawyering.'
And it is the same with setting, even if difference in scope. If someone offers historical but its more Hollywood historical, arguments abound. Would I rather play on some new original setting place or Dragonlance with however many hundreds of books if cannon and if I play a dwarf wrong because of some obscure book I'll be called on it? The former for me.
I don't really have any answer. Like the Dark Crystal thread about it being a good idea is cringe-worthy for me, because at some point its a bunch of 'what system works best', and those who watch some of the these 'theme' would be a good game discussions probably notice once two to four people debate the best system for the game, the thread starts to die off.
@Doozer Original Jim Henson movie to showcase puppets were more than muppets/comedic humor. Maybe ahead of its time. Original fantasy world. All original, no humans or elves, all original species/races/etc. Now its a series (prequel to the movie) on Netflix with an array of voice talent.
This thread blew up, I can't read 9 pages to see if this has been covered.
A large barrier to entry for Mu* compared to forum/discord/other game (like RP on WoW or Minecraft) is ... the cost of entry.
I remember back in the 90s my group discussed the need for 2nd+ editions, which is because some companies can only sustain by releasing new editions. If everyone in the hobby has 1st edition and nothing else sales ...
Most Mu*s have some system and knowing the system is a barrier to entry which requires having the books for that system.
As a teen or young 20-something with little disposable income, would I be more inclined to play on a forum or discord where I don't necessarily need to know rules or buy books ... or jump into any number of Mu*s that require one book to really know the system and usually use a handful of others to make it more 'complete'?
Lots of places use a specific theme (aside from system) and that requires having read the books to get through CG half the time.
I prefer simple universal systems and original theme, but that's not really the go to for most folks who have been in the hobby for a while it seems. So by being specific and using well established themes, we're in part creating the barrier to entry. The young blood will find a place to play that doesn't require an expenditure of resources (money and/or lots of reading time just to understand the basics before getting into specific theme/house rules for that setting).
@surreality said in Good TV:
I wouldn't say the series is at all dependent on having seen it, as a prequel. There are some things from the film you can look at and say, 'oh, so that's why that was how it was!' but that's fairly standard for any prequel.
It's not, and I've been told by my partner that there are some glaring continuity differences, but it is still very good. I appreciate the mix of puppetry and CGI.
Also, Simon Pegg does a great job of impersonating the Chamberlain.
This, even with glaring continuity differences (big picture for the movie's theme/prophecy), its a great work. Chameberlain is near spot on, that is great and I like Hamill on the scientist. The development of character for each of the Skeksis is great and I like the portrayal of the Emperor who is only seen briefly in the movie.
Frankly, I like the stiffness. It reminds me of how much effort went into the puppetry, and how much the creators wanted to pay homage to Henson and the franchise's roots. So, give me a bit of stiffness, please.
With all the CGI available, especially to the Henson Company, I'm glad to see the use of puppetry. They is some great advancements and without having read the reason why they choose to keep it near the same, I imagine its homage and continuity with the puppetry of the first one, they don't look out of place compared to their originals despite how much more advanced the puppetry is.
I'm enjoying it even with my reservations as a proud fan since the original movie.
