@thatonedude Come on man. Let's not hash it all out again in another thread.

RE: A new platform?
@arkandel I fucking hate sending @mail in TinyMUX. Penn's alright, but tbh I really appreciate the work @faraday did with her +mail code. It's the best mail system I've seen/used in MUing.

RE: General Video Game Thread
So been playing the Spider-Man game on PS4 and it's real good. Combat is fast, moving around Manhattan is cool, and the story stuff seems interesting, at least for someone who has a cursory knowledge of Spider-Man stuff. The one down side is some of the side content is downright repetitive, so I do kind of give it a few knocks against it for that.

Pineapple on Pizza
So I didn't clutter up the clusterfuck of a Red Market thread...

The hell is wrong with y'all? Watermelon is the shit.
I bet you're one of those terrible people who eats pineapple on pizza, too.
Pineapple and spinach are the only worthwhile toppings from the non-meat options (other than extra cheese of any variety, but that goes without saying). Pineapple belongs on pizza. It's amazing.
I just needed to say this because it's important to me.

RE: Why are there so many MUs set in Maine?
@aria Yeah that's fair enough. But having spent a goodly bit of time on the eastern coast, you just hear a LOT of stories about Philly Sportsball fan (from throwing batteries to booing Santa to braining a dude with a bottle of vodka while he was climbing a street light to dropping F bombs on local media because they're super hyped). There's not really anywhere else in America with that type of fan. Frankly, I find a lot of the antics utterly hilarious.

Not to get too snippy, but... to do... that...
When, exactly, did we collectively decide that "well, it's day one release" was an excuse for a game to be buggy?
Like, I realize we're past the days when cavemen needed to chisel the ones and zeroes immutably onto a kar-chrij to ship out, and the ability to go back and patch a finished game is on balance a good thing. Same with content expansions that don't need the physical media and shipping expenses you'd get with an expansion pack.
But I'm a bit peeved at the fact that this has been taken as license to, generally, treat release day as "super special open full-priced beta testing." Especially when combined with the industry's... focus? emphasis? unsettling fetish? of deluxe ultra preorder things.
You're not alone. Honestly some studios should just embrace the Early Access tag and say that the first year of release is for community bug fixing or some shit. Do what Larian did with the last couple Divinity games.

Jim Sterling of the Jimquisition talks about it a lot and has for about four years now, but he isn't exactly a mainstream games journalist anymore.
Yeah, I'm aware of Jim. He and Jason Schreier tend to be the two biggest voices in games media about this. I know some other publications follow their work, but the two of them have also had to deal with people giving them shit for daring to talk about studios like CDPR in a way that isn't glowingly positive.

It is exhausting. I need a vacation. And not the one we're actually taking, unfortunately.
You should. Step away from the internet for a week. Focus on RL stuff. Maybe you'll feel better about things!

So what's the word on The Reach 3: The Reach Around? Curious because I was listening to some 80s tunes earlier.

RE: Are there any high fantasy MU*s?
@lotherio I get why some people would feel that way. From my perspective, Elves and Humans tend to be the most popular fantasy races, even if I do love stodgy old dwarves myself. I just see it over and over again in various tabletop games, MMOs, what have you.

I really wish I could find a copy of Tactics somewhere and play it, why isn't it on Steam?! Ahhh. That's my two cents!
Supposedly a remaster is being worked on. It was in a leak with Chrono Cross remastered and that's coming out in like a week.

Meg and Pikachu
I'm making this thread because I believe Surprised Pikachu has been replaced in our hearts and in our minds, and I want @Meg to embrace the new icon of shock and surprise...

RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
While I agree with a lot of the comments here about FCs.
Personally I see FATE and go, "Meh." There are several systems already out there for Star Wars and they are far more interesting. To each their own though, I guess.

Seriously, they could have used Master Luhhan for the same purpose with the same effect; Perrin accidently killing hismentor and father figure would have been devastating enough and served the same purpose, without creating a character from whole cloth.
I agree with this, and for what its worth, Brandon Sanderson himself commented on reddit that this was a suggestion he passed along as well.

RE: Good TV
Ugh, I guess I will post in this thread since I'm not sure there's another TV thread buuuuuuuut.
The Stand.
Okay, I like a lot of the casting choices and think the actors are doing a good job BUT I utterly loathe how the story is being told. A big part of The Stand is the journey, and showing that in pieces in flashback form just doesn't feel great to me.
Though maybe it's just that I've read the book several times and have seen the 90s miniseries like 5 times.
I will also say the last episode did bring Kojak into the picture and he's the best character in the whole book. Good boys are always the best characters.

RE: The Wheel of Time
@arkandel I think so, yes. If I had to take a step back, the show is doing a good job of showing me people I should like: Moiraine, Alanna, Lan, the Eamon's Fielders, Logain (who is a king) and Thom (also a king). And doing a good job of showing me people I should not like: Liandrin, for example. Granted I KNOW these characters, but there's stuff they are doing that I think works well.
- Nynaeve and Lan have been fantasitic.
- Moiraine and Alanna having a personal chat while guarding Logain.
- Logain just being Logain, who is a king, but also the scene where he chooses to push past the madness and heal instead of kill was baller for showing the type of character he is.
- Thom's story to Rand was just, whew, really well done.
Yeah, I would LOVE it if Amazon started giving them 10 episode seasons, but so far things have worked really well. They've cut out a bunch of stuff that, quite honestly, could be cut out. Even if I'm sad for no Bayle Doman lol, but the characters are all standing on their own so far.
I definitely remember not really giving a damn about Siuan until way, way later, after all that went down and we got to know a very different Siuan.
This is a fair point.

RE: Forum wonk
@arkandel I know there's stuff people want to keep but man at some point I can't help but feel like it might be easier to archive certain important posts/threads in some fashion and then start a fresh forum. I know a lot will be lost but it sounds like any sort of migration is going to be either costly or damn near impossible and i fear we may hit a point where, as you mentioned, restoring functionality won't be available and we'll lose everything anyway.
