RE: Sensitivity in gaming
@rinel said in Sensitivity in gaming:
This doesn't work for MU*s, but every ttrpg I've been in has had a session 0 where we discuss the tone of the upcoming game, what we can reasonably expect to see, and what people are not okay with. With the option to send a private message to the DM if you want to nix something without airing it publicly.
This, to me, is a basic courtesy to everyone involved.
I mean, it could work for MUs if people were willing to put in the effort to tag events, or if Staff very clearly lay out what sorts of content players might expect on their game in a rating file. Usually when I see any sort of content warning it's just "R - Adult things may happen" or some such shit.
WTF are "Adult things"? Banging and some violence sure, but paying bills and going to work are adult things too (/s on the last bit)
Having something like ESRB content descriptors could work:
"This scene may include Crude Humor, Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Use of Drugs and Strong Sexual Content" as just an example.

@rucket how didn't that pizza survive under all those toppings?
I don't eat papa Johns. Makes me sick.
It barely managed. Barely. It was a real mess, haha.
@surreality Pretzel crust is the shit. That's disappointing that Pizza Hut got rid of it.

Re: politics in games.
It's pretty funny that Ubisoft tried to say Division 2 was apolitical, but the there's a LOT of similarities between the True Sons and the Proud Boys, lol. Though I guess making people drop shiny guns and making shooting fun helps to keep people from thinking about it too much.

I enjoyed RP quite a lot with both Gerrit and Solon (didn't RP with Antaeus).
You're a swell enough fellow too.

@Rucket I dunno. I'm playing Div2 right now and I can say it doesn't really preach. The baseline content is political, but then again it doesn't matter the politics of a fictitious president or what his platform is; if DC gets hit by a virus and terrorism, it is what it is.
It's not very "oooo-rah save Murica". It's more "Hey this settlement of people dont have running water because a group of lawless shitheads have overtaken the water supply. Let's help get water to those kids."
I'm actually really a fan of how it shows progress. At the beginning a settlement in some building might be bombed out without food, but after a few missions you come back and they're all "Hey, we we're able to put together a video game system and school for the kids, and the hydroponics garden is set up to grow food."
As far as games that are run around and shoot guns, I think it's a more community "help each other", which I think is nice for a change.
Yeah I agree with all of that, I just meant that as far as enemy faction goes, a lot of the dialogue and shit I've seen from the True Sons reminds me of a mix of hard right wing militias and the Proud Boys, lol. It's not incredibly overt, but stuff is there. But yeah, the progression on settlements and doing quests to give settlements new ways to feed themselves/entertain themselves/educate themselves/whatever is pretty sweet.

No Jedi.
Actually, the secret to Star Wars MUs is to say 'you can earn a force user character, impress us' and then watch as everyone trips over themselves to get one of the limited space-wiznerd slots. And of course, only give them out to the people whomst are lewd instead.
Because as we all know, the most important attribute for a Force-user, next to a high midi-chlorian count, is a high lewd count.
Lewdichlorian count.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I wanted to like Greedfall.
I wanted to really like it but a lot of the characters just fell so flat to me and the dialogue was rough to get through sometimes.

RE: L&L Options?
I think L&L games are kind of a dying breed except for the three games mentioned in this thread.

Well a more recent show taht could be a cool MU idea, or maybe a seasonal type thing on HorrorMU if that was still going would be that show From.

RE: I know it's an old topic but to this day....
I dont really see the harm in some idiot thinking the earth is flat. Seems like a dumb but harmless thing to think of, so why be so angry? Antivax people are literally harming people with their stupid ass ideas, seems like a group of people that deserve active scorn. Flat earthers are just amusing in comparison.

Crowbcat came out of YT slumber to make a Cyberpunk video. It's excellent and also incredibly damning.

RE: Arx- Gareth
@Kireek Brah, I think people were willing to listen to what you had to say, but you yourself have already admitted to some actions that are questionable and have admitted to having hissy fits about things in public. Honestly, there's a point where feedback is great and a point where someone's opinions just can't be taken seriously any longer due to how they are putting those opinions out there.
The whole issue with support? I read the wiki. This page: http://play.arxmush.org/topics/Task Guide/ goes over a lot of the support stuff and makes it sound like people have options for how much or how little they want to support whatever you are doing. It even sounds like they can straight up bullshit you. I can see why Staff wouldn't want people paging and asking for the support, that would make it seem like you are telling someone they need to do it.
Also didn't someone mention @mails going out about it? If that's the case, that seems to be enough of a reminder for the person to offer support or not offer support. Whatever the case may be.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Kanye-Qwest said in Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning:
A +meetme (with some caveats) is likely. The OOC room suggestion is prooobably a hard no. All I can speak to is my own experience, but of all the (four?) wod mushes I dipped my toe into, there was just 0 organic, random RP to be had. Also the OOC rooms were horrible and headache-inducing.
But, every character in Arx is assigned a home room, a private space in which they can idle and chat and watch paint dry as they like.
Or you get people who sit in the OOC room all day and then bitch about not having RP. Ran into one or two of those on Fallcoast.

100%. Besides I think some really rich dude already said he was going to drop 100 million euro for Notre Dame. So helping out these churches who were part of some asshole's hate-filled rampage is better, imo.

RE: Is Min/Max a bad thing?
The goodness or badness of min/maxing depends on the group.
If you have a group of four and three people are making RP-based characters and those RP choices aren't exactly mechanically 'optimal', then the fourth person min/maxing the shit out of their character is a bad thing.
If you have a group of people min/maxing to have a fun, challenging campaign... then that's perfectly fine IMO.
