@apu After playing early access I'm kind of stoked to see the new lore releases. Not a big fan of the forced 3rd person combat they have now, but whatevs.

RE: Infinity War [SPOILERS]
@coin He did that to relatively few planets, though. All the planets out there where people just disappeared will be having baby booms for the next twenty years.

RE: Spoilers
Two weeks for a movie. IF people are really sensitive to spoilers beyond that, I don't mind them shunning me because I'd rather not be around joykills.
By all means, mark threads spoilers, but jumping on someone for a slip for a slip up or office talk is bullshit after a couple weeks.

RE: Infinity War [SPOILERS]
I did enjoy it, that was the only thing that bugged me. When I re watch it, there better be a Thanos-copter somewhere in the background near his retirement home, I will be shocked if they didn't easter egg that.

RE: Infinity War [SPOILERS]
@arkandel I guess my issue is that the comics already had a solid motivation, Thanos was nuts and in love with an abstract concept. They really didn't need to change that for the movie.

if they hadn't gone with the (much better, imo) motivations for Thanos that they did.
I have to disagree with his motivations in the movie being better. I was watching the movie and was like, huh? In two or three generations, things will be back to where they were, why not use the IG to affect fertility rates or just like, you know, make more food?

RE: Interest check: WH40K Only War
@ghost said in Interest check: WH40K Only War:
These are probably your target players, so it might be worthwhile identifying them and asking them what policies worked best for them in terms of risk/pc death.
The CG in Only war was a bit complicated for a meatgrinder. If they had an autogeneration or a couple of preset sheets system, that would go miles for a high turnover game.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@calindra after 2 weeks, it's on you to avoid spoilers. If you're going to be precious about things, make the time to see the bloody movie already.

"I just met you, but now I am going to pour out my entire back-story in our first conversation together. Now your turn to do the same!"
There was a guy like this on the train to work today. Like, dude, I have my headphones on and am barely awake. It's really nice that you're new to the country, but I have to go to work at the next stop and I kind of have to number 2, please, just stop talking.

Also I don't personally enjoy RPing with characters whose main concept is 'a dick to everyone'.
To me, it's not so much I hate RPing with these characters, it's that often there's very little IC reason for most people to do anything with these characters. Like, if I'm planning a shadowrun in the local bar and some complete asshole is in the corner just being a dick, why on earth is it on ME to invite them along? Unless there's some compelling hook, my character is going to look at them and be like, fuck that guy, and move on with their life.
ETA: Places that expect you to play based on meta-knowledge rather than IC knowledge. Yes, I know staff has just told me that shooting the hijacker is a bad move because they're a Sith Lord, but my character just thinks they're a stupid hijacker--why the fuck would they think the stupid hijacker is a Sith Lord? Why is a sith lord wasting their time hijacking a shuttle?

RE: Dice Mechanics
Hmm, so in my homebrew, I have skill level giving more dice to throw at a problem, and quality of tools adding or subtracting from the target number.
Like, pretend your base stat is 8.
If you are an expert at something, you'd throw 4d20L looking to roll under 8. If you get one die under 8, you succeed.
If you are a total noob, you'd be rolling 2d20H, looking to roll under 8, but you pick the highest die because you suck.
If you have nice tools or equipment, you could get up to +3 or so on your target number. If you are using crappy equipment, down to -3 for really shitty stuff.
Does that make sense?
-
RE: Dice Mechanics
Or how about both!
Twilight 2013 has roll x number of d20s against TNs based on your stats, which can go up and down.
Are there any stats nerds out there? I'd be curious to find out what is the bigger percentage bonus, an extra d20, or an extra +1 on the target number.

RE: Good or New Movies Review
@arkandel I'll have to track those down in my city. For me it isn't so much the reclining, it's the enforced bad posture the way they push my shoulders forward. What kind of a sadist designed those?

RE: Good or New Movies Review
2 1/2 hours of fanboy porn. I quite enjoyed it! Last Jedi made my back hurt, but this one I didn't notice how crazy long it was.

RE: General Video Game Thread
I just picked up an orbweaver. It'll take getting used to, but damn, ergonomic setups are pretty nice.

RE: Tenuous Tie-In or Original Universe?
How about Aliens meets Event Horizon meets Doom?
Set in New Chicago, a terraforming/mining system, a research outpost, our good friends Weyland-Yutani are experimenting with new space fold systems, which (obviously) have awful implications for the colonists.
Looking at the starmap from the game, there's also a system called 'Eyesore,' that could be a lovely locale to set the game in.

RE: Tenuous Tie-In or Original Universe?
@bad-at-lurking said in Tenuous Tie-In or Original Universe?:
My strongest inclination for that rules set is to run a sci-fi game set on a distant colony world with little or no outside contact. I'm thinking kind of Pitch Black or Aliens feel to things. Survival, group politics, alien threats and exploration. Not to mention a good way to introduce new characters at will as more colonists (willing or not) are decanted from cold storage at the whims of an AI that doesn't listen or answer to the humans.
The Aliens RPG has some fantastic lore that I really wanted to use when taking a swing and opening a mush (before I was distracted by other things).
I'm a big fan of how it takes 2 weeks to charge up the capacitors for the FTL drive, so leaving a system is a big commitment, and you've got an in universe reason for not leaving a particular solar system for RP.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
@mr-johnson The only real difference would be hyperdrives are much slower. Everything else could stay the same with just a bit of skinning.

RE: A New Star Wars game? (Legends of The Old Republic (Name pending))
Here's my quick pitch: Set the game during the expansion period, with exploration and settlement of new worlds, discovering alien civilizations. Way before the Jedi Civil war, back when Jedi had plug ins for their light sabres, and Coruscant had trouble controlling its colonies.
Oh, and in another thread @ZombieGenesis mentioned having a savage worlds CG up and running.

RE: Star Wars?
When you play by the actual rules, D6 Jedi aren't actually that great until they are fossil characters. In fact, if you're starting from a normal character generation, they're gold bricks for the bulk of a campaign.
The reason they're OP on Mushes is because of poorly thought out house rules like they don't take the attribute hit for their initial force skills or have to seek out teachers for powers. That and straight up CP for +noms is a terrible idea, the system was designed so that an adventure or TP would be worth 3-5 cp rather than the hordes most mushes rain on PCs.
