I don't know if it counts as "TV" but over the last week, I got sucked into watching this guy(steve1989mreinfo) on youtube reviewing army food. It's kind of amazing how long jujubes will last.

A while back, I got to see the Undertaker fight Kane three hours after having my wisdom teeth pulled. It was awesome. Protip, don't wear a white shirt to wrasslin after going to the dentist.

My apartment complex changed ownership, and apparently the new ownership wants to make it very clear that these are their homes; we just borrow them.
A few years back, I was on a trip in Italy. when I was in Venice, I was stuck without a hotel room for the night, so I just wandered around, taking in the sights in the snowy dark. Anyways, around 2 am, I came across a band in the street, playing tubas, trumpets and those big marching band bass drums, singing and being generally loud and obnoxious. I asked them what was up, and they told me a story very similar to yours, and they were just jamming outside their landlord's home because why not?
I don't have any advice or anything, just thought I'd share.

Your big badass end boss got one shotted, sure. But you had a big badass end boss for them to face. That's the outcome.
I disagree, in my opinion, the outcome of the endboss fight is the outcome, not that there was an encounter at all, that's just a setup.
I've played games where the players came up with a plan, executed it, and were robbed because, it turns out, batman can't be killed by mere goons despite the goons(our characters) rolled very well, and had a pretty good trap set up. Others where some other pet NPC shows up, does a monologue, and then the situation is resolved before the PCs can really do anything because the person running the plot has a specific outcome in mind.

People can talk about not liking things being 'on rails' or whatever, but sometimes you just gotta use that fiat.
As a player, I'd like a heads up about scenes like these so I can opt out. If a GM has an outcome that has to happen, then I'd just rather not, I'll skim their story on the +Bboard.
What makes things fun in role playing is the emergent story that happens via dice rolls and the input of other players. Some of my most memorable moments as a DM were when my big badass end boss got one shotted, or as a player someone in the party took out the balrog with one wild swing thanks to the 20-20-20 rule.

RE: Table-top campaigns online
I have one remote player at my table and we use Roll20. Somehow it's voice/video chat is way better than Skype's. It has built in options for sharing maps and sheets with dice rollers built in. I use the free version, which is all I really need for the one player, but if I was doing a whole campaign with all virtual, I might look at some of the neat features the paid version uses.

RE: Running Wilderness Adventures
Approach it like a board game instead of a RPG. I'm sure there are some games like Puerto Rico or something that you could adapt easier than shoe horning in an RPG.
A few years ago, I was looking at doing an Arkham Horror mush, which was just basically the board game with RP. Every week a player can explore a location with friends in a little PrP based on the random card that was drawn for there.

So... anyone going to be playing Anthem in the open demo this weekend?
I was in the closed alpha and the VIP demo, and despite the (many) quirks and issues, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the game; I'll probably jump in again this weekend to keep trying out my Interceptor build.
(Do not play with keyboard and mouse on PC, though. The kb+m controls are garbage, while it is a complete joy with a controller.)
FYI
You can play Anthem for 99 cents for a month. Origin Access is $.99 the first month and has access to Anthem.
Edit-my bad it's 10 hours with basic. Bummer.

Also, someone posted Horation Hornblower to Youtube, I forgot that Lee Adama was in this show!

RE: Good TV
For anyone still watching Startrek Discovery, Tig Notaro joined the crew and stole the show. I'm starting to look forward to this season, especially if they lay off the teen angst of Spock's family aspects.

RE: Ideal Scene Length?
A couple of hours for social scenes between 2-3 players. For actual plots with more than three players, I think anything up to 4 is good. If I'm playing on a work night, I'd like to get to bed at a reasonable time, fuck staying up till 2am mushing.
The actual length is less a thing for me than response time. If it takes a player 15-30 minutes to pose, then any length feels too long.

I still can't believe Jason Momoa is wasting his time with Aquaman when he was clearly born to play Lobo.

Ugh, I'm on board with you, but to add a couple more reasons, people that do this very often expect any scene to specifically cater to their particular tastes and mood, and sorry, but you have to play your character out of character in order to accommodate their character's arc, oh by the way, they're a secret undercover agent and now the fun adventure just turned into one PC getting arrested.
Oh, sorry, yeah, I've since stopped responding to +pub CAN I HAS RPZ requests, too. I'm not salty at all. Honest.
