Hell I remember back in the day on some WoD games where all the sudden a person would be ambushed, and miraculously people who were all the way across town at the time it happened showed up!

Ugh, this happened to me on Serenity, which made me quit the mush in its infancy. Dodged a bullet right there.

This is a pet peeve of mine on Star Wars mushes, people will hop around the galaxy like they're driving to the mall and back when it should be taking days to weeks.

I too hate staring at a timer when I'm in hyperspace, it sucks, but I think the fault is with staff for making the setting for RP galaxy wide instead of an area of space where this wouldn't be an problem. I'm in the camp that a star wars mush should take place in a single sector at maximum to get rid of this issue.

People have many problems with the movie Rogue One(all the new movies, really), but my main gripe was the last bit where they handwaved travel times that had been established in previous movies and sourcebooks. Like, is the library planet five minutes away from Yavin IV? how is Yavin a secret base if it's right next to the high security library planet?

What are some coded systems that made the world feel more real, or more immersive, or helped get invested in it?

Digging trenches and clearing wire. It sounds lame, but it clicked with me.

There is a lot of love for Deadlands out there, and Savage Deadlands is great. I use their dueling rules for other settings as well.

The next time I do Star Wars for my group it will be with Savage Worlds. I just have to make a Sabaac deck for initiative!

To me it's pretty simple; not everyone's playstyle is everyone else's favorite.

For sure. I've had people flip out at me because my pose style usually includes snippets of backstory and narrative to explain some of the references I use, but some people are very firmly into the only write physical actions that poeple would see and hear and nothing else.

I've always encountered these arguments when there was some element of PvP involved. It was usually invoked by staff to get the resolution their involved friend wanted, often saying something like, "dear unpopular player, it's often 'more interesting' to have a setback or two on your hero's journey. It's best for you to lose this encounter and then you have something to work for!" Or some BS like this.

It always seems to be players with no staff alts or no friends on staff that are asked to make it fun for someone else, and it's tedious.

I think this is why if I ever find myself on a game with different factions that are set against each other, I tend to clique up and sandbox things as much as possible with people I get along with.

@auspice aw, dang. I was hoping for the inside scoop on some sort of secret CIA code or something.

So in my comic class, I had to learn how to letter comics.

I've always been curious--what's with the random bold words in comics?

    • RE: FS3

Kind of a feature request, I don't know if it's possible with the way things are currently set up, but I think it would be cool to have quick loaded NPC teams of some sort for the combats.

Like, if I ran a plot with NPC squad Alpha Niner who had 5 NPCs:
      Pvt. Juniper
      Cpl. Jacobs
      Pvt. Shootme
      Sgt. Rock
      Pvt. Schlub

The next time I ran a plot and wanted the same npc squad as support characters, I could just type +load Alpha Niner to the combat or something, and it would autopopulate?

Ideally maybe have the squads as objects that you could look at and see the status, of them, or leave them in rooms to hangout and count as present guards, maybe with a link to the wiki where you can read notes on the squad. I remember NPCs developing backgrounds on FS3 games and thought that was really cool, this might help out.

@auspice Yikes, that's a lot more work than when I used to make cider with some yeast and concentrate with an airlock.

I wish I could stay awake during Altered Carbon. What I've seen of it is awesome, but something about the show is set to stun. I make it like 10 minutes in and bam.

      Back to Spooks, i guess.

'Hey, your character is good at this stuff, your character kind of sucks at this stuff. With that in mind, here's the world: role play.'

A system like this would probably work well with a list of skills. You start at average, and you get 3 points to be above average, because RPG character. Then, you have to start sucking at specific things to be really great at other specific things.

It's when every point on the sheet except for the bare minimum has been poured into being very good at one thing (usually combat, but sometimes social or medical)... that's when I start to have a problem with the character.

Honestly, I meet a lot of people like that at my University, to me min-maxed characters are more realistic. I deal with a LOT of students who have all of their points plunked into (Name grad program here) and like 0 into computer use or pretty much anything other than boiling Mr. Noodles. I'm amazed some of our students can survive in the world, but boy oh boy can they talk about permafrost / groundwater composition / fracking / you name it once they're wound up.

      I'm a min/maxer. I'm also pretty unapologetic about it

I am as well, I just don't understand this obsession with 'well rounded' characters that game runners have. In my experience, a well rounded character either has no need to invite other people on adventures (if the system is sane and difficulties are realistic) or is completely useless because their stats are all too low (most mush games I've encountered).

If every character has a specialization, then they need to bring others along on a quest, and you know, share the fun.

    • RE: Good or New Movies Review

@karmageddon Hahaha, yeah, it was a real treat. It definitely had pacing issues, the music choices didn't mesh with what was happening on the screens, but there was fun to be had.

I think I would recommend Hardcore Henry over Crank, but I do love the scene where Statham is robbing the pharmacy for dristan and then Dwight Yokum asks him if he has a boner after double barreling it, then he has a fight scene in a hospital gown with a giant boner.

Stay away from that Chinese shit, kids.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to watching Crank. Came across How Did This Get Made's episode and decided to give it a try. I miss movies that embrace ridiculous premises.
