    • RE: A new platform?

      I'm sure there are.

      We're still using this platform though, so it's probably not the best source for this information. Google might help.

      Alternately, both AresMUSH and Evennia are 'new' codebases used for this style of RP with a great many improvements, but they are still compatible with telnet.

      @zombiegenesis

      Because it implies that the games on your site are competing with one another for resources (players specifically, because the other resources you can't even make a case for 'using up'), like somebody couldn't play in both Buffy games or something. If you're setting it up that these games are in competition with each other, yeah, it's weird and uncomfortable.

      This type of thing has been done very successfully a number of times over the years. The projects don't tend to last incredibly long, but I can think of at least 3 games that were a collection of minigames, AND both OGR and STC had areas for this.

      We actually used to call them mini-mushes, because they were a collection of several smaller games sharing resources and the like.

      The only thing I'd say is 'ugh' on not letting people run the same type of game as others. That's weird and uncomfortable.

    • RE: Looking for a MU or Two

      @bad-at-lurking

      Sure. But that's not what they're asking. They're asking what anime means in this context, which is a very different question. No mush is animated with cartoon characters in the Japanese style: we're playing in text. If you go with the literal definition of what you're talking about...

      So, that leaves us with: okay, no games based on an anime series? No games with anime influences? No games that allow many genres of characters all mashed in together, because someone might play an anime PC?

      It's not a silly question. These are VERY RELEVANT if you want to get an answer that will be useful to you. There are games that fit all of those criteria out there, and if you mean all of them (nothing that could even remotely include something vaguely anime like), then people are asking to KNOW that. Otherwise they. can't. help. you.

      It might not be complex for you, but the people asking the questions are asking because they want to help you. 'I know it when I see it' doesn't help any of the people trying to narrow down a response to your question. There's really no need to get rude when people are legitimately trying to help you.

      I doubt anyone would mind if you compiled it for them and made a new thread as long as it was linked.

      Tenebrae (I'm probably not spelling that right) is probably your best bet. It is a D&D game, NOT Lords & Ladies (at all) with active storytelling/DMing pretty much constantly. If you're interested in a close-to-tabletop feel, they're a great game. The folks that run it are very solid on the type of game they want to run, and execute it beautifully.

      ETA: I don't play here. I have in the past, and this is based on my experience with it.

      I was on a bunch of those places. We probably played together. No way of telling with presently provided info.

    • RE: Respecs.

      I don't mind it. We're here to have fun, and if someone wants to readjust their character for WHATEVER reason, I don't see a problem with it. Pretty much everything can be explained in a reasonably IC fashion. The only thing I really care about is that it not happen every week/month -- having some sort of 'you can do this 1 time per 6 months' or w/e, just to keep the work involved low and to keep it from going from 'redo the character to make needed changes' to a way to actually play (these stats for one month, then those stats for another month, etc.).

    • RE: Rosters: To PB or Not To PB?

      @bobotron

      Yeah, and on games where rosters are handled like that (thank god the one I play on isn't) I would just never ever take a roster PC. If I couldn't make my own, I would not play. That would be a huge barrier for entry to me.

      ETA: That attitude (you have no ownership of a roster PC) is why I avoided roster games completely for the first 20 years I played in this hobby, and why I still won't play on most of them now. If staff thinks that's a way to build investment in their game, it's a good hint to me that their style and my own are not going to be compatible.

    • RE: Rosters: To PB or Not To PB?

      I like it if roster PCs already have PBs as long as I can change them. If I can't change it, I'd rather not have one chosen, and I wouldn't pick up a character that I didn't like the PB for at that point if they already had one.

      @thatonedude

      Some people really don't enjoy high powered games, and mistake that lack of enjoyment as it being a problem with those games instead of just a preference. It's also potentially more difficult to manage plots with a wide experience disparity, though I've never found that part of things personally challenging.

      Also, just because 1/5th of the PCs felt a certain way does not mean that all the NPCs felt that way, either.

      You don't have to agree with my point, or even disagree with it for both our points to be valid.

      EDITED:

      I got snarkier than I should have because I'm frustrated. I really think that if you're going to weigh in on this with such a firm opinion, you should probably take some more time to make yourself more familiar with the situation. It's hard to have a conversation with you about this.

      Just because it's IC doesn't mean it's fun OOC. For anyone.

      OOC fun on Arx actually matters.
