Tis Girl Scout Cookie season! I ordered 5 boxes of Thin Mints. >.>

I just got an email announcing cookie season was on and giving me directions on how to order online from one of the office sprogs.

It's kinda funny. I would be one of the first to say (and was absolutely thinking it!) that we don't have to worry too much about this sort of thing for (variety of reasons). And then I realized it actually happened to me once. O.O I kicked someone off of a game and they called CPS on me in retaliation. It wasn't fun. Thankfully the social worker acknowledged from the get go that it was a grudge call (that's what they call them) and it all was fine, but still.

      @thugheaven

I was trying to say that instead of insulting people for reasonable objections, it's more productive to just turn them away. Because that's what you did.

I object to IC consequences for OOC ignorance. This does not mean I have a fee fee problem, it means this game is not for me.

I suspect what he isn't (but should) be saying is, 'You are not the audience for this game if those are your preferences' which sounds terrible and so people avoid it, but end up saying actually worse things. It's ok if somebody isn't the target audience.

This game isn't for a lot of us around here. People's objections aren't because they're pansies who need a fee fee check.

Me too! When I actually have more than two pennies to rub together. But there are times! I think the vlog or blog (or just take pictures like MOM, I'M FINE guy!), they'd all be fantastic.

@derp I don't find the 'doing other things' part rude at all. What I find rude is someone not looking at me when we're speaking.

    • RE: The trappings of posing

I used to care about grammar and spelling and 'pretty poses'. I don't, any more. If I can understand what somebody is trying to say and I'm engaged, I have somehow gotten to a point where it just doesn't bother me.

Same with pose length, or 3pr vs round robin, or...any of it. A lot of this stuff I used to care about, like a whole lot.

These days, if I can engage with the other character in any sort of meaningful way, the rest of everything I just don't care about any more. Too many variances in style have turned out to hide really fun people that I'd have missed out on if I was anywhere near as picky as I used to be.

@admiral You mean like pretty much every codified alignment system in any RPG ever? 'Act this way or you are not good', aka crazy aka blah blah bad.

ETA: Literally. If you have to put good / evil (bad / good) into a rule system, you have to define 'good'. Any time you define good you are making a value judgment. Nature of the beast.

If anyone WANTS to get involved with the current metaplot stuff and is running into roadblocks, please please feel free to reach out to me. I might not end up being the one helping directly, but I am more than willing to make connections between people and help figure things out OOCly. Mail / page on game or PM here or w/e. I'm pretty sure this goes for everybody else piping in here.

I just stopped doing the things I was doing to 'keep up' with my prestige and it's falling fairly quick. Like, the reason B is where she is is because I was actively working to keep her there. I stopped doing that and she's descending now.

@pyrephox That's a good point. I can see the opportunities and make that space for the PCs that I work with, but those folks who aren't being utilized would definitely be out in the cold.

I still posit that it's not due to an imbalance plotwise between combat and social utility in number of plots, nor is it due to these plots/options not being available.

    • RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning

@pyrephox Yeah, absolutely. I'm just saying, as someone who plays there, plays a leadership PC, plays a social powerhouse, the problems folks who don't play there are saying the situation has...are not accurate.

I do not feel irrelevant as a social PC. I have done some awesome things, based on being a social PC. I have an IC ambassador, I hire diplomats, and these folks currently have measurable things to do, participate in, have fun with. There are plots for social PCs. Putting the social system in will definitely make it easier, give us options and fun things to do, but this whole 'you can only participate if you're a combat PC' thing is demonstrably false. Yes, games often have this problem. ARX (which this is an Arx advertising thread) does not.

ETA: There is a complete +crisis right now where having combat stats means NOTHING AT ALL and social stats are king.

ETA2: If anyone is having problems/issues with this, is floundering, whatever, I play Belladonna. I'm happy to assist / talk folks through things OOC if they're having problems figuring out how to engage on this level.

Even without the systems, I will say I have not had too much of a difficulty imposing internal social consequences (exile, other creative punishments, and we did have one execution as a result from failed political plotting stuff) with the system as it stands now -- adding coded consequences and the like will absolutely make it easier, rather than imposing further difficulties.

@arkandel Sorry, I meant do the other players have their devices with them as in the OTT software/website might help. Could physical/digital dice by choice even; even slack has a dice app to OTT.

Yeah, we can assume they all have smartphones with them. Which I think will prove to be distracting but good luck enforcing my iron will there.

It's possible. Make the rule, and then stick to it. If someone pulls out a phone at the table, stop DMing until they put it away. Peer pressure will resolve this.

ETA: It literally took only half of a session for me to nip this problem in the bud. I realized it was an issue, I told them what I was going to do, and then I stuck to it. We stopped having the problem. When somebody had a thing going on that needed them to be able to stay engaged with the phone, they just let us know and I said 'OK' and nobody bitched I let X have his phone.
