Persistent world is one of the big ones. One of the hallmarks of an OTT game is having the GM on hand for most (if not all) gameplay. The grid, the policies, guidelines for others running plot and the like, these things don't exist in an OTT environment.

RE: RL things I love
@auspice Oh yeah, I wasn't at all claiming it didn't suck, just silver linings and all.
-
RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
@auspice Yes. Yes yes. If it's warranted, if there's some big scale something, if it's something that applies, if phone lines are down, whatever. When the mountain finally blows up? Yeah! Check in, everybody!
...train, derailment by Nisqually? Man, my friend who is annoying me, you don't ride the train or even go that far north except for once a year. Your family lives SOUTH of you. STAHP IT.

RE: RL things I love
@auspice Probably one of the best things about your terrible situation with your commute is that I imagine it is probably a huge help w/ walking back the descent into type 2. I'm really glad you're going to the doctor about it, because knowing where you're at with your numbers and such will be a huge help in 'how much pasta can I keep eating' and such.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
This train derailment. I live pretty close.
I am so irritated by all of the check ins and drama from people who don't ride the train, live nowhere near the incident, and are drama llama-ing all over the place 'oh, I am so lucky!' and blah blah blah. There are TWO BUTTONS in the crisis system Facebook uses, one saying that you're safe, and the other saying IT DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU. Like, dude, the last time you rode the train was 15 years ago. Nobody was worried. Just ugh, locals are being so freaking weird about this whole thing, and the news reports on it are wildly inaccurate (anybody heard the 30mph vs 80mph thing, yet? Yeah, the 30mph thing is for freight along that stretch of tracks), and there was not CONCRETE poured on the tracks by Antifa.
Ugh. Ugh ugh. There are hurt people, and 3 people are dead, and yet it is like Christmas for some of these drama llamas who are playing this whole thing up SO HARD.

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
@ganymede Not quite my thing. Tag me when you're to the point you need me with your place.
-
RE: Mass Effect MU*?
@ganymede I'll come ST for you once you get to that point iffen you'd like. I won't really be down for administration or whatnot, but I'll run scenes and plots and combats and things. I've got itches to run some spacey sciencey stuff.
Edited to fix the spelling of one of my made up words.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I am not sure why it makes me so happy to see lawyers talking lawyer things and helping each other like this, but it does. Warm fuzzies and everything.

RE: Mass Effect MU*?
@ganymede I am super happy to see this is happening.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
@meg There's not even a solid 'this' here to be poo-poo'd.
-
RE: Alternative Formats to MU
@meg I'm sorry, I must be just straight up missing something. Can you show me where that's happening, here? I am seeing questions being asked and a discussion being had.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
There you go. There's a breakdown, even.
Specifically:
So apparently it didn't take digital books into account.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
I actually read an analysis thing the other day (I don't remember where, haven't found it again yet) that said the youngins read considerably more than the oldbies. It's something like 67% of people younger than 30 have read an actual book (not necessarily a physical copy, digital counted, but it was a book) in the last year compared to something significantly lower than that for people over 30.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
Like, I know you guys are hearing that he's anti-better-UI, but I promise, @rook straight up means what he is actually saying, rather than what people have been inferring. I know he's actively been working on this type of thing for ages. He's one of a handful of mush people I know that in these types of conversations, he does actually put his money where his mouth is and has the skills to pull it off. So.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
I also think one of the biggest hurdles to recruitment is awareness. We don't advertise in other communities -- when we do, there are results. People mostly just don't have any idea this format exists. Like, at all. Nobody does community outreach in general to just find new blood for the hobby. Even if they did, we no longer have a central place to point new people towards to learn, find games they'd like, and so on -- OGR and Electric Soup once upon a time served that purpose (IGU was more like MSB in that it was a discussion forum rather than a community resource), but when those died nothing rose to replace them (because it's a lot of work, even more so than running an actual like roleplay site).
When we lost Astra, Siobhan, Adumla (as much as I despised her, and that's probably not spelled right, but all I remember is the insult form of spelling her name and that's just not cool to use 20 years later), Saffron, and the others who REALLY pushed community outreach, nobody really picked up the slack. I see Evennia's developers and their community site are getting to that point and bringing in new folks, but I'm pretty sure that RIGHT NOW, that is the only forward-facing community project aside from a couple of specific games that go and reach out to specific audiences.
Way more than UI, types of games, etc -- people for the most part just have never even heard of these games.

RE: Alternative Formats to MU
I was super against both Evennia and Rhost (in different contexts) and the new and different things...and Potato too, really. And then I tried them. I am now a diehard fan of all 3. I will likely be as much of a fan of AresMUSH once I get my grubby paws on it, now that I have stopped being old and grumpy and afraid of change.

@bobotron said in PBs You Haven't Had a Chance to Use:
@lithium
I left out a portion of the sentence, I meant games with policies about reverse-searchable to NSFW stuff (I think the Shadowhunter game had a policy like that?).omgwtfbbq. what. seriously? There are games that have this type of policy? This is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard of as a game policy for a while.
