      @thatguythere I think the overwhelming popularity of programs like Slack and Discord kind of indicate that people generally like having channels be their own pages. At least it's not something I've ever seen someone complain about.

      to be fair I would not complain about them I would just turn them off rather than deal with clinking over to read them. Of course I also have no fear of missing things, if I do it happens if it is important I will be filled in later. though to be fair the only channels I have on tend to be the ones for specific sub-grouping my character is a part of, and public if it is quiet enough that I have never bothered to turn it off.

      I fail to see how those being split into two different windows would be better? All that does is make me flip between windows to see things.

      @faraday I could be wrong, but @ThatGuyThere might be saying PM notifications, pop-ups, and other flashes or distractions that draw attention from the text window may be too much of a distraction. I don't think he's implying a new system/platform will, but it has that potential and he's content with his current experience.

      You are wrong and not wrong I don't like notifications and other pop ups but I have trained myself to ignore them already. What I am saying is I like the command line client set up because it gives me control of my own presentation something that gets lost as more bells and whistles get added mostly with the reasoning that the bells and whistles will attract more people.

      My concern is that 90 percent of those graphical shells make the reading and writing of the text more of a pain than a simple command line. I am all for new players but not if the trade off for getting them is making my experience worse.

      Wait - are you trying to say that Discord or Slack with its different channels and PMs separated visually is worse of an interface than a MUSH window with everything all smushed together with a single typing window? If so then I must respectfully disagree.

      Yes I am I want everything together, and if I want to separate there are clients that let me decide how I want to separate. I would much rather have every thing in one place or with me having the ability to choose what goes where than to have it preset because the presets, if most of software I have ever used is a guide, not match what I would want out of them so finding anything because an un-fun game of where did they decide x should be.

      I would not consider it to be anime based because like you said it is based on fighting video games, however if someone said they wanted to avoid anime i would not recommend it to them because fighting games and some anime styles do share a lot of notes.

      Yup crazily enough MLS still exists, managed to prosper far more than I would have ever guessed. When it started over 20 years ago I doubted it would last 5.

      The real kicker is that stadiums depending on the size really don't do much to improve the local economy. Not sure of the size being discussed but when it comes to NFL sized venues they almost always cost more than they bring in for the city itself, and the area where businesses have significant benefits is only about a 3 to 4 block radius.

      Tenebrae would be my answer as well.
      My review basically concurs with Sunny's easy to find plots and be active, my biggest knock of it would be the lack of social RP not a lot of it going on that I noticed and since unlike a table top there were different people on each adventure, it all felt very disconnected to me so I drifted off. No actual complaints though.

      Big Van Vader a.k.a. Leon White passed away yesterday at the age of 63. One of the best big men ever, and by far the best monster heel.

      Well for a sound track there can only be one acceptable song for an 80s training montage:

      Not gonna lie, I picture almost any XP spend as having its very own cheesy 80s style montage sequence.

      Feng Shui first edition requires that the player describe the training montage he player goes through to certain new things.

    • RE: M&M 3E Discussion: Power Levels

      I would probably allow 8 to 10 for CG with a hard cap of 12 at least initially. If the player base gets good sized and wanted to grow characters more powerful I would consider revising upwards.
      As for as the cap go I wouldn't force a character to max out, for example I would approve the character that was offensive 9 and defensive 8 with PL 10 over all points but I would also point out that the system is designed with characters being at their power level caps in mind so while they are the same points as an average pl10 person they might under perform mechanically.
      I don't think you should force people to spend to the cap but you should definitely explain the downsides of not doing so, but leave the final choice up to the player.

      @auspice Pedant Face: Well yes, because 1 is a success and 5 is an exceptional, just 1-4 successes by the rules of the game are equal.

      ❤ dont hit me.

      Except in combat, or anything extended, or in activateing quite a few powers in each splat etc. I would be quite happy with 1-4 successes being the same if only the authors of the books actually stuck with it instead of having a lot of exceptions especially when some of those exceptions (combat and power activation) tend to be some of the more commonly rolled things.

      The way it tends to work on MUs however is 'Damnit i don't have 5's in every trait and 45 dice in this area and i wont get an average of 7 successes every time.. GOD I SUCK.

      While you are correct in theme and how the games are designed to work, if you are the 3 in each 6 pool competent doctor it gets old quick when you are regularly outperformed to the point where your competent doctor really only outperforms nameless NPCs.
      Not that I have done the doctor thing but I have played the 8 dice pool for thing and RPed being on the upper end of ability for thing as the book says I was, at least until thing was used in plot and pretty much everyone else had 12+ dice for it so to still claim to be good at thing it was pretty much min max or rewrite my character to be average. Regardless of how skilled you might be compared to the general world if 90 % of your interaction is with other PCs that becomes the real frame of reference.
      Note in this case I had XP sitting around so I just spent that rather than respecced but it is the same basic conundrum.

      @faraday
      I would be in favor of some compromise limitation like a year range, for example if someone uses 1995-2000 Bruce Willis then no else else can but if someone wants to get Moonlighting 80s Bruce on it is fair game.
      I mean looks for some people do change a lot, I would think it was ludicrous that someone would be told no on using On the Waterfront Marlon Brando because someone else was using Island of Dr. Moreau Brando because if you show me pictures of those two if I didn't already know they were the same person I would not believe it.

      @arkandel said in Respecs.:

      How do you feel about players using respecs to be more mechanically powerful in what they already specialize in?

      I would have no issue as long as it didn't fundamental change how the character has been seen on screen. Lets use your fencing example if the player shaved points like you said and took a point of academics and a point off drive and a point off investigation to make up the difference then no worries.
      If they decided they didn't want academic and dropped it from 3 to zero to make up the difference even though they had been playing their character as a well educated person I would have issues.
      To me the issue with respecs is a continuity one, changing numbers so a sword fighter becomes a better sword fighter doesn't bother me at all unless it in turn breaks something else when they drop other things to get the points.

      There's also a difference between "similar enough to confuse" and "identical".

      Given we are talking about actors for most played by, Bruce Willis in Blind Date and Bruce Willis in Diehard look far more similar than identical. And there are plenty of pictures of each that could be used for played bys.

      I never do it but i have no issues if other people decide to, though I do feel there should be some limits, for example if Jane Vampire has fortitude and has used it in multiple scenes already she should have to keep fortitude when the process is over even is she gained it at a different point in the mechanical process than she did originally with the respec.
