RE: Goetia: nWod 2nd Edition and Crossover - Seeking Staff
@The-Tree-of-Woe
You tell the player that is not how things work in this place, and if they cannot fit in then gently or not so gently show them the door.
While Gany and I disagree on many things one thing we fully agree on is that games should be dictatorships. If you have a stated policy and a player refused to comply I fail to see how PvP rp solves it better then actually sitting down the player and telling them what kind of game they are on.
Granted I am not associated with this game at all, but this sort of set up is pretty common in the the MU world though not so much in the WoD sections.
Now will the WoD player base accept an attempt at a different culture or will it all end in tears who knows but I do wish them the best of luck and always appreciate attempts at something a bit out of the ordinary. -
RE: Goetia: nWod 2nd Edition and Crossover - Seeking Staff
Asshattery can be punished socially, it happens all the time on games without PvP someone is a consistant asshat people stop rping with them, without PvP to force interaction they tend to get bored and leave, does it work all the time, no, but then nothing does.
Honestly my biggest issue is the supers being open but I know that is a personal preference one and nothing more. -
RE: Windy City MUX question.
From what I remember from Wora discussions it was unique to the game. Never played so no clue how it works but if i remember right Whirly was behind it so on that I would give it a thumbs up.

RE: Windows 8 & 10 - Thread Updated
I doubt i upgrade, I mainly use my home PC for websurfing and mushing and I can do those just fine with windows seven. If I gamed on PC i would likely go ahead with the upgrade while it is free but to now i see no reason to until i need a new machine.

RE: Return to last position box
I had the same problem as TNP and also only in Fallcoast.

RE: RL things I love
grins that reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.
From a sports Illustrated article in 1996
Ottawa a great place to live but you wouldn't want to visit there. -
RE: Geist Reconstruction
It night not happen I wouldn't know from werewolf 2e I have not played it anywhere. Werewolf Forsaken 1e defiantly had it in places where tribes where hierarchical. Also take traditions from old mage, most of them were rather loose confederations but in play most became rather hierarchical.
It might be bad design, but I am a player not a designer, so to be design principles matter less to me then what i have seen a majority of time in play.
Will all players do it, no. Will enough do it that i prefer the lack of organizations to adding some in, definitely. -
RE: Geist Reconstruction
If you create organizations for Geist they will become hierarchical. because sadly that is what player tend to do.

RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
@Alzie
Hate to break it to you but if someone has been gone and unplayed for seven months there death has the exact same impact as a nameless npc no matter how important they may have been.. My argument has always been less with the policy, hell if I ran a game their would be regular idle purges of anyone gone more then 3 months barring something like RL military deployment or something like that., but againt the waxing of the pcs if you want to do that do in universally as in weather the player says this is what my char does or not. At least then it is only lazy storytelling that is the issue, not the presence or appearance of ooc spite.
And no I do not think all death in storytelling is lazy but I have seen too many times storytellers acting like the mere presence of death make it someone compelling. -
RE: Risk
From what I have notices games with limits on risk tend to encourage players to let their characters face more dangerous and interesting situations then full non-consent.
Though this might be a self selection issue as people tend to gravitate like players and I know that without some sort of system to check risk that i pretty much limit myself to bar rp with those I do not already know ooc. -
RE: AD&D 2nd Ed
The 'fix' I always used for hit points was slightly different. Hit points stayed the same but instead of negative hit points they stopped at zero and any overflow was taken as damage to con. It worked fairly well. Normal healing spells would restore hit points and con was only healed though rest or the restoration spells. Since Clerics can't default to restorations just cure x wounds spells con damage it was usually not curable right away.
It works fairly well for the flavor of some wounds being minor and then others much more serious.
While this is similar to the hit point / vitality systems it also had the added effect of con damage making saves harder etc. -
RE: Fantasy MU*s?
There was a lot of drama. I played there for a while and while not involved first hand, it just started to sap the will of a lot of the players which characters in important positions and that trickled down until it slowly had people stop logging on. Fifth World opens and the numbers really fell, and eventually staff closed the doors. from what I saw it was not one big thing but more the death of a thousand cuts with smaller things. And well I do remember there being a big dust up between Custodius and some other folks. Sorry my memory is not good enough to give any juicy details.

RE: Fantasy MU*s?
Using the Fading Suns setting or a generic version of Lords and Ladies in space?
Cause I loves me some fading suns. -
RE: What do you look for in a game?
For me it is two things really, co-operative OOC atmosphere and availability of the spheres I feel like playing.
No place is perfect and while there are a lot of things that i would want that would make me like games more those are the two basic qualities a game needs to get me to play there. -
RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
No I would play on such a place because honestly I have no care for what happens to characters after I decide to leave them.
It is very possible to be against something that does not personally effect ones self. -
RE: Ghoulage on Kingsmouth
You may have been talking tempest but according to the forum you were actually replying to me.
In both of your examples Rebel Agent 57 and Mr Dalton's deaths have no point either, they could mean the same being nameless NPC A and Unnamed employee B. My argument is less that abandoned PC is sacrosanct, and more that killing them at best is utterly pointless hack writing in the attempt to make a plot important.
And yes you might not has malice but if you honestly believe is not not in most instances, well I can sell you a nice bridge in one of the outer Burroughs of New York on an easy installment plan.
