@Thenomain Dresden Files is what I am using for the base for a lot of things I am doing. It has a wide breadth of skills, wider than normal fate, and many of the abilities need only be tweaked a little thematically for what I am looking for. Like for example: Magic will be the lesser version rather than full blown wizardry like Harry and the White Council, still awesome, but not as overbearing.

So it's not a hard adjustment to make.

@WTFE So that they can gerrymander the counties and take control of everything without having the popular vote

      It's not a true democracy, it's technically a republic.

@Lain You are welcome to your opinion but you are taking into the accounts the actions of /People/ who have decided to interpret those rules in a way that is violent, aggressive, or judgemental.

That is the problem, as I see it.

It is also why I am decided anti-religion in general. At one time the tenet to not eat Pork, for example, was a life saving measure because of parasites and our lack of clean butchering. People who ate pork tended to get sick, some died, so it was a good idea to not eat pork at that time.

Today... it's an old rule that doesn't have much real impact on the health of the populace.

@Lain Except that any sort of 'ceremony' that is considered a 'rite of passage' or not, is just another way to try and enforce control over others.

Don't get me wrong, I believe that if the rules of /most/ religions were actually adhered to, the world would actually be a better place. It's just that throughout the millennia human nature has corrupted and twisted those rules to benefit a few over the masses.

Having a belief structure can be a very powerful thing, it can be a source of motivation, or support, or an impetus to change and better ones life or the lives of others.

For the most part however, it is used as a means to attack, segregate, and harm.

Just like Islam itself is a fairly peaceful religion, people, humans, we fuck everything up if we can profit from it.

@WildBaboons No. Humans invaded their territory, and they responded to the invasion in typical buglike fashion.

I don't know the second movie introduced quite a few other bad asses and really expanded the world to me.

@Arkandel Probably because The Matrix has the whole jesus complex thing, and 'The One' ruins the idea of the PC's being exceptional.

Not that there wasn't other exceptional characters, it's just all overshadowed by 'The One'.

That's not to say there aren't stories that could be told, but it all seems relatively pointless cuz the story of 'The One' is going to eventually make all other stories meaningless.

That said, I really did enjoy The Matrix MMO, bugs and all, the combat system was rather fresh.

@surreality said in Which canon property/setting would be good for a MU* ?:

@Lithium I second this, if it can have some grittier, dingier aspects as well -- like the hitman club in Deadpool. Because.

I don't see why it couldn't have grittier aspects, there was the whole group that was ran by Morpheus in the 2nd movie, that wasn't glamorous at all. Looked like it had room for all sorts of different types.

I think a John Wick game would be cool. Lots of different systems you can use, I just really love the world they have been building for it.

Went out to my car to go to work today. Apparently the neighbor (has one of those super lifted up trucks) backed into my car and fucked the hood up. Now the son of a bitch won't even answer the door. I am considering calling the cops and reporting a hit and run shortly.

@surreality said in Has anyone ever tried to resurrect a dead game with a group of dedicated players?:

There's also the possibility that if the staff haven't seen anything budge for ages -- and some places stay up for years after they've 'died' so this can be quite some time -- the people running the joint will not really be checking in to approve anyone in the first place, provide any needed assist, etc. and may actually resent people dredging it out of the mothballs because the time they once spent administrating the game has long since been dedicated to something new. It's a bit shitty, but it's a thing to bear in mind.

      ^^^ this.

This is the biggest hurdle to trying to revive a dead game. If the population is zero, aka no staff, no players, then staff are probably not even checking on it anymore. Which means even if you have 10 people. 20 people. If staff aren't there to check on it, you can't really get anything going because nobody will get approved etc.

@Tempest There will be magic, but it is elemental based, so you'll have to pick fireballs, or lightning bolts, not both.

I don't think I am going to scale it around big battles. I want the story to be more personalized, because while big battles on screen are cool, I think it's the focus on the individual that makes them powerful in story.

So if there is any large scale battles, it'd likely end up being... plot fu'd, as background, or setting, for the scene that's going on for the PC's.

Also: I have nothing against Faraday, but I dislike the system myself. It's just not my cuppa.

I am still kind of torn about this game. I kind of want to try it because Gany is just making me laugh about what is possible there, but I am still torn due to the lack of politics, and yet somehow it is still a L&L game... it confuzzles mah (admittedly not sober) brain.

      @Misadventure Nope!

There is going to be room for all sorts of play styles and stories. In the notes I've been throwing together for basic themes everything has some darkness to it. It is a brutal and bloody world, power gets you only so far because there are other powers.

Now as far as regular NPC's go, yeah, I expect a PC could be made to be strong in their chosen areas of strength and experience, but there's a /ton/ of different ways to build a completely valid and effective PC in FATE which is one of the reasons I like it.

My main thing is I want the game to have space for White Hats, Black Hats, and Wishy Washy shades of grey types.

There is going to be war, intrigue, dungeon crawling, bar fights, magic, monsters, & more as the players try to make sense of the new world.

I am borrowing one element from Earthdawn that I liked, isolated communities of survivors of a world shaking event, only a few large cities.

The main city is a place where four 'countries' that have risen up since the devastation meet, and it is neutral ground with 'peace' enforced by the Twisted Spire (Mages Consortium) essentially.

      @Tempest

Again: The only stunts that will be allowed at CharGen will be from the list of approved stunts. I intend to be pretty exhaustive as to what I will allow, so that balance is where I want it to be.

This isn't like a table-top Fate game where people can just invent stunts willy nilly 🙂 As the person coding it up and in control I have control over what is allowed and what is not.

Unlike some places, I have /zero/ problem telling people 'No.' 🙂
