2 1/2 hours of fanboy porn. I quite enjoyed it! Last Jedi made my back hurt, but this one I didn't notice how crazy long it was.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
Space Marine is on the humble bundle. Aside from the end fight, it was a crazy fun game and for 7.50 you can't really go wrong.

Solo was a bland forgettable movie as a Starwars film.
I had a sneaky suspicion last week when I read an article claiming everyone who saw it thought it was super duper awesome.
It looks entertaining, and I really love how the new EU feels like a table top RPG session, I'll probably really like it, despite it not being Shakespeare.

Creating a game history through PrPs
My D&D group is getting super flaky lately, so I'm in the starting stages of figuring out a West Marches style game to work with crazy schedule nightmares, and I wanted some input on an idea I had.
The idea is basically, not really having a setting background, or at least very bare bones background, and having important events being done collaboratively through player driven one off sidequests/PrPs, with the caveat that they write out what the history books have written down for that event so that others can know important bullet points.
Has anyone done this with their game? If so, did it work well, or did it turn into a Bill & Ted nightmare with players trying to seed magic items in caves just outside of town that they'd find with their main character?

playing an fps without voice chat is just frustrating in the entirety
Yeah, I play a lot of rising storm/red orchestra, you can really tell when an opposing team is using voice chat or not. Of course you'll get trolls out there being stupid, but some servers are good about banning them, and they're a joy to play on.
Once in a while, though, you'll just be on the same brainwave as the rest of your team, and very little gets said and you just pwn some n00bs. It feels like you're in the borg when that happens.

And all my neat pants will fit me again.
Or, your thighs will become muscular and no pants will ever fit properly again. But I suppose that's a good kind of problem to have. Shorts are where it's at anyways.

@*&^ plantar fasciitis.
Ug, it's the worst! I've only just gotten over mine after like 2 years. First it was tendonitis in both of my achilles, then, because I was walking funny for 3 months, I got PF.
Jogging. Never again.

RE: Influence/Reputation system?
In tabletop I use 'rep points' whenever players do something badass in front of NPCs. They can redeem rep points for favours at varying costs. If they get into the negatives, they're seen as a mooch/poseur.

RE: General Video Game Thread
This last week I've picked up the Prophesy of Pendor mod for Mount & Blade. It's good. So good that I swear I was just going to sit down and play a bit over my breakfast smoothie, and then all of a sudden it's three hours past dinner time and all I can hear is heroic music and people screaming, even after turning this game off. Good times, I think Caliph Hamid wants to marry me.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
I'm getting tired of our Office Martyr. Seriously, if they would stop complaining and do their work, they'd be done their work and would have time to complain about how they're out of things to do. This week, I heard them complete the 40 minute story about how over worked they are to every single person in the office who isn't a supervisor. That's 400 minutes(yes, I timed the speech, sue me) they could have spent doing their two hour task instead of complaining about it. Yes, I also know how to sort 40,000 items. You go to the data tab in excel and click sort, you're not moving mountains here. And stop 'working through lunches,' nobody is tricked by this except the new hire who thinks that's what we do. Ugh.

BS Pacifica managed a proper closer (I actually came back for the finale after taking a hiatus, and it was a great experience), but @faraday puts us all to shame, in a zillion ways.
I missed that last few months of Pacifica because work picked up and I didn't have time to log in anymore. It was a fun place.

RE: Cheap or Free Games!
I've been beta testing Rising Storm 2, and they seem to have the pings at a good level. I'm still craptastic at flying a helicopter, but it's fun. Also a new game debuting at $25 is pretty awesome when every other game seems to come out at $80 these days.

I still can't believe Jason Momoa is wasting his time with Aquaman when he was clearly born to play Lobo.

RE: Mush Campaigns
@faraday I've always felt that if you're involving dice, you're inviting exactly that. To me, half the fun of roleplaying games are when things go absolutely sideways because of a bizarre dice roll.
If a story is 90% set in stone regardless of the dice, then why have them at all? -
RE: Cheap or Free Games!
If anyone likes to use minis for tabletop Fat Dragon has a humble bundle going. I've used some of their designs before and they're easy to make and look really good.

RE: Good TV
For anyone still watching Startrek Discovery, Tig Notaro joined the crew and stole the show. I'm starting to look forward to this season, especially if they lay off the teen angst of Spock's family aspects.

RE: Feelings of not being wanted...
@surreality I've also had people do the opposite to me. They'll post a sprawling five paragraph pose with tonnes of irrelevant information, like twenty actions and background characters that I have no ties to, and little interest, asking a million different questions on a thousand different topics and then complain when I do my best to answer the first question and react to something with a genuine reaction, rather than a roller coaster of emotions and reactions to the plethora of things.
Like slow the fuck down.
