We have no "Mushlike" way to enable this, and no matter what you do, the pose will be removed from the action. I would be happy if combat scenes had no posing and allowed table-talk, aka OOC, for the interaction.

Honestly I would likely be happy with this. I am also happy with what I have seen done on a couple of occasions and that is do all the tolling first to determine who wins and to what degree and difficulty then posing out the whole thing.
But not every one in the medium is a table top gamer, so think round of mechanics round of pose is a good middle ground to have be the standard.

But imagine if you want the IC dramz, but your RP partner doesn't? Some people do RP for the wish fulfillment and there's nothing wrong with that. Your fun is your fun (unless it involves being a dick to someone else on an OOC level). A lot of the issues I've seen arise from IC relationships and TS are people not being on the same page.

An aversion to relationship drama is not always about wish fulfillment either, for me I RP to be able to do things more interesting then RL or to do things that are impossible. As a result I rarely do a lot of relationship RP but when I do I prefer it to be happy. There are two reasons for this, first it helps the basic story provides IC motivation by giving my char something worth fighting for to preserve and a reason to stick in the setting, a good relationship is a wonderful answer to the why wouldn't my char just move question. The second is well I have had plenty of failed relationships OOC none that were terribly dramatic but still failing at a relationship is still something I am pretty familiar with so isn't something I really feel the need to rp about.

Anything that means Barry Allen will be on my television three times is not good news.
Note from his appearance on Supergirl this Barry is roughly infinity times less annoying then other versions, but it is still Barry so I will only get to watch 3 parts of the crossover.

I love the idea of magnetic pieces on metal boards. As a person with a cat and living with allergies(to the evil tree not the cat.) I have seen the devastation an ill timed pet leap or sneeze can have on a set up game board.

I hate the posing in the declaration phase that some STs use. Where it becomes pose attempt, handle mechanics, pose result, move to next person. That just gets to be painfully slow. And I will be honest leads me to start mentally disconnecting to the scene.
I agree that handle mechanics for the round then pose the round is likely the best solution. It helps with pace of the scene and still lets you get creative with your poses.

Tonight is the draft lottery (and that pesky Raptors - Cavs game, natch).

Although I'm not a fan I'd love to see something statistically improbably happen... like, say, the Wolves getting another top pick. They already have a very high upside in the next couple of years but with another great young player on the roster... man.

From your lips to God's ears I hope. 🙂
I feel a bit bewildered saying this since it hasn't been true since the mid-aughts but this is actually an exciting time to be a Twolves fan.
<hugs his sweatshirt he got autographed by Pooh Richardson back in high school.>
Though I blame the1993 draft lottery for turning my into a cynic. Twolves had hte worst record so best chance at number one and Shaq or failing that getting number 2 and Zo. we ended up with number 3 (the lowest the rules at the time allowed.) and Christian Laettner.

A better way to phrase a core thematic element of Arx would be: "What would it be like if a high fantasy world became a low fantasy one, forgot it was one, then started to change back?"

From a taste perspective the heavily coded part does not appeal to me. But if that was a teaser line for a book or movie I would buy it in a second. Hope your game is a lot of fun and you and your players enjoy the telling of what promises to be an interesting story.

Since both versions of Ocean's 11 are basically all about the cast. I think an all female one could work but casting would have to be spot on, but that is true of the male cast ones as well.
In my case I loved the original Rat Pack version, did not care much for the modern one.

I would have played it the same as I would against a guy.
You are playing the game and trying to win and your actions would have been completely with in the rules of the game.
Unless you are teaching someone a sport I rarely see a valid reason for not playing to the best of abilities.
Don't go out of your way to inflict harm, but given what little I know about you from this board I don't see you going out of your way to inflict harm on anyone male or female.

Honestly creepy might be a slight overstatement. When I had a nametag job I did not like it but I felt it was more overly familiar then creepy.
I think the disconnect likely comes from the different positions, as a customer you interact with maybe a dozen or so cashiers etc, during a day of shopping. As the employee I would interact with around a hundred customers during the shift.

      @ThatOneDude

They make you wear a nametag because at some point someone presumably decided this was friendlier, same as they somehow decided calling customers by (first!) name made them feel valued. First-name exchanges between people who are essentially strangers always feel awkward and over-familiar to me and I avoid them as much as I can.

Oh, I hate being on a first name basis with employees. Maybe it's because I'm old and was raised when that was not the norm. In fact, it would have been considered disrespectful. Use my first name? No. You can call me Mister.

So much this. Granted I no longer work at a job with name tags, I refer to my boss as Mr he does the same with me, and clients I refer to as Mr or Ms or which ever title of address they tell me they prefer. The only one I address by first name is the one I went to college with and that is because I have known him personally (as opposed to professionally) for 20 years.

Why do you think they make you wear a name tag? Most people do it to be polite I've learned as apposed to saying "Hey cashier lady/guy"

"cashier, give me change for a 20 please"

"Tom, could you give me change for a 20 please"

They make workers wear name tags so complaints and compliments get credited/blamed to the right person.

    • RE: Meta vs PrP vs Planning vs Impromptu

I can honestly say the best answer is both. I do think there need to be some staff run meta-plot to keep the game together instead of becoming dozens of little sandboxes. However on any decently sized game that can't be the only plot, too few staffers and well they need to be able to have some plotty fun to so allow Players to run things in the gaps in the meta plot.
Ideally staff would set aside certain aspects for the meta plot and let the players have the rest to play with.
An off the cuff example, lets say you are running a Forsaken game, if you have a meta plot that is planned to use the Beshilu prominently make an announcement or +news file stating they are not for PrP use but let the player runner freely use all the various other antagonists.
Note my preferrred policy on PrPs is to have set policy in advance detailing what is and is not allowed then trusting the players to follow them rather then have individual plots approved.

      @Kestrel
Since this is your first MUSH I will do this as sort of a PSA, the big downside to the more OOCly open culture of a MUSH is that people will tend to know others from game to game and this can lead to grudges that get carried over as well. Like the example here where it seems some have from 5th world.
WoD and Superhero games definitely have some of this as well.
For the most part if you can keep your head down and let the drama flow around you you should be alright.

At least for the average customer, if you are in the store a lot and we have chatted some awesome call me by name, if you are some dude I have never seen before don't.

    • RE: What would a superhero game need to be/do to bring in a new player base?

I would be interested in seeing how well fate holds up in a superhero games. I do have the VC pdf but my only hands on Fate experience was in running a Star Wars table top with it. Which it worked very well for but that was an easy call since it was designed for pulp-y stuff which is one of the big inspirations for Star Wars.

    • RE: Alternate CoD/WoD Character Growth / XP Systems

I agree completely with @Lithium 's post above, also with the addendum of challenge the players where they are weak. Granted you need to know the characters before the plot to really be able to do this, but since I don't run random public things for me that part is a given. One of the plots where I got the most positive feedback from the players involved was one where I presented a bunch of non-investigative characters with a mystery.
Or on the other side one of my favorite plots I have played in recently forced my social focused character to step up and actually fight the bad guy rather then his preferred tactic of running away and finding friends to take care of any physical problem. It was one of the few times in recent memory that I can remember my adrenaline kicking in while mushing because there was the very real possibility that I would either lose the character.

The biggest issue I can think of with cliques is that it greats an OOC atmosphere of us versus them on both sides of the equation that can lead to drama or decline in rp available.
I was on a game where the sphere I was involved in basically formed into two cliques there was not real drama between the two of them both sides were open to RP with folks not in either and RPed some with each other even then some one asked a question pertaining to IC boundaries to territory, and boom that became a powder keg. the sphere immediately became an you are either with us or against us situation. I was hosed cause while I was ICly loyal to one side I mentioned OOCly the other had a point and tried to get some sort of compromise happening, so person "Not someone to RP with" by both sides. In the end both sides left turning the game into an empty wasteland.
Now that is admittedly a rather extreme example and while cliques/playgroups will form it is something i feel staff should be on the look out for to be ready to diffuse said drama before it hits a boiling point.
