Yes she quit the job poorly then and should be condemned for quitting in that manner but not for quitting in general.
The right to quit is a basic principle of free labor.

RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot
Shadowrun is like any other game it is what the people at the table make it.
I have run D+D campaigns with out a single dungeon crawl, in the Shadowrun table top I am currently in, we started out as basic runner though quickly left that behind to further our own IC goals and while we still take paying jobs we are ICly quite picky and spend almost as much time researching if we should take a job as we do doing the job. Oddly enough our must frequent employer is the DA, mostly in legal situations.
The plot we spent the most time on is one that no one paid our chars for but was personal to the PCs.
Of course I have the feeling I want something different out of a gaming book then Theno does. I am basically show me the world, show me the rules to interact with that world, get out of my way. I really don't care how the author intends me to play. -
RE: Looking for a NWoD Mage Game
Fallcoast is pretty much the only option for NWoD/CWoD anything but mortals, vampires, and werewolves. Only other game that offers Changeling, Mage, or Sin Eater is the invite only one.

RE: RL Anger
TNP and Warma pretty much said the same thoughts I had.
In reality if I am going to quit a job it is going to be early on, if you find yourself unable to stand a job while you are still in training it is better to get out rather then stay and be miserable.
As my late grandfather used to put it, "Life is too short to work at a job you hate." -

RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot
Best version of an SR decker pre 4th edition was having the character played remotely. I know that sounds weird but it was during my freshman year of college the GM had a friend form his hometown who went to a different school chat over IRC during our session and that was out decker contact slash PC. They would do the decker stuff on-line while the IC meat world stuff was played out with face to face rp. Neither ICly or OOCly did we ever meet the guy.

RE: Empire Bay (M&M 3E)
From just reading the book it does not look like a huge amount has changed but i have not actually played third ed yet.

RE: Shadowrun Denver & New Plot
Setting wise I definitely prefer the earlier editions of Shadowrun. But then It is for feel reasons.
I have played ever Edition of Shadow Run except 2, and 3 was my least favorite mechanically, that is the main reason I have never given Denver a real look over the years to be honest. -
RE: The Waiting Game
My view is if someone is gone long enough I have moved on I will move on however i see fit. If they return and decide not to like it I will let them be the one to involve staff, but then I also avoid staff like the plague besides the occasional plot scene and xp spend.

RE: The basketball thread
on a single elimination format for NBA playoffs ... God no. Fluke wins happen,do we really want an 8 seed to squeek into the playoffs and go on a win streak of 4 games to become a champion?
the second is a little better but I still prefer seven games. The NCAA way is great for creating dramatic moments like my podunk middle of nowhere uni getting the the sweet 16 when I was a junior and the whole city going crazy. And it works for a tournament of 64 teams where at least theoretically the players have classes to get back to as a higher priority, or for contact sports like foot ball where you really con only play once a week so any series would stretch things forever but I think a seven games series is how you assure the best team ends up the champion.
Conversely I would be fine with the European soccer route of just giving the title to the best regular season finisher, but that I think is a distant second to the current playoff format. -

You have a higher opinion of people the I do. I would bet dollars to donuts Bob would bitch just as much with what ever reason Jane came up with for her ICly moving on. Note not saying Bob is guaranteed to bitch but I doubt the IC reason Jane picks to leave matters in the equation.
Edit Also how do you enforce that. You as staff can say Jane can't leave Bob because he is absent, are you going to monitor her scenes on why she left Bob to make sure of that? If not it is the most pointless ruling ever, because unless it is enforced it carries no meaning. see Andrew Jackson and the Supreme Court. -
RE: The Waiting Game
@mietze
I totally agree with that, as my character moved on I would never speak for the other character ascribe to them motivations. I would says things like, we haven't talked lately, or I don't work with them any more, and not go deeper even to the point of dropping to OOC to say we need to drop the topic.
I feel I have a right to move on when a person has been gone for a while and will argue for that, however I never have a right to make decisions for another person character and would not do that. -
RE: The Waiting Game
@faraday
If the bone of contention is two weeks versus a month i am willing to give on that, to me the issue really is more the bamfing with no contact.
Also I wonder just how would staff enforce a relationship reverting back to what it was. It might sound alright on principle but how would it be enforced. Some relationships aren't changed, like brother if they come back that biological relationship between the characters would still exist but not all brothers are close. I know of one RL case where they have not spoken in three years. Or Best friends, my best friend from college lives about a mile from me but we have grown apart to the point we are at best acquaintances, we talk and are friendly but no where near what it once was.
All forcing a relationship back to status quo ante absente does is force the player that has moved on into scenes that move the issue to where they want it. -
RE: The Waiting Game
@faraday
You have a valid point in the IC reality of things. However we are in the OOC reality where if you are gone fore more then two weeks your are mostly likely gone forever, unless you notify people that is not the case.
I guess it comes down to which is the important part. I play mostly on WoD games where usually when people leave there is no post or even a mail it is just they are not there anymore. What I ma about to say might make me an asshole, but I am ok with that as I have always been partial to Dennis Leary, but if you disappear for more then two weeks when no word it becomes a choice between my continued ability to RP and you situation once you get back if you ever bother to. When I it comes to that choice I am going to make the one that lets me have fun on a game every time.
I am not saying you have to log on everyday or even at all, true story on a game right now, my char is engaged to a char that has not logged on in well over a month, because the player mailed me and said she wouldn't be around for a while and said she would let me know more as she knew more. I am fine with this, but disappear with no word, not expect me to be all well they might come back, when past experience says the odds are not in favor of that. -
RE: The basketball thread
Yeah Curry has just been unbelievable, I knew he was having the best shooting year I had seen that chart just really bring it home.
the thing that gets me is not just that he is hitting 3 pointers but that he is hissing the type of three pointers that with anyone else shooting would be no change long bombs and they go in regularly. -
RE: The Waiting Game
@Roz
Well OOC you can be gone and still have things happening as I said just talk with me beforehand or even drop a courtesy life sucks be back in a month mail and I will RP as if your char was around. And well if we are tying out a scene it happens on screen and we are doing thing OOC we are just typing that seems like a pretty big difference to me.
I am sorry if someone ditches for weeks with no word I won't go out of my way to make sure their precious IC situation hasn't changed. Yeah it sucks when rl keeps you from a game and yes I have had chars that had to deal with significant changes while they were gone. Being absent form a game is sometimes a chocie we all have to make I understand that, still if your life takes a bullet and you need to deal with it. Do it, but don;t expect me to not rp because you are gone and don't expect me to put a part of rp in stasis unless you let me know something is up. -
RE: The basketball thread
No one has really been small ball to the level of the Warriors though.
Even the Bulls who never were known for a center still used them effectively and had either Horace Grant or Dennis Rodman down in the paint and while Rodman was not all the big in size he played a very "Big man", and the Heat or recent vintage had Udonis Haslem who while not getting a lot of ink was a big factor in their championship wins, and well has having LeBron who like Magic and Oscar before him could legitimately play any position on the floor.
Every Other Championship team I can think of going back to the early 80s had a well known productive Big so I would say the Warriors are winning in a unique way.
Note I said Big not necessarily center. And I do consider Dirk and Tim bigs even if they are Bigs that can shoot. -
RE: The Waiting Game
@Roz
This bugs me. Unless you make arrangements with me before hand, if we are not RPing then your character is not seeing mine. I don't care what their previous relationship is. If it is not happening on screen our characters are not seeing each other.
Again if arrangements are made before hand i am cool with hey I ma not on but our characters still hare hanging out, or doing whatever. I am fine with that, but show up after a month and act like we have been hanging out whit no previous agreement don't expect much more then laughter followed by an Um no, as my response. -
RE: Halicron's Rules For Good RP (which be more like guidelines)
Not to mention on Board a lot of people read them with the /u to get all the unread at once so all of that would be like three screens worth all at once.

RE: The basketball thread
@Warma-Sheen
I think the biggest issue there is that they are winning with a different type of basketball then what usually wins championships. There has been other teams to build a roster in a similar manner and play a similar style but they for the most part did not have playoff success.
When you break new ground you always have to deal with some level of that ain't the way it's done pushback.
