I don't spawn. But then again i tend to have channels off most of the time unless I am on them to ask something specific or to seek rp then once that is taken I jump back off them.
Pages can get annoying at times in rp but I have found most folks are cool about not paging with chatter if you politely say you are in RP and will talk with them later.
Now if I was staffing somewhere i would definitely have them as you are frequently juggling three things at once and are less able to just forget channels exist.

RE: FS3 3rd Edition Feedback
I know the topic has shifted, but I like the exponential xp cost thing because it encourages me to round out my character as they gain experience.
I know in the flat cost systems I simply don't at least not beyond what the game runner or staff forces me to. If brawl five cost the same as drive one why would anyone ever buy drive one I guarantee that you will use brawl 5 more often. Trust me I have written background for modern games where the player was from a major city with extensive public transportation just so I did not have to buy drive one. -
RE: 7th Sea Second Edition
I just want someone to make a 7th Sea game so I can play my thinly veiled Scarlet Pimpernel rip off.

RE: How would you run a large scene?
Part of it is also a cultural thing. While the limited experience I have had with FS3 combat has been mostly positive, i would not want automated combat in a WoD game.
The thing with published systems is that they are designed to work with a human moderator in place, take that out of the equation, or lessen they role they have and things tend to break down. -

@ZombieGenesis
How different is the quickstarter stuff from the old version? -
RE: Best-In-Genre MU*?
Honestly I know this will likely get me flamed but I am digging Fallcoast. Changeling sphere is active with periodic plots both player and staff run. RP is easy to find and for the most part the people are cool.
As far as drama I have not really been involved in any though I tend to have good dumb luck in avoiding that directly. -
RE: PVP Focused Mu's
@Alzie
Fair point RfK handled it amazingly well. though it should be noted at least while I was there there were a descent amount of NPCs around, true they were being phased out, but I think their presence might have had a lot to do with setting the tone at the beginning where limits lie.
So maybe NPCs initially then after you have the culture you want in place phasing them out could be a helpful tool. -
RE: PVP Focused Mu's
I think one of the big reasons they are so rare is that even more the n on a regular game staff gets stuck playing referee.
I might be a cynical bastard but I have seen CvC turn into PvP in a significant number of cases. Not to mention all the normal are they being favored drama with staff alts turned to 11.
Now I would love for a few games like this, for the very selfish reason it would siphon off some of the PvP focused folks from non PvP focused games, but given the shear number of folks that say they one this and the lack of any games really providing it. I have to think there is a reason for this market imbalance. -
RE: Dom/Sub imbalance on MUSHes
I can understand Lithium complaint, but it is one that cannot really be solved. People will always RP things they know little about and do things badly.
I played a mechanic character for years and at times I am sure a real mechanic would grins and the babble my character came up with while talking about cars, I know the basics but was quickly out of my depth if the other person in the scene keep the topic there for long.
I know anything sexual will get more charged then that but it is the same principle. Another example I am a Catholic RL, and i cringe every time I see a PC nun or priest, most are played as cliches though some players have done it in a well balanced manor. I don't think these chars should be banned by any stretch of the imagination but I also know I am not the only one that cringes.
Maybe I am being too charitable in my reading of Lithium's post to be me for the most part, hyperbole aside, she seems to be saying I hate when people do this cause they suck at it. -
RE: FS3 3rd Edition Feedback
The changes look interesting.
While I have not played much on games using it I have always liked the system itself. If fact I was even tempted to use it for a table top I was contemplated but never got around to running that one. -
RE: How did you discover text-based gaming?
When I was a freshman in college i joined on on campus gaming club and a few of the members MUSHed on DarkMetal, they talked about it a lot and I thought it was interesting. then earlier in Spring semester there was a big snow storm and since classes were cancelled and I had nothing really to do I made a character.

RE: RL Anger
The OSR is one of those things that baffles me. For the most part I did not like the original D+D or really AD+D all that much, and have zero desire to go back to those days. Granted I do still love the first games I played (the TSR Marvel Superheros followed shortly by MERP) so my nostalgia might just be flavored different.
I remember trying D+D for the first time. I am thinking it was the red box basic set days and remember thinking it was profoundly limited compared to the MERP we had been playing. If someone I knew ran an OSR style game and invited me to it I would definitely decline. -
RE: Pay to Play MUSHing?
I have to agree with Roz, you are who you are, online does not make you a different person it just removes filters.
For example I am argumentative and stubborn, I an not less argumentative and stubborn in RL when my boss tells me to do something I think is wrong but I go and do it without complaint. This does not make me unstubborn it just makes me smart enough to know when following my nature would be detrimental. -

Wow Custodious is the biggest shitdick I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with online. That really puts your defense of other folks in other threads into perspective. -
RE: Glitch
@Wolfs
Aww why not. I admit i am a little curious. Not saying i would check it out right away but during a slow rp night... well that is how I found WORA in the first place. -
RE: Super Hero System?
I have poked a little at G-Core, did not buy it byut looks at the preview stuff and it looked very TSR Marvel.
If you like the FASERIP marvel check out Four Color as well sicne it is pretty much a direct port with the marvel stuff filed off. Also Check out the classic marvel forever website. Don't have the addy handy at the moment but it has a couple of fan made versions of the system that stay pretty true to the original. -
RE: Super Hero System?
I really liked tri-stat for BESM games. But I have to second Misadventure I did not really like it for superhero. Same system I know but for me it just didn't fit superhero style.
I would be alright with any of the suggestions in the original post though I have not read Supers.
I would recommend against all things Savage Worlds but that is the one system I refuse to touch, even with table top. It is too clunky to be rules light and no were near in depth enough to engage on a game level so just feels in the way. I have a RL friend that loves it and has decided to only run it, so I have used it a few times but dropped out of that group since I could not stand the system. -
RE: Are there any historically-themed WoD mu*?
@Lithium
Throw in a stalemate in the civil war and you pretty much have Deadlands. -
RE: Are there any historically-themed WoD mu*?
Also the lack of proportional response on a mush. While I would be up in most cases for my chars to be in a bat fight win or lose with the loser only being beaten up. Quite often even the most minor of conflicts becomes everyone pulling out the biggest guns they have and then staff being called, a super long time stop and then then almost inevitable retcon. None of these drawbacks gets changed by differing perspectives held by IC law enforcement either PC or NPC.

RE: Making an Isolated Theme Work
@Coin
I have different tolerance for different things. I will put up with staff corruption and blatant favoritism with only bitching about it in a place like this fairly well.
I will put up with out of theme stuff with out a care if the surrounding rp is good.
Like i said it is a taste thing. I do not like comedy where the characters are winking and nudging to the "camera" for example that is why I don't read and will not be seeing Deadpool. I have no problem with mostly irreverent comedy a la the Hawkeye comics.
If I am in my opening scene and see a wink wink nudge nudge moment as a new player I would have to assume that would be the general norm for rp and there for the rp would not be to my taste.
PHBs are avoidable, favoritism short of outright cheating can be tolerated, RP i don't enjoy defeats the whole purpose of the thing.
