@Admiral I enjoyed the first season, but yeah, it definitely had the checkboxes feel to it. Likely because it's so rare to have so many different characters. I hope this soon becomes more common so that it doesn't feel so jarring.

You're not missing much. The only film I've seen in 3-D that impressed was Avatar. You know, the only movie deeply designed to be seen in 3-D.
The Green Hornet in 3d was pretty good, too. They only had a few spots where it was actually 3d, but the effect was so cartoony, I loved it.
Most other 3d movies aren't worth the bother.

Is replacing white actors with white actors whitewashing now?
Whitescrubbing?

@Cupcake Yeah, I'm having lots of fun on Faraday's lately.

So, what I'm gathering from this, is I have to wait to get married before I open my scifi mush?

@surreality Last year, I noticed they did have sorting bins for that kind of thing. LIke electronics/furniture/clothing. I don't know if it went to goodwill or what but they're starting to make a bit of an effort it looks like. Yay trying to get green certified!

But it doesn't take a lot of time to go to a pawn shop, does it?
If you own a car it likely doesn't. Kids that live on campus probably don't want to take 3 trips on the bus carting TVs and furniture across town on public transit.

RE: RL things I love
@Ganymede Yeah, back when I was renting, I could fit everything I owned other than my bed in a hatchback. There's something to be said for living light.

But then why wouldn't they go to like, the nearest pawn or resell shop and just get some quick cash themselves? That seems ridiculous to just leave it!
For international students, there is a serious time crunch once they are done finals. Many don't have visas that will span the summer, so they have to gtfo asap if they're not taking classes. Once finals are over, they have so much stuff to take care of that soaking the loss on a few pieces of furniture isn't a big deal.
Even local students are coming to the end of their leases and are scrambling to move. If they live out of town, then losing the money spent on this sort of stuff is still cheaper than uhauling it across the country and putting it in storage while they look for a new place to live.
Plus it takes a lot of time to sell/give away on the second hand market. trying to get rid of a TV through Kijiji is a pain in the ass! and you won't get nearly what it's worth.

RE: RL things I love
@Meg Yeah, especially if you find the dorms area, the international students aren't going to be shipping any of that junk home.

@Auspice If there's a university in town, go through after finals when all the kids are moving out. free computer gear as far as the eye can see! Last time I did the tour I got a free stereo, desk, tv, and some spiffy shoes. There were a bunch of computers, too, but I didn't want even more clutter around the house.

@Arkandel Some of the snapshots on r/battlestations make me really want 3 monitors. Playing a game that's built for that sort of thing would be wicked fun.

People cancelling D&D to do stupid yardwork they could do any night of the week. FFS taking a 3 day weekend to do six hours of work. UGH!

RE: Identifying Major Issues
Even in my table top game there's only one player of the seven that I run a game for that is consistently interested in following up with RP hooks, the rest just kind of stare blankly until another encounter happens. Or they make combat monsters that are incapable of finding clues, which is equally frustrating.
Things have gone a lot more smoothly when I just railroad them to whatever. I've even started making CHOO-ChOO noises when I do it. I've come to the conclusion that most people just want to hang out, have a few laughs, and roll dice a few times a month. Gone are the jr high/highschool days where you could play every day after school and put together intricate plots.

Mount & Blade is free today at gog.com
It is awesomely fun, and has some of the best voice acting in the industry.

Had one of my snipers miss a 96% shot last time I rolled up a game. Haunts my goddamn dreams.
I'm becoming of the mind that that's a glitch the programmers left in because they thought it was hilarious, like the Gandhi nuke thing in Civ. It's probably only a 69% chance.

RE: Good TV
@Three-Eyed-Crow It just feels like there's some executive producer somewhere purposefully making bad decisions because their kid likes Star Wars and not Star Trek.

Star Trek: Discovery,
I'm so worried about this show. I was super excited until I heard it was pre-Kirk, then I was only like, okay, breathe, it's not going to be terrible, quantum leap guy isn't in it.. Then I saw the preview, please don't those be the klingons, please don't let those be the klingons..
