@Arkandel
In a large scene I definitely do change my posing style. I normally put out a solid paragraph though once a scene has more then four people (that is what I tend to consider large) I tend to cut that in half, in a large scene my poses become very descriptive with almost no embellishments, " X does this while says this" just the facts ma'am sort of thing, because good lord to big scenes start to drag so I do what i can to keep them moving.

This reminds me. How do you feel about revealing things about the character through narration and not in any visible ways? For example: "Bob sits down and grows silent. Ever since he returned from the war he's been reserved in social settings with people he doesn't know well. He lifts his glass and...".
I am absolutely in favor of this sort of thing. Mainly because human communication is mostly non-verbal on a much we are forced to just use verbal because all we have as tools are words. If someone is really good at posing body language this can lesson the issue but body language is not constant across cultures so things that would absolutely be understood ICly get lost OOCly.
So while I will not have my PC be able to figure out details, if playing someone who has normal observational skills and raised in the same culture as the posing PC, I do use those asides to give my PC an idea of the other PCs emotions. -
RE: How important are rooms poll
I voted the medium grid with easily created temp rooms.
Although I am in accordance with the rest of the voices here. I think a grid is absolutely critical both in providing the setting and in setting the tone. Think of going to a stage production, yes you can absolutely put on a play with out sets, I have seen some excellent productions done that way but for the most parts sets improve the experience.
Temp rooms are also essential in my opinion, both because no matter how large the grid you will not be able to cover every scene location, and two it lessens the need for on -grid housing. My characters rarely have many scenes in their living places, however there are many times when there is info to be shared that public locations do not work well both for IC and sometimes OOC reasons, if temp rooms are not available I will get a place either apartment or small build to have that option with temp rooms that save me and build staff the effort. -

For instance my character got a cool secret and then was shared a neat also top-secret @clue; I thought I'd be able to milk both for some roleplay... until I went out there and tried to discuss them both. Four out of four PCs he went to confide in and involve in them already knew everything about them, plus some. So what I thought was important going to prove to be great leverage to get roleplay out of forming alliances were proven to be duds.
I think this problem would creep up on any game where info was important. People in general have very poor information discipline and PC in RPGs tend to be far worse then the average person.

@Ganymede We can trade covers when I have some more time (and am home for easier access).
I love love LOVE punk rock covers of pop/oldies. So you KNOW that Me First and the Gimme Gimmes are basically my idols.
Given that statement I am sure you have already listened to it but for everyone else out there. Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies did an album of all country covers called Love Their Country. As someone who grew up rural and therefore listening to country and is a big punk fan it is one of my favorite CDs ever.

@Roz I probably run in different mu subcultures, because I've rarely heard of PvP causing drama.
What?
That was my first response, too.
My first response was a giggle then thinking well he has never WoDed.
To the topic at hand I think a lot of it is based on expectations, as someone who played a secondary hero in most of my superhero mushing I have learned to tend to avoid PC villains because 9 times out of 10 they would ask for RP. I'd say sure, they would be like cool so here's my idea on how my PC beat up yours, so that when Star Hero PC takes me down it is more dramatic. While I admit that is a common (read very over used) comic trope it is not one that makes for run RP on my end.
I have no problem losing the first encounter but there has to be a plan for me to get some IC get back or it is a non-starter, especially since virtually every Comic based game is consent based. -

Do you have to pay extra on a war game to be a Lieutenant instead of a Ensign just because there are fewer of them, even though being a Lieutenant doesn't really come with any inherent advantages? What's the point?
I agree with your general point but wouldn't a higher rank in a military setting be an inherent advantage? After all the high ranks can order the lower ranks around, that is one of the basic tenets of military discipline.

RE: Fires of Hope: A Star Wars Story
I still think the best way to deal with Jedi is to allow them but make it cost something.
I don't think Saga really works well for SW so not commenting on it specifically since my experience is limited to two table top campaigns, but D6 also had issue in this regard though in the AD+D mage sort of way, at Cgen level Jedi were gimped compared to everyone else then as xp rose they dominated.
I think the key would be to find a way in the system to make it cost enough to deter the players with out costing so much it causes them to be avoided completely, because it is Starwars you needs the light sabers even if i would never play a Force using character they need to be around. -

Hey now if that is a shot at my typing, guilty as charged. If it was a political shot you are woefully misinformed of my beliefs.Also I have zero family friended on FB. I take the real meaning of the word and only am FB friends with people I am RL friends with, so much less spam.
Edit to correct: I am only FB friends with people I was RL friends with when I friended them; there are college people on there i haven't seen in a decade.

Update: she thought Jump Around was by Cypress Hill.
OK that is just bizarrely unacceptable. I don't listen to rap but just basic being alive and noticing of the world around you should be able to tell the difference between House of Pain and Cypress Hill.

RE: General Video Game Thread
My favorite mech was always the 3055 (I think) version of the Phoenix Hawk, granted heat was a royal pain in the ass but you never had to worry about ammo cause everything was lasers, which tended to matter a lot because in our games we tended to do a lot of extended missions away from supply. My second favorite the Firestarter just for the sheer non-much vehicle killing ability. Since its main weapon added to heat and the way the rules dealt with excess heat for vehicles you had a 50/50 shot of popping any non-mech with each shot. I will never forget the joy of my 20 ton light mech scratching out an 80 ton tank in the opening round of combat.
Topic Note: I got about half way through writing that before realizing this was the video game thread and I was babbling about the table top mini version. I let my BattleTech enthusiasm get away from me. Sorry.

My interruptions have always been more ... severe.
People come in, and have a gun fight. Never try to engage the players there. Just interrupt.
People come in, loudly have a scene where they paint the entire setting up as they like, then leave.
Why these people even bothered to come to a place where others were is beyond me.
So much this. the main reason I will try to steer any RP away from public places on any game, dealt with this too many times not worth the effort of dealing with again.

RE: SW: Rifts
Only Rifts game I know of is the one using Fate.
And while I am not a savage Worlds fan in general I will say their Rifts take both in setting alterations and on the mechanical side was very well done. -

Six is my favorite as well of the FF. Though in my case I think most of the credit for that goes to Kefka being my favorite villain of the series.

@Ganymede I am a recovering Catholic. (The rest of the family still is.)
You would think this would give me some immunity, but as we both surely know, it works in reverse: being Catholic (even if not presently) is more like a force multiplier.
I think it depends on the person on the receiving in. For me it has given the immunity, but then again I am from the Irish Catholic branch so the guilt force was more of an overt blunt force, where as most of the other branches use more subtle guilt I have noticed so that might prevent the developing of immunity. Kind of like the frog and boiling water things heat it up too fact it jumps out, slow enough you have frog stew.

RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
That makes sense. I think I would look at it much like you mentioned above, if someone is wearing an object that is homespun dress A and they some it was a similar homespun dress B for variety sake that shouldn't be an issue. Though I would see it as problematic if they were wearing homespun dress A and posed wearing super awesome glamorous gown.
-
RE: Coming Soon: Arx, After the Reckoning
@Arkandel
I have never played a game with coded clothing objects so cannot speak to that specific culture, but I would see posing clothes I did not have objects for in a game where such things existed to be roughly equivalent to posing abilities I didn't have on games with +sheets. -
RE: Star Wars: Insurgency
@ixokai
Have you looked at Diaspora? It is Fate and while it is more traditional Sci Fi compared to the Space Opera of Starwars it could be well worth it to look at how they handle ships, as well as being a good read in general. It also has a chapter on social political conflicts which might be useful for things like the Rebels and the Empire trying to influence the populace of Corelia.
